    Bethany, you forgot to mention Ben Affleck's sexual predator character in Mallrats...personally think it's his best acting ever put on screen ...lol

    I mean every fifteen year old guy can relate to Brodie... I used to think he was the coolest Kevin Smith character...to the point I named my dog after him...watching it these days makes me wonder what kind of psychological damage the Smith idols have inflicted on other teens growing up...always having dirtbag losers as the heroes..hehehe

    It might not lead to being an asshole, but usually having an ego that's proportional to your IQ (or artistic merit or athletic prowess) is usually a solid key to attracting the opposite sex. No one likes a sad clown or a pompous ass (unless that pompous ass is a bona fide genius with a limp).

    Haven't had the pleasure of seeing Kenny Powers yet....but I definitely second the motion to put Stiffler somewhere on there- and somehow add Troy from "Reality Bites".....something about the way he's a total grunge/emo/smoker makes me just start biting my lip in anticipation.....*sigh*!

    great pull! when discussing this column in the writer's room, i did put troy dyer up for grabs. i traded him for beanie. but, these are by no means the "only 5" or the "top 5" assholes. also, troy would definitely be in the "my favorite existentialists" list....which may (or may not) be coming soon! thanks for reading. sic em bears!

    In terms of assholes, I think it is impossible to not include Jeremy Piven's "Ari Gold" on Entourage. This guy is the epitome of the word we have to come to be known as an asshole. I can promise that plenty of female specimens think he's attractive.

    For me, my fave TV asshole (besides House, naturally :P) is Gossip Girl's Chuck Bass. I mean, how can you not love the raspy, dark and brooding Chuck Bass? Okay, so it's a show targeted for teens, but he is a charming, roguish badass with a heart for all ages. (Or is it too cliche? Hmmm....)

    As for the movies, no one has been a better badass than James Bond. He can be a pretty cold bastard at times.

    I always think of Christian Troy from NIp/Tuck. That guy is bone fide, yet he always gets whatever/whoever he wants. His character, who puts house to shame, is the epitome of this article and it would be a shame not to mention him.

    love your post, keep up the good work. but, yes, this list HAS a spot for chuck bass. something i realized after watching my DVRed episodes of GG today. scheming and dreaming suits him. as do all the hookers and drugs. can't wait for next week's!!
