Film School Rejects: Weekend Discussion: Will Heath Ledger Win an Oscar?

  • Phoghat · 1 year ago
    He'll Win!!!
  • Nevernude · 1 year ago
He will win it. No question about that.
Additionally, on Roger Ebert's website, there is an interesting article on an exchange between Mr Ebert and a man who, correctly predicts who will win an Oscar. Heath is a lock to win it. The more pressing question, for me, is whether The Dark Knight will win Best Picture. There will be severe competition from the likes of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire(an amazing film)....expect the unexpected.

yes, he should definitely win it. I haven't seen a better performance this year and haven't read about a more acclaimed one.
  • KingSigy · 1 year ago
I've seen a better one. Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder. Enough said.

I feel it's one of those situations now, that if Ledger doesn't win, people from all over will truly be upset. So it makes me wonder if the Academy will kinda be pushed to vote for him just to make people happy. Would the chances of Leger winning the Oscar be the same if he were still alive?
  • AndyT · 1 year ago
The Academy does like the sentimental choice, which makes you think that might happen...but I'm not sure how many of them have, or will see this movie. Remember, the average age of the Academy voter is not anywhere near 27...more like product of 27 and another number. I would also guess there are still some 'prestige pictures' still in the hopper through the end of the year that would challenge this. You know, something with somebody English in a frilly shirt.

Me personally...I have not seen anything more impressive this year. It's a really damn shame that Heath Ledger has passed away and Rob Schneider is leaving snail trails around my town right now filming a 'Girls Gone Wild' spoof 'movie'.

Not enough said. Give some reasons. I'm not saying I think your an idiot just that if you think so that strongly give some quantification.
  • Davebaxter1989 · 1 year ago
I can absolutely guarantee that the majority of the academy WILL have seen The Dark Knight. Whether they'll have all seen all the nominees for best foreign language though. . .

I feel like his performance was truly great, but personally, I'd prefer to see who else was in the running first before making my mind up. Heaths performance was certainly unforgettable, but that's not to say it was the best.

Heath was great, and his win could usher in a new generation of film goers to their award show
  • D Train · 1 year ago
That picture of him is brilliant. He's removing a sad clown mask to reveal a much more sad, tragic clown. Brilliant, I say.

I too am wondering of Dark Knight will get a best picture nod. It certainly will be a dark horse nomination.

If the Oscars want to be popular and relevant than Heath Ledger should win. If they want to go soley on performance, Heath Ledger should win.
  • Cole_Abaius · 1 year ago
It's going to come down to whether someone else has as strong a performance, and so far there hasn't been competition this year. Still, we'll have to wait through the last Oscar Bait movies to see.

Maybe Mary Kate can accept on his behalf.

Heath deserves the award, dead or alive.

I think Heath Ledger has a great shot at Best Supporting Actor, but I'm not convinced The Dark Knight has any chance of winning Best Picture. As much as I loved that film (and it was a lot), the Academy doesn't seem too keen on genre pics. I think it'll get a nomination out of critical acclaim and box office draw (the only reason, I'm convinced, that Titanic won so many awards) I think they won't think it film snobbish enough - Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient, etc.

Plus, The Wrestler is the best film of 2008 :)

Ok if he doesn't win theres something truely wrong in this world. I've never seen a role played better then the joker
  • Wade · 1 year ago
In my opinon the nominees will be: Josh Brolin for Milk, Phillip Seymour Hoffman for Doubt, Heath Ledger for Dark Knight, Michael Sheen for Frost Nixon, and Robert Downey Jr. for Tropic Thunder. and out of the bunch id go for Ledger.
  • Steven C. · 1 year ago
I would be shocked if Heath doesn't win.
  • nonsourdmuet · 1 year ago
will heath ledger be in the next batman movie

im pas aussi sourd-muet que j'ai laissé dessus

What movie that came out this year was better than the Dark Knight? Honestly, I'm trying to think of one and I can't. If anyone can tell me one great, otherwise, I don't think there was one. It would be a crime if Ledger doesn't get the Oscar.

    (My prediction)
Yeah he's gonna totally get nominated and win an Oscar.

Because he gets nominated the Oscars are going to see there biggest ratings in 30 years..................

Your going to see this happen as Heath wins The Peoples Choice, The Critics Choice, as well as The Golden Globe.....
  • djjeffhall · 1 year ago
I want him to win. I expect him to win, but I won't be surprised if he doesn't win. Not to knock Ledgers performance, but the Acadamy is going to look at this as a comic-book movie and I don't think they will be able to get past that inherent bias. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.
  • Gramscist · 11 months ago
I would have actually relented that a good competition would be his time as Tony Stark, if you are really pushing for Downey to get into here.
  • Gramscist · 11 months ago
He might make it as a CGI mashup if they really want to establish continuity with him as the Joker, which won't do him justice. I mean, he is dead alright.
  • Luke · 11 months ago
Robert Jr u have to be joking. Ledger delivered one of the best performances in cinema history period. Robert isnt in the same league with tropic thunder...i cant even beleive that comment was made
  • Aaron · 10 months ago
Another reason that Heath will win the Oscar is because he's making a pretty convincing sweep of the awards season when it comes to Best Supporting Actor awards (ie. with critics societies from different states).
  • Brittany · 10 months ago
He was already nominated for a golden globe, but i bet he WILL get the oscar nomination. It's so predictable too, I mean I can't imagine him not winning. And seriously, I can't think of any other performance that shocked me so much that I kept going back to the theater to see it just because of the Joker! And now that I have the movie I watch it non stop. Lol. I'm sure Heath will get the oscar, and if he does win it would be cute if Michelle Williams and Matilda accept it for him; but I'm positive it will be his family. Rip Heath, I miss you SO Much.

Hes the bet performer i ever seen i bet anything that he will win.
