Film School Rejects: The Ten Coolest Movie Posters of 2008

  • Alex Billington · 10 months ago
Okay, I don't mind the Forgetting Sarah Marshall posters slide, they were creative and fun... But Zack and Miri? Get the fuck out of here... That was the stupidest poster I have EVER seen! It was just lazy ass marketing on their part! It was NOT creative, it was NOT a good poster, it was so frickin' stupid! How can you claim it was the 2nd best poster of the year? HOW?!
  • Davebaxter1989 · 10 months ago
It was actually GOOD marketing as they were denied more conventional posters forcing them to something creative and I'll go out on a limb and say that the posters aren't in order or if they are it's top down. From reading your site Alex I'd genuinely expect a more thoughtful comment than pointless garbage spewed forth without regard for how uneducated it makes you appear. Maybe I should start a website :)

The movie poster was very funny and cute Forgetting Sarah Marshall is nothing. Neil Patrick Harris' Harold and Kumar poster is a classic the man is great!!
  • RobertFure · 10 months ago
Zak and Miri was clever. Perhaps if you were aware that their initial posters were declined by the MPAA for being too sexual, you'd appreciate the fact that these are childish and playful.
  • Adam_Sweeney · 10 months ago
Yeah, Kevin Smith's whole reason for making those posters came from the fact that the MPAA kept refusing other ones. So, it is funny.
  • BrianCGibson · 10 months ago
Alex, these are in no particular order...its alphabetical really. Just the ten best.
  • CaptainReg0981 · 10 months ago
    Thank you Brian!!

The Pineapple Express poster is terrible and anyone who likes floating head posters is a jerk. =)
  • ANGRYBROOMSTICK · 10 months ago
TDK posters were fuckin BRILLIANT, well done and very much in with the mood and tone of TDK.

I thought the Pineapple Express posters were quite simple and sufficient. I like the poster for SAW V--- so creepy and gross.

I wasn't overly impressed with this years posters.

I couldn't agree less. The Dark Knight and Cloverfield are interesting though. Zack and Miri Make a Porno is okay, but not creative enough for me :)
  • TheGreenMalice · 10 months ago
50 years from now will any of these posters be remembered? I doubt it.
  • J. Acai · 10 months ago
The Dark Knight and Saw posters were the most striking.
  • South Beach Girl · 10 months ago
    "You Suck" really suck.

    Star Trek... nuff said...

This was the first time I noticed some weird writing on the bottom of some of the The Dark Knight posters.

Apparently it says: A TASTE FOR THE THEATRICAL

one of the early sites to find the teaser trailer for TDK was atasteforthetheatrical.com

The Iron Man poster was meh to me. I loved the trailers and the movie, but I wish the poster would have been less cartoony.
  • Davebaxter1989 · 10 months ago
I loved that German poster that came out for Iron Man that made him look BADASS! lol

Ha! I like that one a lot more than the American version.
  • Alericc · 10 months ago
The IM poster with the Eye seemed to appeal more to movie goers that didn't know the full history of Iron Man. The full IM Suit poster made me want to see more since it showed how well done the CGI was on the suit.
  • Jacob · 10 months ago
yeah the iron man posters didn't get me pumped for the movie at all, the trailers did. I agree with Arou101 about it being too cartoony.
  • S. Huber · 10 months ago
You got to be kidding? These are the best?
Guess it was not a creative year! With the excetion of Saw & dark Knight
  • Jamie · 10 months ago
I'm gonna vividly disagree with the Batman poster. That one's all right, but the cooler (and much more rare) poster is the one with Batman's face made completely of cards.

Look at it. Look at that glorious poster. It's brilliant, exciting, and let's us know so much more about the Joker.
