I love this movie, probably one of my favorite movies of all time as well. BTW everyone should just buy the whole buster keaton collection, it's definitely worth it.

It is a great movie. Easily among the best silent movies ever made. It would be in my Top 100 for sure. Good choice. If you have netflix, you can watch online.

I have nothing but admiration for the General but Keaton made better movies than that one, most notably Sherlock, Jr.
In every respect you mentioned, comedy, action, influence, this is as good as Keaton gets (which is to say as good as anyone gets).
