Film School Rejects: The Honor Roll: 20 People That Made an Impact in 2008

I saw Pattinson's performance as Dali in Little Ashes at Raindance and it was excellent. He's also very good in the indie film How To Be. I think Twilight needs to be regarded as the equivalent of Depp's Nightmare on Elm Street appearance.

Pattinson is awesome as Salvador Dali in Little Ashes. His last scenes in the film where he finally becomes the eccentric we know are remarkable. All done in one take. The film's out in March so see for yourself.

I hope so, he wasn't terrible in Twilight but he also wasnt great, either.

I find Danny McBride disturbing attractive and that Jason Segel pic is not very apettizing Hmph! oh you miss putting him in "How I Met Your Mother" cred. Elizabeth Banks is hot and I can't wait to see her in The Uninvited looks like a killer.

I agree with most names on the list, but Kristen Bell? Please, I just don't see a very bright future for her.

my heart belongs to Danny Boyle, I am in love with almost all of his movies.... le sigh
  • Nevernude · 10 months ago
Kristen Bell made an impact? COME ON! apart from Forgettin Sarah Marshall, what else of note has she been in this year?...and Kat Dennings?...
sorry, but this list is flawed.

This list seems to be centered around about 5 movies... but anyways...

Danny McBride's best role is in Hot Rod. If you haven't seen that, go see it. Ridiculously funny.

I think Heath Ledger should be on the list. Thats the first person I thought would be on here when I read the title. The Joker?
  • MackB · 10 months ago
Granted it wasn't in my city for more than a week, but what about JCVD from.... uh JCVD. The film was brilliant with all of the self deprecating and even that existential soliliquy. He's no Rourke in the Wrestler mind you, but his comeback was more unlikely than either RDJ or Mickey Rourke. He should get a huge boost for his career, maybe even another movie that is released in theatres instead of dtv.
  • Adam_Sweeney · 10 months ago
Any mention of JCVD gets negated by the film Gods punishing him for making Double Team with Dennis Rodman. Hmm, Mickey Rourke was in that film as well. We are going to have to have a talk with these Gods.
  • Rob_Hunter · 10 months ago
Sorry Adam, MackB is right on this one. Van Damme should be on this list, but unfortunately Abaius hasn't got a clue when it comes to anything worthwhile. JCVD should be there in place of Coogan, Bell, or Kolirin.
  • Adam_Sweeney · 10 months ago
You're only saying that because you admire Van Damme's chiseled buttocks ... which I SWEAR I have never found myself looking at. Damn Bloodsport, ruining my reputation. Sigh.
  • David G · 10 months ago
Dont forget JCVD was a groping and sexual harrassing mess in the 80's and 90's. Did anyone see him dry humpin teenage girls on MTV?
  • Adam_Sweeney · 10 months ago
Another ecellent point. He did do a lot of dry humping in his time.

"This time in 2007, no one was quite sure whether Downey, Jr was doing regional theater or doing regional theater completely intoxicated."

umm...he was in Zodiac in 2007 and delivered one hell of a performance.
  • Nevernude · 10 months ago
Why isnt Heath Ledger on this list?
  • CaptainReg0981 · 10 months ago
    I know huh?
  • ANGRYBROOMSTICK · 10 months ago
This list is more of people who made a "comeback" or suddenly got noticed all of a sudden. Heath pretty much got noticed a few years ago and I think notably got even more acclaimed with Brokeback Mountain.
  • Nevernude · 10 months ago
Well the title of the article says "people who made an impact....." and no one made a bigger impact than Heath in 2008. if you want to take the whole "suddenly got noticed" thing, then Danny Boyle should not be on that list. Boyle already received critical acclaim with 28 Days Later, and to a lesser degree, Sunshine. i maintain Heath Ledger SHOULD be on this list.

    Good point Nvrnude.

Interesting list, I do agree with it for the most part; would like to say the guy from Twilight shouldn't be here. I suppose he does though, realizing this a a list of people that made an impact, not necessarily bettering the film community as a whole with said impact.
