Boiling Point: Twilight
I'm not sure if the same could said for Trekkers, but hey, we Twilighters have been around for a much shorter period of time. ;D
Great article, I'm so glad that you all have gotten with the program on this Twilight thing...us Twilight Moms thank you for all you've put out in your short time of knowing...and yes we will make this movie a hit.;)
If you really want to get a bunch of comments on your articles offer some premier tickets to us...we'd be beating down your door!
Keep em coming...we love it!!!
To echo Annie, Twilighters FTW! Nothing is quite as terrifying as a bunch of crazed women, hehe.
Long live TM's
swiss
not only do you have young lithe tweens and teens you also have experienced hard core
women like us Twilight Moms up against that lot, and I guarantee you we'd have the
advantage. Glad to see another convert. Welcome to the dark side my friend. Though it
isn't all THAT dark, besides Edward's brooding.
movie. It's all so great. Thanks for all the coverage so far and we ALL look forward to more!
Oh, and Twilighters would so kick Trekkies to the curb!
read it and convert them over to our side.
(but those Trekkies better not look at us funny.... :)
Twilight fan I can tell you we pretty much have a obsessive compulsive disorder with the
books and anything related to it. Besides twilight keeps getting new fans almost everyday
where as Star Trek is older and had time to grow it's fan base. As for Twilight not being
big...I've had my doubts about that at first but then I get that silly notion out of my head
and realize that its TWILIGHT and we as fans will not let it go down without a fight =].
enough said.
Love Twilight saga so much, can't wait for the movie!
I've been to a book-signing......I've seen the mobs.......it's CRAZY!
Twilighters would win, I think!
Even if they've been around much longer than us, Trekkers have no chance... they would
never win. Not even in their sweetest dreams. I'm sure Twilighters are a lot more
dedicated than Trekkers. We're tottaly kick ass... and the good thing is that Trekkers
don't even have brooms. LOL
It's Twilight love. It's an addiction. A great one. Everyone who already read the books are
obsessed with them. With vampires. Werewolves. Blood. Love. You know, things like that.
No one can escape- no one want to. Resuming, Twilight is LOVE. So lets make Love... not
Star Trek.
It's all I have to say.
As for the VS well Twilighters would definitely try to convert the Trekkies but they would totally whoop them down if need be! :)
Seriously though, the more exposure the better. We all love to see characters we enjoy from books come to life, but even more so it is amazing to be involved in something so great with so many people worldwide.
Thanks again for an article on Twilight!
So, if the fandoms faught, who would win...Trekkers, I think, but only because they have hyper-speed capabilities...
All that being said, I would like to state that I am a Twilighter, and my significant other is a Trekker...And, while he is a foot taller than me, and a few years older, I think I could take him.
Seriously, though, this movie is going to rock. I think the fanbase will ensure that its huge. And that we have three other movies to go see. I know I wont be disappointed.
think it will be necessary. All we would have to do is make them read the first book
(because after that you're toast! Goner! Done for!) and then show them pictures of the
Cullen boys! (Jacob too, he is mighty nice looking also)
Twilighters would beat out trekkies because I feel we are so much more dedicated to the series. It is much more to being a twilighter than having extensive trivia knowledge and action figures (no offense to any trekkies but I've never understood the fandom there...it's just not my thing.)
This movie is going to rock, I am sooo excited!
And Twilighters would totally beat the Trekkies, because we'd have them addicted to the books in no time.
Twilighters!
Anyway...
It makes me laugh about how many people are unaware of Twilight.
Soon, that will change.
;)
I love being a Twilighter.
that even compared to a Twilighter in the slightest. NEVER(and I've never even heard of Serenity :P). The level of love for these books and characters surpasses any other book and
it's fans ever and even if this movie was crappy (which it won't be) it WOULD be a success
simply because of the fact that all the fans in the world would flood the theaters to get a
glimpse, and being as we Twilighters are, we would go see a crappy twilight movie twice to
support our favorite author ;).
And there is no question about who would win, a Twilighter would. Hands down.
Twilighters would definitely win over the Trekkies without a doubt. Sure, Trekkies have phasers and aliens, but we have gorgeous vampires and hot werewolves. I see the scales tipping in our favour already.
= ]
Twilight! I would have thought that was obvious.
I personally cannot believe how so many people CANNOT know about these books, we have over 30 websites deticated to our obsessivness, as well as a movie! C'mon! I love these books. They are passonate and sensual without being smutty, sweet, and yet there is always a sense of lingering danger surrounding the main character. I love it. read them Please.
Twilight wins.
Anyway, when you take into consideration that there are eight movies, five series, and coutless books about Star Trek, you have to give the winning status to Trek. The current fan base for Trek is just that much more prolific. But when you look at future potential, Twilight certainly is the winner. This fandom has no where to go but up! And with a new book and movie heading out this year, as well as a major Twilight presence at Comic-Con, I think a few die hard Trekkies are going to be the first in line for the Twilight movie. I'm not too sure if we can say the same in reverse - that some young Twilight fans will be lining up to see the next Trek film - regardless if Skylar from Heroes is playing Spock!
And hey - we post all of your updates at the Twilight Lexicon. I know just about all the other major sites in the fandom link to you, too. If you think 120 comments is a big deal, I think you should get ready for much more! These fans are DESPERATE to talk about their love and devotion to these books.
leech or a werewolf a dog.
BUT by nature we are romantics not fighters, so all you trekkers bring on the inter-galactic love and lets party! Just kidding, but trekkers should check out Meyers new sorta sci-fi release "THE HOST" and we might all find common ground.
Maybe one day there will be a Twilight experience and we can all eat at the Bloated Toad....just an idea.
Actually I like Star Trek, and Star Wars too. Like some others have said, we'd probably just party. XD
but i love twilight more
yay twilight. cant wait for the movie.
have yall seen the prmo pic its orgasmic
ARE YOU KIDDING!?!? There would be no compitition! The Twilighters are all so dedicated to Edward, Bella and the books that I personally know people who have tatooed "Twilight", Twilight pictures and favorite Twilight passages to thier bodies! These books are written from Bella's perspective and she is totally obsessed with Edward, so of course all the fans that read them (epspecially the girls) are going to be equally as obsessive! My boyfriend's father is a rabid Trekker and I know he would never get a Battlestar tatoo...We are HARD CORE Baby ;)
Thanks for this article and this fun comparisson, but I'm sorry :) Twilighters win.
don’t even have brooms. LOL" That is awesome, AWESOME! I just laughed for like 20 minutes! Yeah those old guys could never face this many Squeeling Girls :)
but yeah, us twilighters are passionate and ruthless and love this book more than anything. we're always updated on *ANY* news and most of us know eachother through the website IMDB.
so yeah, us rabid, ruthless, passionate (i like my adjectives) Twilighters can beat ANY fandom.
And thanks for the article! LOVE it!
I'll be checking back to make sure you read the book. And a hint for you: If you tell us Twilighters you plan on reading it, you better make good on your promise. Hehehe go to Twilightguy.com and read the TwilightGuys Report; you'll see what i'm talking about.
Thanks Twilight Lexicon for the link here!!
Twilighters are so hard core, it's not even funny.
But the hard core isn't even bordering obsession [except amongst a select few...],
it's really because everyone is so passionate about the book.
I remember picking up Twilight back when Stephenie didn't know what she
was putting up there and had time to reply to individual emails.
In two weeks, she could no longer reply personally.
The fanbase had grown exponentially.
Yes, it's crazy.
In addition, it's not just a bunch of screaming girls declaring their love for the book,
but a community through which people actually make bonds/friendships.
I don't know what else to say that will convince you one way or the other...
but there's no doubt that the Twilighters would take the Trekkers DOWN.
Have you ever seen a more passionate fanbase? Ever?
We'll make sure that Twilight the Movie will be a success - even if we have to see it 10 times each (which some of us are already planning regardless of the box-office numbers)
So, again. Twilighters. All the way.
PSHHH TREKKIES WATCH OUT
No offense to Trekkers, though, but the Twilighter fanbase seems on the whole much more literate and...well, educated. I think it's because the Twilight series is in book form, not TV form; with TV, you can get all sorts of weird fans, because TV is all the rage and doesn't necessarily require one's brain to exert itself. However, with a book, you sort of weed out the (I can't find a polite way to say it) more common folk who just see it for the story. Because they are becoming more and more un-mainstream, books (with the exception of Harry Potter) have more of a chance to strike home with only the more imaginative people, who can get the feel as well as the story, and heartily appreciate a good one when it comes up. So I guess that means Twilighters, because they've got a higher percentage of non-idiots in their population :) (Although the Trek fandom is bigger.)
And, yeah, you'll probably end up on our side, 'cause these books are addicting. Even to guys, which to be honest, surprises me, because they are somewhat girly in nature, since they're written from the first-person perspective of a girl.
But we're obsessed. Really. Everyday (and I KNOW I can't be the only one) I visit: The Twilight Lexicon for updates (alright, alright - more like every five minutes - my refresh button sure gets a workout...), that new GROUP SHOT WITH THE CULLENS AND BELLA (because it makes me drool) the fanfiction.net archive of Twilight fics, and the ramblingsandthoughts archive for their stories, as well as this friggin' PENDRAGON forum for the sole reason they have ONE thread on Twilight in their General Comments Section.
Muahahaha...
once we finished converting them all into Twilighters. Everything I've seen of the movie so
far makes me want to see it even more, and I'm exposing everyone I know to the wondrousness that is Twilight. With all of the excited Twilighters out there telling everyone
they see about the books and how awesome the movie looks, I think that the actors
involved are going to be getting massive boosts in their popularity and careers. Hopefully
they have seat-belts because once this movie hits the theaters things could get really crazy
for them.
Yeah, just seemed a *bit* like an omen to me.
I don't know if you can compare Twilighters with Trekkies. We haven't had any conventions for Twilight... YET.
twilighters would win:) 10000%
I actually first heard of Kristen Stewart when she was in The Messengers, so she wasn't totally off the radar. Now (I hope), thanks to Twilight, she'll be in the center of the radar since she is a great actress. I saw Into The Wild, which isn't great, but Kristen made watching it worth while. Partly because I just wanted to watch her to see her acting, but also because she's amazing at it! Much better than I thought she was, anyway.
Twilight is MUCH more important and interesting than Miley Cyrus.
Trekkers have their conventions and costumes, but Twilight has their websites.
When you go on google and type in Star Trek you get 38,400,000 hits. When you type in "Twilight, Stephenie Meyer" you get 2,140,000 hits. Obviously, Star Trek is bigger. But who would win? A Trekie or a Twihard? As much as I would love to just say the Twihard, I don't know. Trekies do have their Klingon greeting.
That being said, there are those who are getting gold, red or black contacts to wear to the movie/book launch and a growing trend to identify yourself to fellow twilighters by wearing a red ribbon or writing the twlight hour on your palm. ( I personally have a red ribbon around my wrist which is becomming increasingly more faded)
Like the trekkies we have our own catchphrases ( " It'd be like getting a papercut in front of a room full of Hungry Vampires" "They've got brooms!")
And our own fan wear! ( twilight teez!)
We expand more than just one group of society. People who read twilight are from all over the world ( I personally am from Perth, Western Australia) are all ages ( 12- 74!) Ad whilst we are mainly of the female gender, more and more guys are becomming curious and admitting they have read twilight! ( twilightguy! GOOO KALEB!)
This comment has gone on long enough, but thanks for writing such a nice article, free from common twilight myths, and for spelling everything right. ( msn called Stephenie Meyer Stephenie Miller.) You rock!
And read the book and become a twilighter/twi-hard!
Twilight the movie is going to rock so much XD
Twilighters FOR THE (SNORT) WINNNN!!!
And yes, Twilighters win. I've never even heard of calling those fans "trekkers"! haha
personally though, i'm what you call a vampirate ninja who sympathizes for werewolves.
because i love vampires, ninjas, pirates, and werewolves.
and i just so happen to have OCD.
"Obsessive Cullen Disorder"
we should call ourselves the OCD-ers.
because it is SO true.
especially for those as obsessed as me; who do nothing in math except talk to her best friend about twilight...and randomly squeals about it in class.
Also, Trekkers have phasers. As awesome as vampires are, phasers can disentigrate anything. Trust me, we'll lose.
Twilighters. Enough said.
And that brings up a good point: 50-70 years from now, will people be reprinting the Twilight books? How about 100, or 200? The scary thing is, I don't know, although I love these books to death and consider them on a par with those of Jane Austen, and worthy of someday being reprinted with footnotes so that people in the future can understand the dialogue of our days. My Twilight books are actually part of a small collection of books that I have that I have vowed to myself that I'll keep forever and ever, so that I can be absolutely sure that my grandchildren will be able to get ahold of a copy, to read and enjoy as I have.
Well, for all we know, parasitic creatures WILL take over our bodies and take over our concious minds, and then it won't really matter ;)
and twilight is such an addicting and heart filled book with so much depth that its fans will fight harder to win if this is a competition. so twilighters would win for bella and edward the cullens halesblacks and swans !
Good more people are recognizing the buzz.
We want news please.
Yes, I think that the Twilight saga will one day be seen as a classic, much like The Narnia Chrronicles and Lord of the Rings. I just want to point out again that my big fear with Twilight is that the saga is self-limiting. Please tell me I'm wrong, but 4 or 5 books and that's it. Finito. The Star Trek on the other hand, is a self-sustaining organism, taking whatever form it needs from many sources, constantly adapting. I have no idea how many authors have contributed, and continue to contribute to, Star Trek. Will Twilight soon come to an end when Stephenie goes on to pursue other interests, leaving us a great big gaping hole in our chests? We agonize over the long waits between her books; what happens when we finally come to that point when nothing else follows?
It doesn't have to be that soon. I can see many other possible stories; the Story of Carlisle, intertwined with the Volturi, would fill many volumes by itself. A fleshing out of the Quillaeute legends, with a new cast of characters, would be great too. Alice's life would make an interesting read. Jasper and the Vampire Wars would be really fascinating to learn more about.
But is Stephanie Meyer herself interested in keeping Twilight alive? Have fans gotten together to address that issue, if they say that they would outdo Trekkers any day in their passion and zeal and kick their butts? For sure, Star Trek will always be around. What of the Twilight saga, ten years from now? Will they just be a pile of books waiting to be discovered in a library shelf by a future ten year old? Will they just be listed as one of Stephenie's "earlier works" as she made a name for herself as a noted romance/sci-fi author?
We can always make jokes about Trekkers and their "phasers set on stun", but the true test is Time.
my mom is a trekkie (she loves star trek).
but ima twilighter.
vampires own.
they will kick those space dudes butts.
who cares about vulcan's anyways
besides the fact that they have cool ears?
THEY DONT SPARKLE LIKE VAMPIRES DO.
and they have green blood.
ew.
yeah...vampires are just better.
so im betting on twilighters.
I am happy to say that I was wrong.
(Shrug) I'll be watching the movie first before starting on Twilight (It'll be more enriching that way. No preconceptions). However this weekend, I went down to Borders and skimmed through Twilight.
My first impression...Good. Very good. Stephanie Mays has a real feel for dialogue. I felt a real connection for Edward and Bella. I could really sense the caring and the love connection they felt for one another.
The plot (if opposed to Harry Potter) isn't a very complicated one. And Stephanie's concept of vampires isn't too revolutionary (liked the Sunlight effect though). However, Twilight really drew me in. I am a pretty finicky reader myself, and Twilight impressed me a lot.
I'll be looking forward to the movie. Kristin certainly matches what I thought Bella should be (Attractive but no Helen of Troy beauty).
P.S- I have one question though. I found it a little odd that Edward and the Cullen still have to go to school. I mean...they're over a 100 years old. I understand they need to blend in. But repeating High School in every town? A little odd isn't it?
Loved the book though. Best wishes to the movie, Twilightfans! Thanks!
