  • kath · 6 months ago
    same here ryan,.:)
  • PaulSileo · 6 months ago
I give this list two thumbs WAY up.
  • Carry · 6 months ago
Saw "The Brothers Bloom" in Boston and great. Rachel Weisz is magic in this film, one of her best performances ever and she literally steals the movie.
  • Josh_Radde · 6 months ago
Literally? She stole the print from the screening you went to? THIEF!
  • Cole_Abaius · 6 months ago
Once again, Radde's distaste for misuses of the word 'literally' commands him to literally* lash out against a commenter.

    *not literally

I don't want to see GI Joe or Transformers, but everything else looks like something i at least want to try to check out. I'm especially stroked about Up, Moon, and Funny People.
  • SmallTownCritic · 6 months ago
Not including "Wolverine" eh? That was a smart move. I WAS so looking forward to it, but it turned out extremely disappointing. I'm strangely more excited about "Moon" than any others. Looks trippy and suspenseful.
  • Cole_Abaius · 6 months ago
    Moon....is incredible.
  • Jonathan E.Y.D · 6 months ago
Yes, Wolverine is dog sh!t... I will have to look into moon.... Cheers
  • Kangaroo Be Stoned · 6 months ago
I'll be skipping Up (I don't like Pixar), Funny People (I don't like Apatow), and G.I. Joe. I want to see The Boat That Rocked because the director did Love Actually, my favorite romcom.
  • Loukas · 6 months ago
    I can't wait.
  • curt · 6 months ago
minus star trek, terminator salvation, transformers and gi joe
  • EnlightenedOne · 6 months ago
You're picking "The Brothers Bloom" over "Angels & Demons" on May 15th? You're out of your mind!
  • Jonathan E.Y.D · 6 months ago
I'm with you on that one....
  • Soelvi - CPH · 6 months ago
I saw Moon two weeks ago in Copenhagen, Denmark on the danish movie festival CPH:PIX.
Duncan Jones was even there for an Q&A afterwards.

The movie was fantastic - Sam Rockwell was fantastic and it even looks great considering it's a sci-fi movie with a $ 5.000.000 budget according to Duncan. :) It should be on the top of your list.
  • Aleric · 6 months ago
Ehh, I agree with half of the movies on the list.
  • LnM · 6 months ago
What about Extract? The man who made office space can't go wrong when he throws Jason Bateman into the mix imho
  • B RI · 6 months ago
C'mon man G.I. Joe? It looks absolutely terrible. Aside from Joseph Gordon-Levitt, why would you even want to see this turd?
  • PaulSileo · 6 months ago
I'm with you, but I'll still see it, because I'm an idiot who hates his money.
  • MoMo · 6 months ago
some movies are just so insanely bad and ill-concieved that they must be seen. i feel like GI Joe is one of those movies.
  • KC Masterpiece · 6 months ago
I am feeling into EVERYTHING on this list and here is why. Half of them are going to be movies that anybody will enjoy, and possibly want to see if they have no predisposition, (Funny People, Up, Terminator Salvation, Star Trek) and then half are artsy things that you kind of need to go out on a limb if you aren't cinematically savvy (Moon, The Hurt Locker, The Boat that Rocked) I figure I can drag my family to the artsy ones and let them take me to the...safer ones.

In the end they will thank me.

No love for Where the Wild Things Are?
  • skippy · 6 months ago
    it's a Fall 2009 movie, not Summer
  • Oscar P. · 6 months ago
    Ah, my mistake.
  • Ron Preston · 6 months ago
    first time great start
  • Battlepancake · 6 months ago
Why would you actually spoil Moon in the post?

If I hadn't seen it i would be irritated. I'd recommend changing that description at least a little bit... Since it, you know, ruins one of the twists.
  • Grammar Nazi · 6 months ago
"It tells the story of a father (Robin Williams) who’s son is killed in a freak masturbation accident."
"who's" is the contraction for "who is". You meant "whose son... "

The boat that rocked has an awesome soundtrack but the humour is mediocre at best and it contains a sequence of attempted rape that really shocked me. I accept that pirate radio in the 60's was male dominated and a film set on a pirate radio ship shouldn't bypass the sexism that would have been a part of the whole scene, however such behaviour should be treated ironically and not normalised. The movie validated the attempted rape of one of the dj's girlfriend's (disturbingly with the consent of the dj) and even expects the audience to find it funny, and it just isn't.
  • Rusty · 6 months ago
I have seen The Boat that Rocked twice at the cinema now, and have still not managed to see hide nor hair of this 'attempted rape' scene you speak of...

As far as I could see, every act of sexual deviance in the movie, was entirely consensual, and had you listened to the dialogue closely, this fact would have been blindingly apparent.
  • Stumbling guest · 6 months ago
I was referring to the scene in which Nicks Frost's character conspires to trick his girlfriend into having sex with someone else without her consent or knowledge. This constitutes attempted rape.
  • Simon · 6 months ago
The Boat That Rocked came out on 01 April here in the UK.

    Great film.
  • Honey Singh · 6 months ago
Thanks for presenting the nice facts and information.
I'll wait for these movies. :P
  • trench · 6 months ago
Great List. I'd add Angels and Demons to it though... Can't wait for Transformers and GI JOE! Im such an 80's geek!
  • Potatoesgod · 6 months ago
I really recommend you add "Where the wild things are" I feel that movie should be one of the best movies of the year. Here's a link to the trailer.

  • skippy · 6 months ago
yeah, except that it comes out in the Fall, and this is a Summer movie list...
  • HBomb · 6 months ago
To be fair these are supposed to be Summer movies and October is the release month for "Where Rhe Wild Things Are" making it more of a fall film than a Summer.

    /splitting hairs
  • MrDeath · 6 months ago
    No Ponyo on the Cliff?
  • Jonathan E.Y.D · 6 months ago
Looks like it should make for a great summer of movies. I can't wait for Transformers and I am optomistic about Star Trek knowing the it will be a JJ Abrams flick. And of course Tarantino is always the chose one. Peace out....

Thanks for the inspiring bit of anticipation

    Jonathan

I recently saw (500) Days of Summer at a film festival, and while it was an EXTREMELY good movie, I don't know if I'd call it a date movie....As suggested by the trailer, it's not a love story, but a story about love. I might be the only one, but if my date took me to see it, I'd feel a little down afterwards...I'm glad you thought it merited a mention, though, as it is my favorite movie of 2009 to date.
  • stumbling guest · 6 months ago
I was referring to the scene in which Nick Frosts character conspires to trick his girlfriend into having sex with someone else without her consent or knowledge - this is rape - look it up.
  • progressive bill · 6 months ago
I was really looking forward to The Boat That Rocked, it should have been awesome and seemed to have everything going for it. I was really disappointed by it though, the humour was trite at best. It was one of those movies where the actors seem to be having tons of fun while the audience is kind of bored. I also was taken aback by the attempted rape (as pointed out by a previous poster). Offering your girlfriend up as a vessel to take someone's virginity without her consent is creepy and sick, definitely not funny.
  • Rei · 6 months ago
The boat that rocked has been out here since like feb or something!
Didn't bother to go see it, looked pretty boring.

Can't wait for star trek!! :D

  • BestListingz.com · 6 months ago
Great List ! Star Trek, Terminator, Transformers and GI Joe are at the top of my list. It's going to be a good Summer.
  • Cyclonus · 6 months ago
I only want to see 6 of them. Hope the G.I. Joe movie won't be as bad as the Dragon Ball one.
  • Richard · 6 months ago
"Sandler is one of those actors whom I wish would take meatier roles." I appreciate the use of "whom" which is on the endangered species list but in this case "who" would be correct. The object of the phrase "I wish" is not "whom" but the clause "who would take on meatier roles" and "who" is the subject of that clause. You wouldn't say "I wish him would take on meatier roles." By the way, I'm in agreement with you about Sandler. He's a much better actor than most of the roles he's played.

I've seen Star Trek and Terminator. Both awesome films but I prefer Terminator of the two. I'll be getitng the DVD of each though. Another trailer I saw was for Year 1. Its a comedy with Jack Black. Looked very funny!

seriously? no district 9 that was by far the best movie of the summer in fact its likely one of the best of the decade. public enemies had great potential but after the first hour and a half i just wanted it to end for some reason. tahts not a quality of a great movie. bruno was great and transformers and terminator salvation were pretty cool too. ok list i suppose
