one of the finest american films of the decade, by far.

Great movie, but I disagree with the modern day comparison. It really downplays the chance to directly compare today to what happened at the turn of the century. I don't think there are scenes in the film that go anywhere with that connection. Arguably, the economic and religious conflict is minor. The movie seems more of a personal battle for power. The larger themes are superficial and a lot of reviewers are reading too much of their own beliefs into the text. I noticed "H.W" too, but its similar with other scenes of how careless he is to human beings including his "son". He never calls him by a real name, just initials.

Good review though. I forgot about the long takes.
