Film School Rejects: The 20 Most Anticipated Films of 2008

  • black man jew · 1 year ago
my goal is to bone my women in the theater, maybe while watching cloverfield
  • Shaplowski · 1 year ago
2008 looks like a good year for Films, well, except for Speed Racer, only because it's target audience are pre-teens. And, I'm trying to get my children to think of our Environment, to keep the planet healthy. We can only do that by urging our youth and people in power, the importance of alternative Energy sources. And, cleaner modes of transportation. Gasoline powered vehicle Emissions is the number 1 cause of cancer and a global warming.

If you care about this planet, don't let your children get influenced by the Speed Racer movie. It's obvious the Wachowski's are merely creating a Movie/Advertisement to keep the next generation hooked on fast cars, and race car driving, both of which are detrimental to our environment.

    Thank you,
    Mrs. Shaplowski

    BMJ -- Why Cloverfield?
  • black man jew · 1 year ago
Comments like Shaplowski is exactly why people don't care about the environment. I retract my statement. Instead of boning my women in the theater in 08 i will not like to find Shaplowski and ... Comment Edited by Admin -- No Hate Speech!

what about shantaram????? isnt it due to release in 2008??
  • Mr. Miller · 1 year ago
    Mrs. Shaplowski,

Haven't you heard of the Tesla Roadster? The 0-60 in less than a Porche, all electric sports car modeled after a Lotus? I want one, because it's fast, and green. The real problem is people telling teens and young people that you have to do this and have to do that, only for them to rebel and do just the opposite.

As for the films, I am looking forward to Repo, Cloverfield, and Iron Man. But a Sex in the City movie? Now that's ridiculous.

2008 looks like a good year for Films especially for Speed Racer, only because it’s target audience are pre-teens. And, I’m trying to get my children to become interested in cars just like me to keep our relationship healthy. We can only do that by urging our youth and spouses, the importance of having a hobby, And, clean fun. Gasoline powered vehicles are the number 1 cause of happiness and a heart warming.

If you care about your family, let your children get influenced by the Speed Racer movie. It’s obvious the Wachowski’s are creating a Movie/Advertisement to keep the next generation hooked on fast cars, and race car driving, both of which are enriching to our lives.

    Thank you,
    Mr. Shaplowski

this is supposed to be about movies not about al gore. jeeez green fever is starting to piss me off.
  • Brad · 1 year ago
Shaplowski: Really? I thought they were just making a movie based off the animated series from the '60s, but I see I'm totally wrong now. (note: sarcasm)

And how are fast cars and race car driving "detrimental to our environment"? Why can't the two mentioned enjoyments be fun and friendly to the environment (such as biodiesel or other clean energy)?

Your logic isn't making sense to me, but I'm open to being informed.
  • peter guszti · 1 year ago
i heard the wall e, was stolen by Steve Jobs and his movie team, and sold. but I think star trek is most aniticapted in america, I also posted this on my blog, but with extra comments, www.opentopix.com/topic/movies/20-most-anticipa...

    ..
How is a movie based on a cartoon from the 60's a way to discourage children from taking care of the environment?
I bet they drive cars in Batman, Cloverfield ect.
I just don't see .. where you are coming from here.. I'm pretty sure the movie isn't going to have a huge impact on your ozone. You'll be fine.
  • Morgan · 1 year ago
Most of this list I find to be correct; however, you have Chronicles of Narnia, Sex and the City, and Harold and Kumar but no Harry Potter? Whether or not people want to admit it, Harry Potter is a huge film (series). Just because it's into its 6th film doesn't mean no one is waiting to see it. I find it extremely vexing that people never put Harry Potter onto their "Top Movies in 2008" lists. There's an insane bias.
  • Anna · 1 year ago
Um... how about Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince? November 2008, baby! Seriously. How did that not make a list of top 20? Does it just go without saying?
  • Neil Miller · 1 year ago
In response to the Harry Potter questions -- I guess it just slipped through the cracks.

Are we really supposed to get all excited over the 6th film in the series? Don't get me wrong -- I'm not saying that it will not be good and I am certainly not saying that I don't enjoy the Potter flicks -- I just don't know if that is high up there in the minds of movie fans. About a month before it comes out people will be like "Oh yeah, a new Harry Potter movie is coming out..." And it will make bank at the box office, but I don't think it deserved to really be on this list.

Then again, I could be wrong -- I usually am. Just ask my ex-girlfriend.

Christian Bale is the man Tom Cruise wants to be. Besides making the only Batman I've really liked, he's just a little Psycho- which is always interesting!
  • Peter Revill · 1 year ago
    Shaplowski

You are insane.. Causes cancer.. We are not even sure WHAT causes cancer mate.. and scientific consensus despite what you have heard can NOT confirm we are causing global warming,

The number one producer of C02 by the way is NOT cars, i know youve got a little hyundia excel and thus must berate anyone like myself who loves fast cars, but the number one producer of C02 (which, apparnetly causes global warming although as i said, this has not been confirmed) is actually coal power plants mate. Better turn off your PC there hey.. but you know what i think the combined energy of you turning off your pc thereby not polluting the internet with misinformation will CURE cancer! (look i can make sweeping generalizations too)

    Cheers
    Pete

Pretty good list, but I think #6 and the three comic book movies should all be be much higher numbers on the list (in the teens), and the new Bond movie should be in the top five. New Indiana Jones movie seems like an obvious #1 spot to me.
  • Bob · 1 year ago
Oh, I get it, its not about what movies will be good...It's just about what movies are going to make the most money.
  • Neil Miller · 1 year ago
Bob -- I didn't necessarily say they were all going to be good. You are right... It is more
about what is most popular going into the New Year. Thus, what will make the most money
    -- maybe.

I disagree with "Get Smart." Looks really dumb. Just my 2 cents.
  • Shaplowski · 1 year ago
    Mr. Miller,
I'm totally aware of the Tesla electric roadster. Hopefullly, they'll produce are more price friendly family version. I'd buy one up in a snap for 15 grand easily. Also, rebellious children are the products of their parents poor upbringing, My children, all 5 of them are not rebellious, they are all Mentally gifted children and all but one has passed 2 grades at our Public Elementary School. You have to present children with good role models, and new ways of looking at the world. In order to find solutions to problems us adults have created and perpetuate throughout history, like for instance, WAR, and GREED, etc,... oh this list can go on and on. I believe if we teach our children to care for this Planet like the Hopi Indians had, then perhaps we can create a better world. Much better than what a race car driving mentally can ever create.

Thank you, but no thanks, I'll never cater to the "Speed Racer" mentality that the Wachowski's are pushing through this movie.
  • Shaplowski · 1 year ago
    Peter Revill,
Hahaha, your funny but so mis-informed and brainwashed by mainstream media. Yeah, and Mainstream doctors have a cure for Cancer. LOL GET IT !

The problem with people like you, is that you cannot see past your own critique, open your mind. Think awhile before responding to my comments. I've done my research thoroughly from Organizations that aren't being paid off by the Automobile Industry or entities of a special Interest. I love fast cars too, but not stupid Gas guzzling automobiles.
  • Shaplowski · 1 year ago
    Hannah and all else,
The Movie is promoting a "sport" that has thrived off the sales of Gasoline and other Industries that support our dependence on this energy source. When children look at race car driving as fun, fast cars as "fun", when we have more dire circumstances at stake surrounding such a sport, then we're teaching them to be unaware of the environment in lieu of "exciting" fast and faster vehicles. whoopie tee doo. Its ridiculous, seriously, there's nothing to debate; we need to clean our environment, and stop our dependence on a dirty energy source.

Try jogging next to a race car event, yes, breath in those fumes and after several years of this get your lungs checked. Come on people? why do you defend the most obvious detriment of a clean environment.

Think about it next time your stuck in traffic. LOL
  • Fastisio · 1 year ago
I seriously think that guy is a troll. If not, he's just extremely ignorant (no matter how open minded he says he is, or she is, or whichever one it is). I believe that global warming exists, and all that, but this guy is nuts. Let's forget he said any of that, and get back to the list >_>. I look forward to most of these movies, nice list Neil! Though I agree, the HP movie should be in there.
  • Apex · 1 year ago
First, nice list. I didn't know about some of these movies and now, I too, am looking forward to seeing them.

    Now for the rant.

    Shaplowski,

Your response to peter revill makes me laugh. He presented a valid argument and you dismissed him by personally attacking him. Since you used the weakest form of argument I should just dissmiss you as the pathetic troll you are but since I am bored, here we go:

You think it is hard to breath next to a race track? Try breathing in the 1800 MW coal burning power plant I work at in Pennsylvania. Walk through the coal pulverizer elevation beneath the 4 story tall boiler, where coal fly ash is built up 3-6 inches deep, and tell me more about the damage the little 0.7 MW (~1000hp) motors in race cars are doing the environment. The oil industry needed a fall guy for global warming and they picked cars since they are the only thing that can receive "green face lifts" and still be profitable for them. Think about it...a car is changed to electricity and they can still sell it for the same profit they make now. Changing the power infrastructure of the US would be a massive undertaking costing most energy firms billions and possibly destroying some of them. The scape goat THEY picked was the car and people like you buy it hook line and sinker. You want to save the environment? Then take your house off the grid. Put up solar panels with battery back up so that you draw 0 current from power plants. Then you can talk about cars.

And lastly. The fake kids you made up in one of your responses...they sound fake, try harder next time.
  • j laux · 1 year ago
this just in, big monsters attacking a city is detrimental to the environment, dont see cloverfield, thank you for letting me see the light Shaplowski
  • Alec · 1 year ago
Shaplowski: So, wait, you said that all of your children except one has passed two grades?
What, do they have the minds of second graders, then?
Also, I don't see any Hopi Indians around anymore, and don't say it was because the ones who hated the environment came and killed them.

Cars aren't bad. There's nothing wrong with them.
Go to a city and look at the smokestacks pumping out tons of CO, then complain about cars. Or go to where Apex suggested.
  • Dan Mayer · 1 year ago
Nice list I particularly like the comments in "The Buzz", which is cool, gives some insight. I don't agree with your whole list, but I dig it. Anyways, here is my personal list

    1. The Dark Knight
    2. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
    3. Speed Racer
    4. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
    5. Bond 22

Another cool list of the most anticipated movies of 2008, where you can check out a merge of a ton of the lists people have put on the net and see how they compare. You can also filter it by comedy or other genres which is cool.

Bill Mahr? Its strange, Ann Coulter can call the media out for using an anti-war group presented as "9/11 widows" to portray as the consensus of public opinion she gets called heartless all over the place. Bill Mahr can dress up as corpse of sting ray impaled Steve Irwin in a public Halloween party and its "everyone's become so sensitive."

Fact is, Bill Mahr's show isn't that popular - its a prep show for taxi cab confessions, cathouse, or whatever other late night FRIDAY evening soft core porn a puberty stricken kid can get off to assuring him that although only in his teens his mind is no more sheltered or underdeveloped than some of hollywood's most notable liberal elite.

    Sin City 2
  • Jayne · 1 year ago
    Of course TDK is #1.

It's going to be too damn good.
    Maggie G's hideous face aside.
  • Peter Boyle (not that one) · 1 year ago
Jayne, I happen to like Maggie Gyllenhaal. I mean, have you ever seen Secretary?

I can't wait for these movies to start hitting. I have a feeling I'll be eating a lot of popcorn this year.

Shaplowski (sorry, but I can't not say anything): three things. First, go learn something other than what the media and your friends tell you. Come on, you're already on the internet, you're a google or a wiki away from actually knowing something except for being a little parrot. If you did make an attempt to educate yourself instead of chastise others, you'd know what you've been hearing on this thread; Big Oil made the automotive industry a scapegoat, and that coal is one of (if not the) main offenders. Next, if you're not going to debate/argue intelligently, than don't even bother; a well-constructed argument will at least get people to listen even if they don't agree, but fallacies just get you written off immediately as someone completely unconcerned with reaching an understanding and that you're simply spouting your agenda without a care for truth. Thirdly, IT'S A MOVIE. OH MY GOD. should we call up every single media provider depicting automobiles at all and tell them that they're going to destroy the world? no. Cars aren't completely awful, and some people have to use them to get somewhere. we can't all just hop on bicycles or buses all the time. This movie is going to depict driving, a very common and almost-universal practice among Americans and people in general. Get over it. Ragnarok or Rapture (depending on what you believe) isn't going to happen on May 9 just because of a movie (in which, incidentally, most cars are CG'd). Please, take your flaming unfounded naturalist beliefs somewhere where they're not pointless. Or better yet, b**** and moan about something that's really important. Genocide, anyone? 500,000 people have died and you're worried about CO2. get your god-d***ed priorities straight.

Phew. I need a hand massage.

It wasn't until I saw a couple images of Ledger as the Joker that I started to come around. I can't wait for The Dark Knight now that I've seen some footage of him. I also can't wait for the Rogen/Smith movie. I read in an interview that when Rogen showed up to HOllywood and met with his agent the first time, he said he wanted to do a Kevin Smith movie.
  • Raj · 1 year ago
Excellent list but I would also include The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Fincher and Pitt re-reteaming? And for a great story as well? Sounds pretty great to me.
  • Jenny · 1 year ago
I can't wait to see Wall*E. I'm gonna hope they put it into the family morning thing at our theatre so that I can take my son to see it.
  • Ethan · 1 year ago
How could you leave off John Rambo? Put it at #1 and bump them all down.
  • Dark Knight · 1 year ago
Great list indeed, love the #1 and #2 spots. The Dark Knight as #1 definitely make sense, Christian Bale and The Joker will not be disappointing as Spiderman 3.

Indiana Jones is going to be great as usual, you can't go wrong with Spielberg and Harrison Ford.

Speed Racer is very original, can't judge before watching it. I will definitely see at least 18 of the 20 films, not so sure about Sex and The City, what else can they add, better sex scenes? Hope there isn't just 20 movies in 2008, the writer strike should end very soon, otherwise we will be left without movies.
