Film School Rejects: The Ten Best Samuel L. Jackson Movies

  • Komikon · 1 year ago
it was all fun and games until you said "black ass."
  • Robert · 1 year ago
What about another movie with him and Bruce Willis in... Unbreakable? Come on, even as a weak pussy his badassness shines through...
  • Keith · 1 year ago
Where the fuck is Deep Blue Sea?
  • Chris · 9 months ago
Deep blue sea sucked. And you suck too for bringing up that piece of crap.
  • Rob Hunter · 1 year ago
Seriously Cole, the absence of 'Unbreakable' should pretty much invalidate your right to make lists going forward. I'm guessing you simply trolled through an alphabetical list of Jackson's movies, and stopped once you reached the P's.
  • Trace · 1 year ago
Ah, Unbreakable. Good call Robert. Yeah, I definitely thought he put on his game face for that one.
  • Robert Fure · 1 year ago
What really invalidates the article is saying that Jackson plays "Bad Ass to Totally Bad Ass" when what you meant to say was Jackson plays "The same role every fucking time and is about as fresh as two week old dog poop."
  • wisekwai · 1 year ago
A remarkably diverse list. Still, no Jackie Brown?
  • Ronin · 1 year ago
I think you 10th one is called Formula 51
  • T · 1 year ago
The omissions of Jackie Brown, Unbreakable and his great perfomance in A Time to Kill are surely huge mistakes...?

All I'll say is you give coming to america a place based on a small cameo but no goodfellas? And it probably Is'nt popular but I'd more likely watch the star wars prequels over a few on the list.
  • Michelle Graham · 1 year ago
Unbreakable was fantastic but c'mon! Where's Snakes on a Plane (The movie made completely around internet fan based speculation and even re-edited to appease the ravenous masses) on this list! Oh, right. It's not on it. Which is a GOOD THING.
  • Cole Abaius · 1 year ago
Yes, friends. It pained me. Physically pained me to leave out some movies. It didn't pain me to leave out Snakes on a Plane, but pretty much everything else came with a pang at my side.

@ Ronin - Formula 51 is the USA alternate title for The 51st State. It's tagline also involves "One bad mother in a kilt," which is awesome.

@Fure - your opinion is wrong.
  • JMoney · 1 year ago
"through on the black dress suit"

no editing at FSR I take it? It's "threw"

and also, this list is complete garbage, as others have said before, where is Unbreakable, a Time to Kill, or The Negotiator even.

i enjoy his work sometimes, but this list could be seen as proof of quantity over quality in the roles he's played
  • Neil Miller · 1 year ago
I don't think this list is bad... It just could be a lot longer. The immense filmography that is the Sam Jackson Experience has seen its fair share of great films. I would agree wholeheartedly that A Time to Kill, Unbreakable and The Negotiator should be on the list, as Deep Blue Sea. I mean, a fucking shark at him!
  • Robert Fure · 1 year ago
@Cole - I've never hated anyone more than I hate you in this instant.
  • Reg · 1 year ago
Now now guys Cole is right, he just didn't put all of those other movies because this is his all time fav but if Robert put's in his top ten, then you can have yourself your own opinion. No hard feelings guys. Oh I agree w/ Cole's choice of Incredibles I loved him on that and I loved him in Iron man cameoing as Nick Fury. He is a total badass actor no wonder people praise him as the second thing that ever happen in showbiz.
  • ddog · 1 year ago
what about the red violin? unbreakable? thats shamylans best film!
still think jackie brown is quentins best film.

    MR.GLASS!!
  • Rachel · 1 year ago
The name of the movie described as #10 is Formula 51
  • Rachel · 1 year ago
and my Samuel L. Jackson rule is he must use the word "motherfucker" in any
movie for it to be a good Samuel L. Jackson movie
  • Amol_Ghadi · 1 year ago
Not including one of the most down-to-earth and one of the best superhero movies ever:'Unbreakable(2000)' is really a big error if SLJ's best performances are being taken into account. And what about Shaft(2000)? OK, but Missing 'Unbreakable' is not pardonable. For me, his performance in 'Unbreakable' is second only to Pulp Fiction(1994).
  • Josh Radde · 1 year ago
    Goodfellas.
  • Amol_Ghadi · 1 year ago
Cole killed the Sensiblity factor right there and then when he described SLJ's range only as 'Bad Ass to Totally Bad Ass'. It shows disrespect for the sensiblity of such a great actor. Have anyone watched 'One Eight Seven' where SLJ played a role of a teacher ? Such a nice stuff.
  • Amol_Ghadi · 1 year ago
This is my third post. Every time I leave this page to do some other stuff, I recall some good movies/performances of SLJ. What about 'Against the Wall' ?
  • Amol_Ghadi · 1 year ago
Please forgive me. I will stop after this. What about 'Mo Better Blues(1990)' played alongside the heavyweight Denzel Washington?
  • Jaszalcatraz · 1 year ago
Master Windu deserves to be here......
  • Pliskin · 1 year ago
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Where is SHAFT and SNAKES ON A PLANE?
  • MLeeza · 1 year ago
I realize this is your own personal concept, but why is it that nobody who even disagrees ever suggests Samuel Jackson's portrayal of a doctor in "Eve's Bayou." I thought his characterization was different, exceptional and great. Anybody out there agree with me? Anybody out there even see this film? Let's all just face it. Samuel L. Jackson is the ultimate actor's actor and ours as well! He deserves his accolades all around, and it's just all simply phenomenal.
  • Cyclonus · 1 year ago
Do The Right Thing should be #1 and that the double truth Ruth.
  • kyle · 1 year ago
I think at least an honorable mention goes to Snakes on a Plane. I mean, come on. That movie would have been flat-out retarded. But since it had Samuel L. Jackson in it, it kicked ass!! He definitely made the movie.
And maybe I've been watching a lot of star wars lately, but Jackson plays a damn good Mace Windu. best jedi ever.
    And you forgot Shaft. lol.
  • eduardo · 10 months ago
    you are awsome dude
  • henry · 10 months ago
what happened to mace windo? he chopped fetts head like it was nothing. and if your adding cameos what about his part in iron man as nick fury?
  • Jay · 10 months ago
    I don't remember 51st State, I remember it being called Formula 51
  • Stak · 10 months ago
Doesn't anyone read the other comments before making a comment. For thhe last bloody time, the 51st state and Forumla 51 are both appropriate names! Formula 51 is the american title, the 51st state is the british title.
  • Rahul · 10 months ago
"A devastating film presence that has earned the accolades and popularity that he’s worked his black ass off for."

What, exactly, were you thinking by ending the post with this? You did a decent job acclaiming his acting talent throughout the post, then you go and ruin it with such a stupid remark. Douchebag.
  • Jes · 9 months ago
Basically, that's all I see when I see SLJ. The Incredibles was a breakaway for him.

I can only hope he won't be coming back for The Avengers movie. We'll just pretend that after-the-credits Iron Man scene didn't happen....
  • gfjf · 9 months ago
no snakes on a plan, come on
  • PNK · 1 month ago
Love this list! But what about Snakes on a Plane, and Lakeview Terrace - 2 flicks that totally succeed due to his persona and power? And they both opened #1 - he can open a movie! And that's quite a thing. And he is deep and chilling in Unbreakable, he's my fave part of that movie.
I am looking to have a Samuel L Jackson-fest this New Year's Eve and was looking for a list of his best, this is very helpful in my quest!
