Bold move going with In Bruges, Rob. I like it. I don't think the film got enough credit due to the public's backlash towards all things Colin Farrell. Excellent list.

Colin Farrell sucks. Backlash well deserved...the movie isn't even that good.

I guess we disagree a bit, but I loved In Bruges. It was subtle, great dialogue, and it never went in a direction I expected. I just don't see what problem people have with Farrell.

I really disagree. After seeing his interview on Johnathan Ross, I was blown away by him. He gave such a beautiful speech. And he was brilliant in In Bruges. Also where is the fall from you just put Earth next to it.

I Loved You So Long (French) It is the most heart wrenching film I've ever seen. I don't know if you saw this one but if you are a parent it should be on the list. And if you have a close or non existent relationship with a sibling, this movie makes you rethink the dynamics of the relationship you currently have.

I have to agree with Brian, Colin Ferrell is so mediocre that his very presence in a film makes it a B-Movie.

in bruges was in deed an awesome film.. but let the right one in should be numero uno
  • Rob_Hunter · 11 months ago
I've heard great things about it, but unfortunately haven't managed to see it yet. I will though!

I couldn't agree more with In Bruges as number one. Although I don't agree with The Fall being here. To me it felt ill contrived and a bit shallow. Just as in Tarsem's The Cell, it seems to focus more on style rather than substance .

I would have gone with Let the Right One In for the top spot, but number two isn't bad. I liked In Bruges quite a lot. Boy A is thought provoking and heartbreaking and you're right about Andrew Garfield's performance.
The child actors in Let the Right One In are excellent and the film is beautiful, chilling, haunting and mesmerizing.
    Good article.

Ddog, thats because it was filmed in over 12 countries. Dmuff, you thought The Fall was shallow? Hmmm
I thought The Fall was one of the best films I've seen in years.

Hunter...you liked Let the Right One In eh? Does that mean you've come to terms with underaged nudity? Thought so.
  • Rob_Hunter · 10 months ago
In legitimate cinema yes, but I'm still not interested in watching your home movies Cole. No means no.

I haven't seen Let The Right One In (I'll see it the moment it arrives on DVD here in Peru) but In Bruges is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time.

I managed to see Let the Right One In at an indie theater near me last night and was absolutely blown away. Its definitely in the top 3 of the year.

the fall comes from earth??? that was hilairous. i want to visit that country
  • CoryBouffard · 10 months ago
I think it was a joke about how the film was shot in so many locations.
  • ANGRYBROOMSTICK · 10 months ago
most of these films are in English... I'd rather have "foreign language" picks.
  • Rob_Hunter · 10 months ago
Four out of ten are in English. But point taken.

    what about Timecrimes???
  • Rob_Hunter · 10 months ago
I actually wasn't that thrilled with Timecrimes. Interesting premise, but it was filled with problems like predictability, bad acting, stupidity, and a pretty big time travel plot hole. My review is elsewhere on this site.

good, looks Tokyo Gore Police is a horror movie.
  • phrenetik · 10 months ago
Now I know I may sound biased, but my favourite foreign films all seem to come from either the UK or France. :P
On another note, I've been hankering to find excellent foreign films to watch, and thanks so so much for compiling all these great movies in one list! ^^ What I regret most is that none of these movies will be ever be found, either on DVD or in theatres in my country. :(

What about After the Wedding? That was a lovely movie, and it felt so real yet so artistic.

How do you figure JCVD was Belgian? It might of been shot there, but the director and the entire film were in French. It's a French movie. Not a Belgian one. It wasn't even a Belgian studio...
