Film School Rejects: WB Fitting Ryan Gosling for The Green Lantern’s Ring?

  • goldwriting · 1 year ago
If they really have to make a movie for Green Lantern, I could think of much worse people to wear it. Ryan has proved numerous times he has the ability to completely sink into a role, so his name on the contract makes me a little less annoyed.

I love how when comic movies were just getting made they were just casting people who kind of looked the part but the Studios knew would draw money even if they were a really bad actor (ref. Jim Carey pre-Spotless mind, Arnuhld, etc.) Now studios are actually casting based on acting ability first and look/draw power second, it shows that they're starting to respect the medium a bit now.

I think there are a lot of worse choices out there...Gosling wouldn't be bad. He seems like a good actor from what I've heard, so we'll see. I agree that he's a lot better of a choice than Boreanaz, at least.

Gosling could work as a GL but my question is which one? If he's going for the part of Kyle Ryner then hell yea he'd fit like a glove, but if its for Hal Jordan then I'd say he looks to young (still might be able to pull it off tho)

But Ed Norton and Robert Downey Jr. are the first people I thought of for those respective roles.

No!! Am I the only person who thinks he looks absolutely nothing like Hal Jordan? I agree that he has acting skills, but as far as build, style, and looks... no, just no.

green lamtern is suppose to be black

Casting seems okay, I'm more curious how they're going to approach the tone of a film about a magic alien ring whose powers are useless against yellow objects....

Wake me up when they make a Green Lantern movie about Katma Tui, Tomar Re, or my favorite - Dkrtzy Rrr - a Green Lantern that's an abstract mathematical progression.

Or Mogo - since Mogo is an entire planet.

Yeah, making a Green Lantern movie realistic might be difficult.

I think that's awesome. Ryan Gosling is a really good... He might have to join a gym, but I know he'll bring his A game!!!

    Cool article.

I actually thought Norton was terrible for the Hulk. Gosling would've been a better choice. As for Green Lantern I was hoping they'd chosen Terrance Howard, oh well.

Note to Jico...Hal Jordan was the original GL and he is white. The GL you are referring to is the current GL in JLA. It is true that you would want the person who acts the right part not just the look as a matter of fact Ryan can go on a Hollywood makeover/diet and turn into this hunky dude and loo like anyone. So yea it could happen.

Don't sell Boreanaz so short. He actually was the voice of GL in the "New Frontier" movie, he does have a deep fanbase from his Buffy/Angel days and he's pretty good on "Bones". That, plus he pretty much played Batman for five years (Yeah, the show is called "Angel", but who else do you know that loves wearing black, kicking ass, brooding, nailing hot chicks and driving a cool car?)

I used to really dislike Gosling pretty much because my first exposure to him was on Breaker High. Then I saw him in Stay, and that totally reversed my position on him. He's not enough of a draw for me to see a movie with him in it, but I won't question his ability to act any more.

As for this role, I don't see why not. He might not look exactly the same, but that shouldn't stop them from casting a good actor in the role. I'll wait to hear officially before really digging into it any further.

First off to Robert Fure Downey Jr. is pretty much perfect for Iron Man & I knew that when it first dropped, but Ed "Money" Norton for Hulk idk about that. Honestly I can't speak to much one because I haven't seen it, yet. Still though I don't think he was really the best for the part.. I would rather see him do a much better superhero. I didn't really mind Banner in the first one because that dudes got some acting chops also. David G most likey said it, but he is still money.
Then to Jico I would like very much to see a postive & kick ass black superhero, but not GL (dats my shit). Maybe in a sequel, but not in the first joint.
I actually really see Howard as GL, but he is War Machine so to late..
Gosling he is alright, but idk he better give his best performance in this & make it a franchise because I know my boy Daniel Olah would be perfect for the part.

    @HempKnight757

    Norton was perfect as Banner.
He also looked a lot like Bill Bixby.........

OK for the above NO the only Green Lantern isn't black...and to make the first GL in a movie black would be wrong in all aspects of the origin considering John Stewart came far later than that of Hal Jordan...as far as Ryan Gosling...he'd have to work really hard on his build prior to the movie...HOWEVER I think he can pull it off...
  • dominatr37 · 1 year ago
Gosling is totally wrong for the part. I don't know who is right for it, but its not Gosling that's for sure. Way to much of a geek. Maybe Jensen Eckles?

Yes, don't cut Dave Boreanaz short for this part at all !! I do agree Ryan Gosling is really a great actor, however he just dosen't fit the part. He may pull off the acting but not the stature of Hal Jordan/GL, he can workout as much as he can but he can't get any taller. However Dave Boreanaz, 6'1" has played a hunky hero for 8 years as Angel (buffy/angel). The man knows how to play the part of a hunky, sexy, undercover superhero. Along with the smooth sexy voice...yumm !!
He'd be a perfect candidate for this role.

i love ryan gosling but i think my man nathan fillion from serenity/firefly would be perfect for Mr. Jordan...Jensen Eckles from Supernatural would be a good choice as well.
