Film School Rejects: X-Men Origins Wolverine: Solving the Deadpool Mystery

  • renac · 8 months ago
I do see all of that very likely, but I would like to see the movie basically end with weapon xi getting his arms cut off, being burned by the reactor, etc, then cut to typical end of movie stuff, then credits, THEN, after the credits, show the birth of deadpool, as his healing factor kicks in, and he looks at the camera and says something to the extent of "I'd better get a spinoff for this." (breaking of the 4th wall would just feel weird in the movie itself, but would still feel very deadpool to do)
  • David G · 8 months ago
isnt that was Robert just said? Except for that last part. I dunno...
  • Sam_isusingan_ · 8 months ago
Ok, Robert, let us hope that we're both wrong, that ToplessRobot is wrong, and that they are just rying to fuck with us. Because let's be honest here, this is the only way any of us will keep our sanity in the next coming year.

Yes the evidence from the toys points to that being deadpool, and we both know it's unlikely that they're wrong on so many occasions. Yes we're probably fucked. But let's look at the other side. Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool? Come on, that's the perfect storm other than these shit fucking picture bullshit toy god damn it, Gambit's messed up etc etc.

Let's stop trying to figure out what's going on, and absorb that child like innocence and see some form of this movie and go from there. If it's not Deadpool, then we're ok. if it is deadpool, we know the names of the writer, and we can "firebomb" their houses.
  • fanboy_d · 8 months ago
i think you're wrong. i think 'deadpool' is just the designated codename of a weapon in the weapon x program and wade wilson takes it on when his predecessor goes south. but it's all speculation anyhoo!
  • huffmaster · 8 months ago
Here's my problem with this scenario: Why have 2 actors portray the same character? What is the point in having Scott Adkins come in to play this role if they could have just dressed up Ryan Reynolds in make up to do it? The common sense studio thinking I have about is "isn't it cheaper to pay one actor than to pay two" while my inner dork sees this as do-able. While I came to similar conclusions when I did my own research upon seeing that bald bastard in the latest trailer I still had my hopes up for a twist I could not foresee.
  • David G · 8 months ago
I do hope youre right Mr Fure. That ending would at least make some sense of Deadpool becoming the merc we grew up reading about. Hopefully they keep Reynolds for a spinoff. Fingers crossed.

I'm so confused right now. WTF?!!

The address above contains a different image of a Deadpool action figure for X-Men Origins:Wolverine.
  • RobertFure · 8 months ago
That toy is labeled "Comic Series."
  • RobertFure · 8 months ago
One thing that is possible is that we're just catching the editors sleeping and nailing these screenshots. We have no idea what the scenes will actually look like, but every view we've had of "Deadpool's" face has been in the middle of an action sequence so we're just catching Adkins doing some of his impressive stunt work.
  • huffmaster · 8 months ago
I'm not basing my questions off what we've seen though. If you check out IMDB for the flick you see Ryan Reynolds down for Deadpool and then Scott Adkins down for Weapon XI. I'm just questioning why not if they were going to have Deadpool "mutate" into this Weapon XI character not just use Ryan Reynolds for that as opposed to getting a completely different actor. I'm not saying it's not possible, just wondering the thought process behind doing that is all.

And of course this is still just all speculation at this point. The new trailer makes me feel a little better about the flick cause I wasn't sure about it when I kept reading rumors about Fox execs coming onto the set and meddling with things. I'm a little peeved about seeing Cyclops though. We already have so many mutants in this flick why involve ANY of the X-Men? Oh well, the countdown is on for me.
  • mSeliga · 8 months ago
Im a bit shaky on my Deadpool history, so excuse my ignorance.
So Wade Wilson(Reynolds) becomes Deadpool(Adkins). Or is the other way around? The whole thing about him "dying" at the reactor is that he is shown as Deadpool what looks like a half way point in the movie.
  • RobertFure · 8 months ago
Wade Wilson (Reynolds) is part of the Weapon X program. In comic terms, he is experimented on, but his healing factor doesn't work correct. He volunteered for the program because he had a terminal case of cancer. They basically throw him away and try to kill him, eventually his healing factor kicks in overdrive, which keeps his cancer at bay and allows him regeneration powers that are at the same level, or perhaps better than, Wolverines at times.

In the movie, we don't know what exactly happens, but what I speculate is above. If this article is correct, Scott Adkins is basically a stunt double for Reynolds and not a separate character.
  • RobertFure · 8 months ago
Yeah, the thing with IMDb is sometimes its wrong. But who knows this time. I suspect no one will know for sure until late April when the movie starts being screened for critics/test audiences. We'll be embargoed til May 1st though, I'm sure, but spy reports will probably start generating.
  • Sam_isusingan_ · 8 months ago
Ok, so ToplessRobot has some more info (again)

    http://www.toplessrobot.com/2009/03/the_deadpool_...

Uh, big ass Spoiler Warning. More speculation but this time there's a "guy" on the inside, trying to clear up the mess. I don't know. Anyway, you were warned:

"• Ryan Reynolds shows up for 10 minutes in the beginning of the film. He's part of Stryker's team, and his mutant ability is mostly being a badass with swords, cutting bullets and the like. He is called Wade Wilson during this period.
    • Stryker's big plan (or one of 'em) is to make Weapon XI, a mutant with a shit-ton of mutant powers.
    • Stryker uses Wilson's body as the mutant power receptacle, and because of the scarring (I'm not sure whether that's from a previous fight, or as a result of all the mutant powers getting packed into him), Weapon XI is played by Scott Adkins. Weapon XI appears for about ten minutes near the film's end, and has the claws seen above (a la Wolverine), Cyclops' optic blast, Wraith's teleportation ability, and Wolverine's healing factor, too. Also, his mouth is indeed sewn shut.
    • Just like Weapon X is given the name "Wolverine," Weapon XI is given the name "Deadpool.""
  • RobertFure · 8 months ago
That pretty much matches what we expected, though if the "10 minutes at the beggining" part is really all Reynolds does, then we've seen basically everything of him. There was a scene of him and Sabretooth in a helicopter flying somewhere, then the battle footage. Maybe that doesn't include the reshoots.

    We'll see.
  • Sam_isusingan_ · 8 months ago
Hopefully that "10 minutes" is more of a "he's in the movie for the first 1/4, then disappears due to the accident(s), and then is back for the last 1/4", and isn't just Reynolds showing up, cracking 5 lines and then leaving.

    /Golf Clap

Way to muddle up a long running franchise and confuse/piss off a lot of die hard fans Hollywood. Like the government I never trust Hollywood until I see the finished product and then I am still sceptical.
  • HappyPalooza · 8 months ago
I fucking love Deadpool and I think the idea of him ultimately becoming the main antagonist is great. I wish Marvel was handling this instead of Fox for improved results, but if that info's true it may not be so bad. I hope Reynolds does well.
  • Nevernude · 8 months ago
ah.....okay this all makes sense. There's still some confusion in my mind over why Scott Adkins will be enlisted to play pre-Weapon XI Deadpool, when ryan reynolds (who looks pretty buff) could just as well played the part....perhaps something to do with stunts etc..
I can see where this is going. Im not against this movie in anyway and i hope Fox at least market this well enough to garner big bucks and more attention for wolvie (yes, i hate Fox too, but hey..they have the movie rights). I like the idea of deadpool becoming deadpool post credits and breaking the fourth wall.
  • RobertFure · 8 months ago
The thing about Scott Adkins is he can do a lot of stunts naturally that most people need wires to do. So maybe it was cost effective to hire a human rather than a rigging team to fly Reynolds through the air. Because of all this Deadpool stuff I found a few Adkins reels on YouTube and stuff, and this guy can do some insane things, like spin in the air three times and then kick head height at two different targets before landing. Completely insane.
  • Matt · 8 months ago
Im still f-in pissed that they f*cked with Deadpool. Why cant we have the loud merc with the mouth right from the get go instead of waiting for some spin-off. You want villain? Geez Sabertooth isnt good enough? It Wolverines origin! What other villain would you have other than Sabertooth. Then they 'team-up'? Are people really content by this news or is anybody still just as pissed cause I know damn well I am.
  • Nevernude · 8 months ago
Get over it. Whether you are pissed off or not, the movie has been made. Nothing you can do to change anything. frigging fanboys!
  • Liz · 8 months ago
...Am I the only one who thinks Deadpool's scars look like the injection point markings they drew on Wolverine when he undergoes the adamantium procedure?
  • A.B. D'Vinci · 8 months ago
I strongly believe that this arm-blade equiped, scarred character is Wolverines son, Daken. Ok hear me out; if you go to your local comic shop and purchase Wolverine Origins 31, 32 and especially 33 it explains. His son was constructed to specifically destroy the original weapon x (wolverine)....hence HIS code name weapon XI. Also the illustrations of Daken are extremely simular to the still shots of this unknown character in the film....long claws, scarred, and tattooed from chest to face. Remember the titile is infact Wolverine "Origins" which means it is more than likely gonna trace back further than the fans expect. Mark My Words. One Love.
  • Karnagess · 8 months ago
daken has 3 claws on each hand like wolverine, and there bone
  • RobertFure · 8 months ago
Totally looks like that, probably is. Maybe he has an adamantium skeleton too - at the very least he underwent some serious procedures in the tank.
  • Will Wadeson · 8 months ago
Looks like Fox has totally Galuctused Deadpool
  • Adam · 8 months ago
you guys obviously dont know deadpool if you look at the toy the deadpool one has blades taped to his arm and red markings...weapon XI which isnt draken!!!!....cause he has laser vision!!! has a blade coming out his arms and black markings....deadpool has probly seen weapon XI and thought he was kool and made himself look like him....hes probs just shaved his head ....hes not scarred up yet!!!!!!! x
  • Dickens_Cider · 8 months ago
In the comics there is no actual character known as Weapon XI (Weapon X for those who don't know is Wolverine). As for this character (the following information may contain spoilers) , apparently the makers of the movie took creative licenses with Deadpool/Wade Wilson's character where seems that Wade Wilson (played by Ryan Reynolds) is the merc with a mouth but he's presented with no actual scars or the Deadpool replica costume known in the comics. During the movie Wade Wilson will undergo some changes in a procedure by William Stryker turning him to a silent killing machine implanting blades in his forearms, giving him laser blazing eyes from Cyclops, the teleportation power of Wraith and of course he would have the healing factor of wolverine/Sabretooth. That's when you witness his form being scared and disfigured being the character Weapon XI (played by Scott Adkins). It was revealed in a thread form Scott Adkins' fansite that he will have the last fight against Wolverine in the movie and that's what we caught a glimpse off in the official trailer where we witness Weapon XI doing a flying spinning kick in the face of Wolverine with blades appearing out from his forearms. According to some inside leaking news, Weapon XI will ruin a huge part of the building or settlement where the last fight happens and so he will suffer severe damage and trauma that his own healing factor can't withstand hence his body will reject all of the implanted mutant parts and he'll be the good O disfigured Deadpool we all know from the comics. A note is that Weapon XI has his mouth sewn and that obviously is because Wade Wilson is the kinda guy who won't ever shut up! So Stryker sew his mouth in the process of the procedure. The markings on Weapon XI's body are the same markings that Wolverine had when they implanted his body with Adamantium and basically the markings will be clear on Weapon XI's body in the fight because Stryker was surprised by Wolverine breaking into the place searching for Sabretooth so he orders to wrap up the procedure as fast as possible.

The first video is where he says it.

It still seems as though they're messing up Deadpool. Maybe it is because Fox is making this movie but I'm sure I will like this movie. Oh well who knows.
  • juxdapose · 8 months ago
i am a fanboy so my judgment is bias i suppose, but this is bullshit, im tired of hollywood fucking with good charactors the movies called x men origins...so get the fucking origins right! once again bull shit

  • Feadpool · 8 months ago
Bah, they do what they do. Still, I wonder...

Let's posit that the info "leaked" on DP is a bit...erroneous?

What if, after Weapon XI goes down, Wilson takes on the Deadpool name for himself? It'd be funny and ironic, considering the comics constantly have us asking whether or not DP is "the real Wade Wilson."

I mean, either way we're pretty sure A Deadpool will still be around, because they're already contemplating spin-offs (at least according to Wiki). Even if they do something bizarre this time, maybe they can get it "right" next time...if there is a next time.

Frankly, I just hope this film goes well. X-3 was terrible.
  • Christopher · 7 months ago
Hey I just saw the leaked workprint version of X-Men Origins and the prediction was...somewhat right. Deadpool and Wade Wilson are the same person, just portrayed by different actors. They Wade becomes Deadpool is never explained, if fact, we, as the audience are lead to believe the Wade is dead (and he might actually be). The only way we are to know the Weapon XI is Deadpool is Logans response "Waid is that you" and the joke "So Stryker finally found a way to shut you up". So yeah it looks like he was experimented on. In fact there are two clues that Weapon XI is Deadpool: One is that when you first see Ryan Reynolds he explains to Sabertooth how his swords are his favorite weapons, then you next see the Kitana's coming out of his arms. And finally Stryker comments that "If it weren't for that mouth Wade, you'd be the perfect soldier", which would explain the covered up mouth and why he chose Wade.
  • Corny · 7 months ago
I just saw the movie... Deadpool is weapon XI he has his mouth sewn shut. blades grafted into his arms. HAS Scott summers eyes! he also has John Wraith teleportation. It's a load of shit. They have destroyed another character and its lore. Insulting all the loyal fans.
When baking a cake don't Fuck with the mix!
You would think that seeing these characters have been around for so long that People can quote by heart all of their history, skills, Talents and powers. That the producers would stop and think "You know what, lets stick to the comics and not make a shit movie".

    Other movies of shame:
Spider-man 3 (Emo Parker... really? So much more could have been done with Venom, say a movie of his own)
Xmen 3 (Juggernaut ain't a mutant, he is so much bigger than Vinnie Jones)
Fantastic Four 1& 2 (Ah.. Ehem... The thing is a hell of a lot taller than the Torch)
  • joe_average · 7 months ago
just seen the reprint...all i can say is that the powers that be completely destroyed Deadpool...it's not even funny anymore...it's so disrespectful to the fans. Why sacrifice a well loved character like Deadpool for a crap storyline?!

the only thing that could save this is if when they did the reshoots, etc. and fixed the mistakes.
  • JJA · 7 months ago
Ryan Reynalds is Deadpool. The other guy might be another lesser weapon x experiment. Or he may be a new one. The origional four were Deadpool, Wolverine, Sabertooth, and Silver Fox. Several others have been said to have been made during this time as well, (i.e. Mastadon).
  • Deadpool_fan · 7 months ago
it pisses me of that producers and shit keep messing with the story line of comics in there movies. i wish they would just keep it the same. i want to see the true story of deadpool in a movie, not what some hollywood dick head thinks would be cool. i want to see how deadpool is basically in prison and is called deadpool because he runs it. i want to see that his regenerateing powers come from him being tortured. i dont want no "radiation burned" deadpool. i think before people in hollywood make a comic-based movie, they should have to sit down and read how the shit works. if anyone agrees with me email me at speedyg106@hotmail.com
  • Adam · 6 months ago
Quick comment, did anybody know that deadpool was originally kind of stolen from a DC character Deathstroke (villain), I still like Deadpool though cuz its the semi-sort of good version, just Marvel stylie.
  • Brett · 7 months ago
    hi all
    i don't want to get anybodies hopes up with this but;
after reading up on deadpool (alot) there is a weapon with these powers but looks different .
look up Garrison Kane who describes himself as weapon X in the Deadpool graphic novel "the circle chase" i also heard that at some point Deadpool was mistaken for this weapon..so..fingers crossed, the real deadpool is still out there and that the bald guy from the trailer is a modified Garrison Kane, (who in the comic had one eye glowing red which could explain the cyclops power)
well any true deadpool fans get out and read the the circle chase if you have not already and lets just hope that this is the case.

I liked the movie but had a huge empty feeling at the end and t i love deadpool but they messed him up.Ryan Reynolds dose kinda fit the part I'm a fan of his.The next x-men movie is x-man first class if I'm right and there's going to be a deadpool spin-off but I'm not sure if it's his origins since the wolverine movie messed that up so it might continue from the trailer tease
