Twilight Saga: New Moon Sets Records, Hauls in $140 million
thought atonement was by far the weakest of the best pic nominations last year and
joe wright isn't all that impressive to me but you have to go to great lengths to
mess up a story like that
However, I don't think the Academy will really risk incurring the wrath of the public so they probably will go with at least Heath Ledger for Best Supporting Actor and nominations for Best Picture, Best Score, Costume etc.
of nominations. Ratings have been falling for the Awards ceremony, and by having TDK
in multiple categories will help raise the number of viewers which will allow them to
charge more for commercial time. I don't know to much about how the Academy
works, but seeing as it's a great film, a widely seen film, and an almost universally
loved film, it will get the nominations it deserves, but mainly for money.I wish it would
get nominated regardless, but that's what I think
will notice that because of Heath.
I'd say nominate Ledger for Best Supporting, and Downey for Tropic Thunder or Iron Man. That would really get the fans to watch.
=P
they do recognize some films that a lot of mainstream audiences don't appreciate,
but most certainly do deserve the recognition. I think as said, the thinning out of
contenders does make TDK a larger factor come awards season, but I wouldn't
completely go berserk yet. We have to consider the late entries (Milk, Curious Case
of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Changeling, Australia, Slumdog Millionaire, The
Wrestler, Defiance, Revolutionary Road, Doubt, The Reader). Only 2 films have
probably dropped (The Road, The Soloist), but you still have to consider the
remaining 11 before you examine TDK. I don't think Clint Eastwood's made
anything short of shortlist material in half a decade, and well there's very little word
on like half of those films thus far. I would love to see TDK transcend the superhero
genre, but before it can get into the best picture/best director heavy hitter lineup,
it's gotta get the screenplay and editing and other technical aspects. Heath is a solid
lock for the nomination so I'm not gonna say anymore about that. I think I'll be
pretty happy if Wally Pfiester gets recognized for his brilliant cinematography or
Jonathan Nolan for his screenwriting. I'd say a good chunk of Christopher Nolan's
success comes from his genius brother (Memento, The Prestige, TDK).
On the other hand, I won't be entirely surprised if TDK got hit with a billion
nominations. The Academy's recently had a streak of recognizing indy hits that
really don't deserve such incredible hype. I thought films like (mostly fan favorites)
Juno, Michael Clayton, Atonement, Little Miss Sunshine, The Departed, Crash and
Babel were all decent but not awards material. Okay Babel was just plain awful but
the rest were pretty good.
