Film School Rejects: Will Smith Says Hello To ‘Hancock’ Sequel, Son Jaden Says Goodbye To ‘Karate Kid’ Crane Kick

  • Joshi · 11 months ago
I really didn't think it was possible to lower my expectation of this movie unless they announced they were bringing Pat Morita back using the wonders of CGI. Despite what anyone thinks about the original Karate Kid, the crane scene is the one scene that's amazing to watch over and over again.

I don't want a remake, but if they do make it, the crane scene is a must.

First 3/4 of Hancock was okay, but that last quarter with the BS about superspouse lost it for me. Let me guess there is a superkid in the world they both forgot they had or maybe they arent the last ones and the others are EVIL! Give me a call Will and I can type out a swell sequel in a weekend or less (I swear it will be at least as good as this film). Anyhow, what about this "wants his Daniel to kick ass with moves taken from video games" crap? Does he want his Daniel to end his fight with a "Haruken" or "Sonic Boom" or maybe with a fatality!

where they really brother and sister?
i thought they were past lovers?

guess the movie sucked at explaining that too.

I'll be honest I don't think anything is a must in a remake. I mean this will be a very different film (probably a bit shit) But I'd rather they went in a WHOLE new direction rather than shot for shot retread. I mean I already HAVE the karate kid and need not see the same film done again.

See what I said to Joshi above.

That's a good point, but one would expect the crane kick, even if only as an homage.

I just finished watching Hancock and I enjoyed it, I didn't think there was anything wrong with the last 1/4 at all. And I'm pretty sure the brother/sister thing was her lying to him, later in the movie she says they are married.

Now the movie wasn't the best I've ever seen but I thought it was a decent superhero movie, I enjoyed it just as much as The Incredible Hulk or even Iron Man. I would enjoy a sequel as well.

as long as they dont get rid of the cool shower holloween costume.

Also a good point. I think I'm more incensed about Jaden wanting computer game moves in the film but... I don't know. As much as you're making sense, I'm still rather annoyed that it won't be in there. I dislike the idea of a Karate Kid remake, I dislike even more, the Idea of Jaden Smith taking the title role and I know a straight remake would probably be worse than if they took it in a new direction so really, it should make no difference, but for some reason this annoys me still.

That said, it also compels me to dig out my Karate Kid DVD and watch that again, mainly just so I can watch the crane thing again... or perhaps I should just go lie down and cool off...

Well homages can be good when done right a la the Cape Fear remake or Snyder's Dawn but when bad it can be cheesy like The Italian Job or Halloween. Considering I have low hopes for this a sub standard crane kick would make me cringe.

Will Smith sucks. I just saw The Day The Earth Stood Still and it was okay until Will Smith's dumb kid popped his annoying head up every five minutes. I'm assuming that "Will-you please go away already-Smith" must have invested a large sum of money into production of the film to get his no talent kid into the script. BORING!!! Retire already, Mr. Smith.

The only thing fascinating about Will Smith is that he keeps getting work and isn't stocking at a grocery store for 6.00 an hour.

you write "I’m not sure how that fits with Hancock and his sister being the only remaining two of their kind"

WHO or WHO shaid they are borther and sister?
She said that to avoid him, but after she admit they were husband and wife!

Please, watch the movie, and/or use subtitles if you miss important plot scenes

They made as a pair, to be together, God I hate to read mistakes like that!

Sequel or Not, ok or not, I will watch since I liked a lot this movie.
