So...Moby Dick without all the elements that make it a classic, emotional tale that hits at the very core of humanity? Sounds fantastic! We can shelve it next to Troy in the rental store.
I think it's troubling right off the bat if Cooper thinks that an action-adventure revenge story is at "the core" of Moby Dick. That's actually just the framing device. The core of Moby Dick is a story about a man's obsession with failure, perfection and trying to become a living God by killing the one thing that proves dominant over him - a tragic flaw that leads to his downfall in the end.
Wake me up when they decide to make The Old Man in the Sea, but decide that the main character needs to be in his late 20s so that he's more relatable to the target market.
