Film School Rejects: Two New Twilight Clips Show Giggling, More Staring

  • Cole Abaius · 1 year ago
    1) When you say I'm almost done with the second book, you mean to say that I've finished the three that have been published already.

    2) These clips are decent, but really poorly packaged. No commentary. No context. And yeah, a lot of giggling. Since when do we show interview time with the two main actors and don't have them say anything? It's probably just indicative of a smaller producer (like Summit) not being as good at PR as a major studio. Hopefully that doesn't translate to the film quality.
  • Sara Awesome · 1 year ago
I think the production looks cheap -- the visual style leaves a lot to be desired -- and I
think the books are anti-feminism. Bella is a ridiculously weak and uninteresting character,
and she couldn't carry the books, so how can she carry a film? I'm sick of helpless female
characters that don't want to live if their love interests aren't around. That is sooo 17th
    century.
  • Lilly Anne · 1 year ago
Wow the first one is tough! Um I think its a little of both. While Bella and Edward are teens I think if they were older the story might be a different, but it would still be good and while it is a vampire story it doesnt run on the vampire stuff but I dont think its a backdrop.

For the second question, the movie is warming up to me slowly. I will be excited when it comes out but im worried I will be critiquing it the entire time like I did with the Harry Potters. But I always end up liking both in there own special way. As far as what ive seen it looks fantastic!!!! Bella and Edward after thinking about it, look like Bella and Edward and all the Cullens look just like the Cullens in my mind. So, so far, I have not been disapointed by the flim.
  • Briana · 1 year ago
While I think that the books are fantastic, and most definitely NOT "teeny-bopper," the movie doesn't seems to be holding up to my expectations. While I think that Robert as Edward will be fantastic, Kirsten just isn't my favorite actress, as with Bella not being my favorite character. Overall, I'll go see it in theaters, but only for my love of a good romance story. (I'm also excited for Penelope - such a good movie!)

Sara Awesome: There's a reason why Stephenie Meyer has Bella reading books such as Wuthering Heights and quoting plays like Romeo and Juliet.
  • Brinkley · 1 year ago
First of all I am a huge fan of all 4 books, or 3 soon to be 4. I will have to agree that the movie may not appeal to the less intelligent people out there who don't read, but I am really excited for the books that I love so much to be brought to life. I think that if you don't read the books first, you will have no idea about the concept of Bella and Edward's relationship.
Please do trash the movie!!! No, it is not a action packed dude movie, and no it is not your typical sex-packed romantic comedy, but regardless it will be seen by the TRUE fans who are literally in love with the characters. And its not just for teens, LOTS of ages read it. My grandma is even reading it. Just because it is mostly about teenagers doesn't mean they are not relatable to adult audiences. Thanks for reading!!! I cannot wait for 12-12-08!
  • Neil Miller · 1 year ago
    @Brinkley

This is my point. What I am saying is that there are a lot of folks who will not read the book before seeing the movie. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are less intelligent, just that for some, their first exposure will be through the film's marketing, thus driving them into theaters to meet Edward and Bella for the first time. It doesn't mean that they don't read, just that they've never read Twilight -- and there are people who have never read Twilight, they do exist.

That said, I am a firm believer that a filmmaker who is adapting a book to film should always strive to make the film accessible to all viewers. In a sense, if the film is successful then I shouldn't have to read Twilight in order to enjoy and understand the film. In fact, in this day-and-age of constant adaptation, the film is often the catalyst -- a good film can make people want to go out and read the book. It happened to me with The Mist and Iron Man. Seeing the films made me want to go out and find more.

As well, I have a feeling that there were people who went out and bought the Harry Potter books solely on the basis that they enjoyed the first film. And at this point I am not sure if Twilight is going to be that sort of film -- but I am not ready to stand firm on that as of yet, as we have seen so little up to this point. It does worry me, though.
  • Sammi K · 1 year ago
I was one of those fans that started reading the HP series after seeing the first movie and i can understand Neil's concern, but it still months away. Just the fact that there is this much buzz about the movie already is a good sign that tickets will be bought whether the movie is good or not (and that's the really what Summit cares about). Whether the final project can appeal to those who haven't read the series definitely a big question, but as of right now these trailers and behind the scene stuff are meant to appeal to people who've read the books and wanna see a movie made of it. Who else would know to google Twilight and check MTV blogs for a movie so far in advance? And hopefully if this story intrigues new people they will read the books before Dec. (they have more than enough time). The book is ALWAYS better than the movie!

To Sara's response about the books being 17th century and anti-feminist, I'd like to remind you that Bella is just a human that can only dream of being powerful, strong, etc. like the vampires (and that clearly is the point of the story). Stephenie's response to those who feel that Bella is weak... is: Bella's story is not done yet. And honestly, Bella was ready to sacrifice herself in the third book, how can you call that weak? Bella is also supposed to represent a normal girl in an abnormal situation; if she were anything more than that (like amazing beautiful and popular), she would lose her appeal. Granted you are entitled to dislike the story, but it seems that your idea of Bella isn't the same idea Stephenie had in mind. [sorry when ppl say things like this it really annoys me]
  • Elisabeth · 1 year ago
to Sara Awesome: I couldn't help but comment on your post. I'm not trying to sound like you're not entitled to give out criticism to the book's character. The fact that you find Bella uninteresting is your right. I'm not gonna say anything on that. When you interpreted Bella's character as also being "weak", I did not get that from her character at all. It's hard for me to explain it because English is not my primary language so it's hard to express what I really mean. But as Sammi K said "Bella was ready to sacrifice herself to in the third book". Bella is strong when it comes for her loved ones. She has a low self-esteem and I think that's why you think she is weak because the book is in her perspective but if you look beyond her words you will see what I mean. A lot of criticisms also say Edward is described as too perfect. But most people forget the book is entirely in Bella's perspective.. and she is in love with Edward. When we are in love we go crazy like that sometimes. I think that is the beauty of the book. I just feel like I had to point that out because a lot of people do not get the book at all. I hope I make sense. My English is kinda bad.
  • Robert Fure · 1 year ago
As a member of the Horror Community and someone who hasn't read the books, I can say I have 0.0 interest in this film. Kristen Stewart looks cute though. I will not be in line for this one and I think a lot of real horror fans will see this for what it really is - a teenage romance movie - and stay away.
  • Roxie · 1 year ago
I also have to disagree with Sara's anti-feminist assessment (although you're far from alone, even in the fandom ppl consider Bella to be 'uninteresting').

As Sammi K put forth, Bella is a VERY HUMAN girl thrust into some super human situations. She isn't helpless, she's human. This is also a very frustrating situation for Bella. She states herself that she's tired of not being able to help and can't wait to actually be able to fend for herself.

Also as stated before by Elisabeth, Bella is strong emotionally when it comes to protecting those she loves. She's just no slayer.

Other's point to Bella's cooking for her father all the time as "anti-feminist", which I think is unfair. Bella's not cooking because she's female. Nor does she or her father think she should be cooking b/c she's female. She's cooking if simply not eat her father's "cooking". Now, why dad can't cook, we can totally get into..but I don't see this activity as "anti-feminist"

Now, as to questions about the packaging we've still got 5 months until the release...so it might be just a little to early to judge. To me it seems they're doing a bit of fanservice to get the fans into it and buzzing EVEN MORE about it, word of mouth and all. However, I'm sure as the clock ticks down, it'll get better and more pointed to those who haven't read the books.

I am very excited for the movie as it seems Kristen and Rob have some excellent chemistry. I'm also excited to see how they present the stories that take place outside of Bella's head. I love the stuff I've seen from the film! However, I've seen a lot more than what's posted here b/c I'm such a ginormous fan. You might want to look up the stuff on Twilight Lexicon's youtube channel (which is under some other name, but search for it and you'll find it easily) as well as their (printed) interviews on the site.

Twilight is a love story involving vampires and teenagers. I know that doesn't answer your question, but I have to say the books are much more than just "I'm in love with a vamp and it's sexy dangerous". There's questions about choices and what humanity actually means, what does it mean to have a soul, etc..
  • Diana Alexander · 1 year ago
I disagree strongly to the feeling that these books and movie are for "teeny-boppers" the
story is about the forbidden fruit of the love that they have. In response to what Sara said
about it being anti-feminist i completely disagree. I think Stephenie Meyer portrayed Bella
in such a way to show the real difference between Bella and Edward. You also forget to look
at the other female characters the author has put in the series such as Esme, Alice and
Rosalie who are all powerful women. As for the movie appealing to the non-readers, i
believe it will appeal to film watchers same as any other movie. Those interested in that
genre will see it and those who aren't wont.
  • Lisa · 1 year ago
NEIL: Totally appreciate where you're coming from in abstaining from the book and look forward to your (hopefully) eary review--do you get to review the movies before realease like the other critics? I hope it stands on its own and at the same time I hope its not a disappointment to us *rabid* fans.

    And I loved Penelope, too.

COLE, Why haven't we seen your review of New Moon and Eclipse? I'm still laughing over the first one that was too funny for words.

TO SARA: Feminism is about being allowed the choice to follow whatever path you want wether its to be a caretaker or an astronaut or a president.
  • Lisa · 1 year ago
BTW the full clip from the Penelope DVD is also on YouTube. Illegally, I'm sure but it really shows the chemistry between Kristen and Rob. Which is clearly the whole point of the packaging here.

NOTE TO SUMMIT: I will be buying Penelope on Tuesday anyway!

I'm just left wondering what they're going to wear to the Prom.
Teens plus Vampires leave me a bit cold.
  • Justice Truman · 1 year ago
I think Stephenie Meyer is a huge douchebag with a J.K. Rowling complex
  • Sydney · 1 year ago
Okay. I admit I didn't read the whole article but I will speak about why you need to read this...This series feels like one of those true stories that just needs to be told to the world. And THANK YOU Stephanie Meyer for sharing it with us. Haha. It isn't real though (unfortunatly).

This series is a romance/action/teen angst novel that just happens to invole mythical creatures (vampires/etc.)

I am convincing all of my freinds and family to read them. And they all LOVE them and usually they all have differnt taste in books. I have my sister (who loves like dragons and junk) reading them, my friends (who usually read like gossip girl and stuff), my aunt (who is like 40!), and even one of my GUY friends (who took a lot of convincing but loves them).

Read these books, you will not regret it!
  • Yvaine · 1 year ago
Neil, I agree with your take on the film's marketing. And as a fan, it really disappoints me.

"...so is it a teeny-bopper romance story with a vampire backdrop or is it a vampire story that just so happens to be about teenagers?" << My impression is they're marketing it as the former. But to non-Twilighters, based on what's been released, you don't even get an inkling that this film has vampires in it, so at times, all you get is the teeny-bopper romance. It feels like they want to appeal to the fans, but not necessarily to those who don't know what Twilight is. But although there are a lot of fans, that's not guaranteed to make the film a success (case in point: Eragon). The fans will already go see the film, there's very little need to woo them. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart hardly count as "stellar billing" either, so is it safe to bank on them so much? Kristen hasn't even impressed me in what I've seen of her as Bella so far. The PR people should show viewers, specifically non-Twilighters, other reasons to see the film.

As for not reading Twilight until the film comes out... It'll be great to read your take on the film vs. Cole's take. I myself abstained from reading "Prince Caspian" before seeing it, and it gave me a different perspective of the film compared to the Narnia fans I saw the film with. :)
  • Phinecia · 1 year ago
I am a huge Twilight series fan. I have read the 3 books no less than 4 times each. I have watched every available clip about the movie. I go visit 10 or more Twilight themed web sites every day to get the latest news. That being said, I don't think the movie is going to live up to the books. My husband has not and will not read the books but he will see the movie with me. I think it will be interesting to see the different opinions of the movie. Summit only spent 30 some million on the film which is like pennies in movie land. That concerns me. How can you take a book series that knocked Harry Potter 7 off the #1 spot and use minimal finances to translate that to film?

I will go see the movie. BUT I'm afraid that I will be disappointed with the quality and quantity of what I see. So even a DIE HARD TWILIGHTER like me is going to agree with Neil.
  • Heatherglo · 1 year ago
So, I am a huge fan of the books and I too have managed to watch everything I can find on the net regarding the movie. As far as it not living up to the book, what movie has. The books are always better. You just have to know that going in and let your mind go with the movie and not try to follow chapter by chapter in your head. It may open you up to a whole new take on some things...
Also, the movie is still in post production with several months to go. With that being said, any clips, etc that you come across may not really depict what will be on the screen. I am sure Summit is just trying to put out a little here and there to keep the die hards happy. (thanks Summit)

For the question of the movie/book being a teen movie about vamps or vamp story with teens... It really isn't a teeny bopper book series. Matter of fact, I am 30something with a teen daughter and think the books are almost too "grown up" for her. My other 30something friends are the one's who recommended the series and we all love it. So, while it appeals to a broad age range, I think it "just happens to be about teenagers".
  • Casey · 1 year ago
I understand your concern, Neil. But as an avid fan of Twilight (in neither the non-teenie bopper nor the twilightmom catagory), I can assure you that the movie is Vampire (Romance) first, that happens to be about teenagers. Although, the first book could be considered "young adult", I think the second and third book would be fit better into the fiction asile of the bookstores.
As thrilled as I am that the fan base stretches to all ages, it can be a bit frustrating that it gets tied into the "teen" catagory.
  • twilightaddict2010 · 1 year ago
I am a huge fan of the books and have been for over a year so I can't really understand your point of view very well but I can see how Summit isn't doing enough to make the movie appeal to those poor unfortunate souls who haven't read the Twilight Saga.

Now It really gets frustrating when people label Twilight as a teen book. Yes the characters are teenagers but everyone could take a lesson from Bella and Edward. And when I saw everyone, I do mean everyone from a sixteen-year-old teenage girl like myself to a sixty year old grandmother to a thirty year old male.
  • Meg · 1 year ago
I began reading the Twilight Saga only a few months ago, so I'm not one of those fans
who has been devoted to the series since it came out in 2005. However, I was shocked
to find out the book was considered Young Adult after reading the first one. The second
two especially have more adult themes in them. I don't believe it is a teenage vampire
book... i read some of those when I was a teen and remember them being written
differently. These vamps just happen to be teens in my opinion.

The first Harry Potter book came out when I was eleven years old and I didn't even see
the first movie when it came out b/c I was afraid it would not live up to expectations....
and it didn't. And though all of the HP movies have disappointed me in some way, I still
love them b/c I love that story. I think Twilight will be the same way for most of the
fans. I believe in Robert Pattinson's and Kristen Stewart's ability to bring something to
these characters. The budget of this film is low in comparison to other major studios, key
word being MAJOR. Summit is not a huge studio, but I think that if Twilight delivers, the
sequels will have a bigger budget.

Currently, I agree with others on the marketing... it hasn't yet been aimed toward anyone
other than Twilight fans. It will be interesting to see how the second trailer is received
when it is released TOMORROW. And how things change as it gets closer to December.

I'm not even going to touch on the topic of Bella and feminism... what I feel in response
to that arguement has already been said: Bella is a HUMAN who hangs out with
VAMPIRES, of course she is weak in comparison to the company she keeps.
  • Mary · 1 year ago
to me, personally, i don't believe we saw enough to see if the movie is going to be good enough. sure, we saw a [teaser] trailer, and we saw clips of the film [which haven't been fixed up yet] I am a fan of the twilight saga, and get disturbed when saying it is a "teen" book. it is because people are categorizing adult books into only political standards and *pornographic* romance?? Twilight appeals to everybody [well, for those who love it of course!] and shouldn't be categorized into ANY age level. that being said, i am walking into the theatre with low expectations. because the people coming in with high expectations are *usually* the ones who are very upset about how the film went. i do hope the film does great, being said that they only spent $30 something million on it. But you must realize that hollywood is getting cheaper, or shall i say, easier and less expensive to get good effects. so maybe the film will be quite good. we'll just have to wait and see. Again, i REALLy hope it does good! i love all of the actors and actresses and believe their acting ability will bring the book justice [and also entertain the ones who haven't read the books]
  • Chels · 1 year ago
I would first like to comment on what Justice Truman said about Stephenie Meyer having a JK Rowling complex. When Stephenie has been asked in interviews about whether Twilight can be compared to Harry Potter or not, Stephenie always replies by saying that although she is flattered by those comments, there is no way that there will ever be another fandom like that of Harry Potter. This to me says that Stephenie is humble and down to earth and definitely not a douchebag.

Secondly, I have to disagree with the comment that Twilight is only meant for teens. I have talked to people well over the age of twenty five who have read the book and have really enjoyed it. There is even a fan website called the "Twilight Moms".

Lastly, I think that it is too early to tell whether or not the film version will be appealing to those who haven't read the book. It doesn't even come out for five months. I'm sure that once we get closer, the marketing will switch from the crazed and rabid fans (don't worry, I'm one too :D) to everyone who hasn't read this book.
  • Melody · 1 year ago
its still 5 months before the movie comes out so i dont expect these videos and short clips
to please anybody yet. These videos seems to be targeting Twilight fans and making them
happy cuz its short and not a lot of people would understand unless you've read the books.
But the recent trailer, which showed on Entertainment Tonight on tuesday evening (it will be
out Thurs. on the web) is a really good trailer. And im not saying that just cuz im a fan but i
think it catches people's attention. It's longer and definitely better! You guys and FSR can
check it out cuz its on youtube =)
  • Kaye · 1 year ago
I think the movie will be okay. I'm hoping it will be awesome, feeling nervous that it might be terrible, but my highest hopes are that it will land some where in the middle.

From what I've seen...ehh...I think the tone is far to serious.
I don't know. For me Twilight was never SRS BIZNIZ!!!!11 and its a little off putting for it to seem that way. Its just an easy(addicting, when it sticks) summer read, and I think they made it too dark.

Its definitely NOT a horror. I don't know why they're even trying to market it that way.

But yeah. :] As a fan of the series, I'm just praying it won't be horrible.
  • Ashley Demma · 1 year ago
Rpatz is gorgeous, Stephenie Meyer would never let a studio butcher her baby, and Catherine Hardwicke is a badass director. We have NOTHING to worry about.

I just hope Hot Topic jumps on the Twilight bandwagon and gives me a reason to buy more shit I don't need. Twilight pins, shirts, lanyards, coffee mugs, posters, keychains, etc...
  • Georgia · 1 year ago
I trust that the movie will be alright at the least. Stephenie Meyer wouldn't have signed off if it was a horrible script. It is more the advertising I'm worried about. At the moment I think that Summit are focusing on appealing to the fans of the book but hopefully when a full length trailer is released it will convince some other people to see it.
Though I hope that it appeals to the right market. Twilight is mainly romance with some action and the throw in of vampires.
  • Sarah · 1 year ago
Sara: Interesting you should say that, as quite a few feminist communities I know of have used Twilight as a model book. Bella does have low self-esteem, it's true - but I think the events in ALL of them show how she's growing up and slowly accepting herself for who she is. At the beginning of Twilight, for example, Bella was painfully shy, got pushed around and didn't talk her opinions much. By the epilogue, Bella is already more confidant: she's telling jokes, arguing with Edward, and being all-around braver.

New Moon is the book that seems to get under people's skin, but just hear (or is it read??) me out: Edward was no better than her. In fact, he was WORSE. FAR worse. The fact Bella could be normal enough to go to school, ride bikes with Jake, go hiking and do normal-people things is an amazing feat.
Remember...vampire love is not normal, human love.

Eclipse...Bella made a choice here. In Twilight, if she had had to make this choice, she would have been lost trying to make everyone happy. She was still a wreck here (briefly!), but she was able do it.

Neil: There's no such thing as a movie as good as the book it's based on. Golden Compass, anyone?
I think of Twilight as a STORY...with teens and vampires thrown in. Breaking Dawn might be a vampire story, but the first three are all too personal and too human to be classified as "fantasy novel". The fact teenagers are in it is almost irrelevant - especially as quite a few of those "teenagers" are 90+!"
  • candace · 1 year ago
i'm wary from what i've seen so far. the stunts look ridiculous. i'm worried that i will hate the movie because the stunts look like something from a silly sci-fi channel made for tv movie. i loved the books but....i guess i can't judge for sure until i see the whole thing. but what they've shown looks over-choreographed & fake. i think they could have done better (based on what i've seen online).
  • Rose · 1 year ago
I'm pretty sure the comment made by "Justice Truman" needs to be taken off. It is way out of line and totally uncalled for.

I have recently read the Twilight Series and I have to say that I absolutely loved them! I am very excited for the movie and everything I've seen so far looks pretty good. At first, I was a little skeptical about the actors they picked but they've kind of grown on me, so I'll just have to wait to see how they do. I don't care if the movie doesn't live up to the first book because everyone knows that books are always better than the movie. And in my opinion the first book is the best out of the whole series (not including #4 of course) and that’s a pretty big quota to fill. For those of you who choose to be 'different' and not read the books before going to the movie then that’s great, but don't whine and critique every little thing about it please! It's not like this is the first time a movie was made from a popular book and if this film does end up being horrible and cheesy well...this wouldn’t be the first movie to have done that would it?

Read the books because they are amazing!
  • liz · 1 year ago
Well i saw a preview for twilight when i went to go see Indiana Jones and since i saw that movie it made me want to read the book, well i did and the other two and i love them!!
  • Sherri · 1 year ago
I have read the twilight series and absolutely love all three of them. But I have to agree that the previews do not seem like the movie is going to live up to the books. But rarely can books live up to the movie because your missing so much of the building blocks to the ending. Either way I will be excited to see the movie, but I already know I will not like it as much as or more than the book series.
  • Whit · 1 year ago
I am a huge fan of the Twilight Saga but I must say that I am almost certain that the movie will not fit the standards of many Twilight fans. I have a feeling that the movie wont be that good but of course I will have to see the movie just to see how they adapted this amazing book to the screen. I have heard from many that the previews do look lacking but what can you do how often do you see a movie do a book justice. All I have to say is that if movie goers dislike the movie don't throw in the towel for the book.
  • Daisy · 1 year ago
I have read the whole Twilight saga and I absolutely love them. I am in love with Edward Cullen. Personally I think that this movie is going to be huge. I mean did you see the second Twilight trailer on Entertainment Tonight?? ( It is also on YouTube) I mean, apparentely we Twilighters crashed etonline.com with our exitement for the movie. I think we also crashed the twilightlexiconblog.com server when the teaser trailer came out because we were practically hypervelanting. When I saw the clip from MTV I was SHAKING. So I think the movie will definately live up to the book. :)
  • Daisy · 1 year ago
Go check the ''We Killin' Some People Today'' behind the scenes video that Mtv launched out on You Tube. In MY opinion, this proves how big Twilight is going to be.
  • GlenBoy · 1 year ago
The effects look really weird. I'm not really feeling it. Someone mentioned that it looks like one of those TV shows on the Sci-fi channel with cheap special effects and it's true.

But Twilight fans will love it. The rabbid fans will chew anyone who so much as criticises the movie.
  • Kasandra · 1 year ago
Keeping in mind that I'm a huge fan of the books and a TwilightMOM, I LOVE what I've seen so far of the trailers & behind the scenes. And I don't think it will matter whether or not you've read the books before you see the movie. I believe it will stand on it's own.

Every new clip that comes out gets me more excited about it. I can't wait!!!
  • samantha · 1 year ago
I am a huge twilight fan and so far I am very happy with what I've seen so far. The
casting is great. The series is very much so a "vampire story that just so happens to be
about teenagers" when you are reading the book you don't feel that Bella is really an
average teenager just an average human. Which makes her obsessive interest for a
strange drop-dead gorgeous boy who, may be a vampire, increasingly interesting. How
it transfers on film is the main issue. Twilight has the greatest potential to be wonderful.
Screw it up and it has the greatest potential to crash and burn. Summit just needs to be
smarter about their promotion. The worst possible scenario is the movie ending up to be
too slow paced or cheesy, because the books are most definitely not. I love seeing all
these clips and things but I honestly don't want to see the whole movie before
December. I have faith in this movie. It doesn't matter if you see the movie before you
read the book. But you should be aware that you are missing out on the amazing
    experience that Twilight offers.
  • Heidi · 1 year ago
I disagree with Sarah Awesome who claims that Bella's character could not carry the books. Bella truely is a heroine. She might not be physically strong, but she has such a strong heart that she is willing to give to another person. What better hero is there than that? In the 2nd book, Bella puts her life at risk to save Edward- how is that anti-feminist or weak? She goes out or her way to protect those she loves, one of the strongest female traits of humankind that is celebrated in the the Twilight saga like no other book I know. Those who claim it is anti-feminist, either haven't read the books, or don't really understand what femine really means.
As for loving the movies if you haven't seen the books? How can anyone know until they've seen them? I think if a person goes to watch them with an open mind, they will enjoy the storyline and action of the film. I think that knowing a person is willing to love without holding back is the true "catch" of the story and I hope that will come across in the film.
I'm a bit worried about the film because I know movies can ruin excellent books (ie Eragon).

I have full faith in this film's ability to stand alone and draw in people not of the rabid fan base. There have been countless interviews with all involved in the movie, and they are all fans of the books. They have a passion for the characters and they want to see them brought to life just as much as the Twilighters do. People from Summit can be quoted saying that they are making Twilight the movie NOT Twilight the book the movie, But their goal is the same as Stephenie Meyer's hope for the movie. They want people new to the story to leave the theater caring about Edward and Bella, to want to know more about them and all the characters. Summit is a small production company but they have made movies that people love, for example- Love in the Time of Cholera, P.S. I Love You, and Once. They have a new movie in production staring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, Summit is fully capable of making a hit movie.

When it comes to whether or not Twilight is a teenie-bopper love story or not, I would most definitely have to say that its not. Its a timeless love story, sure the main characters are teenagers, but the story is endearing. Doesn't one of life's greatest and most quoted love story talk place between two teenagers? Romeo and Juliet were the same age, but the world still idolizes their story. Does being teenagers make Edward and Bella's love less true? Is it just because their story takes place in modern day that they cant be capable of knowing true and everlasting love? So i must say that just because the main characters are teenagers doesn't mean that it is just a run of the mill teenie-bopper love story, its more than that. It's deeper and more complex than that. In my opinion, the only reason these books are classified in the YA section of book stores is because the characters are younger and it doesn't have the sex and language that you find in most books now days. If one dives deeper into the books you can find underlying morals and values in every situation brought up throughout the story. It questions humanity and showcases the struggle between good and evil right and wrong. And I have to say that I have full faith that Summit, Cathrine Hardwicke, and the cast and crew will bring all this to the screen and leave the audience wanting more.

I'm one of those who strongly feel that the Twilight series should not have been
categorized as young adult material. Case in point -- I've already told my tween
daughter that she may only read Twilight when she is in her senior year in high school
and not any earlier, or better yet, when she's in college already. I feel that the series is
too 'grown up' for her -- i think she has to become more emotionally mature in order to
correctly process the various 'adult' themes and issues tackled in the series.

To add to these adult issues, I feel that the series is undoubtedly a lot more passionate,
intense and sensual that any adult romance novels i've read (and believe me, I've seen
them all, voracious reader that I am). Everyone who has read the books can surely attest
    to this fact.

As for Twilight the movie, I like what I've so far seen in the clips and trailers. I've never
been a fan of Rob and Kristen, but I think that they are doing exceptional jobs in their
portrayal of Edward and Bella. One earlier post raised a question about how safe it is for
the studio to bank on their so called "stellar billings" -- I believe that they have much
more than that to offer the movie, and that is pure, unadulterated talent, something
that's already apparent in the clips and trailers released to the public. It's only proper to
manage our expectations of the film, something that Summit has been doing in saying
that they are making Twilight the Movie, not Twilight the Book into The Movie. It's never
easy to adapt a book into the big screen. There's bound to be a lot of changes and
adjustments to the story. And this is always inevitable when you change from one format
of expression into an entirely different medium.

I think we should all just wait until the film comes out AND then start bitching about it but obviously the ads of how the film is created is enough to bitch about. Yes it MAY look corny or horror but its just snippets of the film. wait until you see the entire film to judge. I'm not saying dont have an opinion just don't bring other people down with it.

i think the problem with the trailers is that they seemed to be put together just to satisfy the fan's cravings for more of "twilight the movie". It may be low budgeted because it's not produced by a major motion picture giant but I hope the story itself will sell the movie. I have faith in Catherine in making it the best movie it could ever be!

    okay well first of all,
im soooo excited to see this movie.
    and second,
the person who said that bella is weak, well shes not. shes seems weak because obviously the vampires are soo strong, so how can she compare to them.
and before anyone starts dissing the books or the author, maybe they should try to read it first.

I love love love the book series. But some aspects of the movie worry me. Sometimes it seems like Kristen Stewart's portrayal of Bella is bad. And the dialogue sometimes seems weird (in a clip the dialogue seems soooo off). But i'm hoping that those are just bad clips.

OK. i have to say that the movie really worries me cause, i had read the 3 books and the movie doesn't give the 50% of the things that make twilight so special and make it good, if you don't like the movie trailers, try reading the book it always so much better than the movies!!
At first i was disappointed about the movie but i got used to it.
    thanks
so don't judge a book by the movie haha!

I just recently read the books. I went to the theater to see Indiana Jones and I saw the
poster for Twilight. The books had been reccomended to me by EVERYONE at school and
a few people online. So after falling in love with the poster, I bought all three books.

I was hooked. I picked up the first one, read it in a day. Next day read New Moon and
    the next Eclipse.

The books were amazing so it'll be interesting how the finished product of Twilight
comes out. For one, I was horribly sad at the casting of Edward, Bella and Jacob. They're
the three main characters and I didn't think any of them were right.

But then I began watching clips like these and I've warmed up to them. Kristen has always
been a really good dramatic actress, Robert has that ability to dazzle you and Taylor is a
really good depiction of The Big Bad Wolf (as refferanced by Jacob in New Moon).

Of course the movie is never as good as the books but I'm excited to see how it turns
out. Most of my friends hate to read so they'll be seeing the movies with no prior
knowledge apart from what I've told them.

I love the books.. And i read someone say it was anit-femenism... I DONT THINK SO.. Bella is described as a weak person in the outside, but siriously, knowing taht she could be killed by her love and by her bestfriend anytime? Thats a strenght right there.. I MEAN yes, its called love, but if she was as weak as she seems to be she would have survived.. I mean, have ya read breaking Dawn.. Sure, she becomes Super Strong once she is turned into a Vamp. But, before that.. She was having a baby that was surely gonna kill her, she was going through hell by such a hard 1 month pregnacy... And siriously, she made it, how could you say she is not strong.. Of course we are all thinking of her as weak as she broke her hand once she punched a werewolf in the face.. But, when you come think about it, imagine what you would do if the love of your life tells you he is a vampire.. Or your bestfriend turns out to be a werewolf and can kill you anytime he looses his temper.. What about her giving birth to a baby vampire who weights more than her??

Come one people She is Strong. and i think S.M showed taht woman have a lot of strength that we cant even imagine...

I LOVED HOW THE BOOKS ENDED.. I JUST WISH THEY WOULD MAKE ALL THE BOOKS INTO MOVIES.. BUT I SWEAR I WILL CRY SO BAD IN NEW MOON.. ONE, WHEN HE LEAVES HER, 2 WHEN ALICE GETS BACK, 3 WHEN EDWARD IS BOUT TO GO OUT THE SUN, 4 IN THE VOLTURI PART WHEN EDWARD IS GETTING HURT 5 WHEN THEY END UP TOGETHER. AND STUFF.

NOW FOR ECLIPSE I THINK I WILL CRY LESS.. BECAUSE THE SADDEST PART IS WHEN BELLA ADMITS SHE IS IN LOVE WITH BOTH THE BLOOD SUCKER AND THE DOG *I LUV CALLING THEM LYK THAT, ITS SOUNDS MORE CUTE FOR ME; I WOULD MIND HAVIN A BLOOD SUCKER MYSELF*

NOW FOR BREAKING DAWN.. I WILL CRY FOR EVER SINGLE STINKING PART BECAUSE THE BOOK IS SO BEAUTIFUL... NOW, OF COURSE I WONT CRY WHEN THEY ARE HAVING YOU KNOW WHAT.. I WILL CRACK UP IN THAT PART.. LOLZ

MTV and Mr. Abaius have been caught canoodling with the Twilighters, but exactly what part of "the horror community" has been giving Twilight love?
