Twilight Saga: New Moon Sets Records, Hauls in $140 million
hoping for the best. And maybe Keanu Reeves stiff acting will actually be an asset for once!
it won't be. from the clips i can pretty much see that yeah it was great in theory and all, but
in execution, stiff acting does not = alien, stiff acting just = keanu reeves.
but beyond that, the film looked decent
I won't disrespect it's popularity, but I don't think that makes it a must see movie in the slightest. Unless I guess you want to have a conversation with people who will talk of nothing else.
1) Home movie? More like Boring Movie.
2) Looking forward to it? More like not looking forward to it.
3) Did you get Mapplethorpe to be the cinematographer?
4) Looking forward to it? More like looking forward to it...not!
I have a million of 'em. Not really. I only have four.
And stop pretending you didn't have to google "Mapplethorpe."
Also, don't google "Mapplethorpe" without your safesearch on.
You might be right -- because I knew that 9 and 10 were either going to work with people or they weren't. Ultimately though, I would contend that they are worth seeing. Not saying they will be good, but they are movies that will be important, should you be one of those people who likes to talk about the best and worst and most interesting movies of the year with other people...
Some I'm interested in that you left out: Rachel Getting Married (Demme), Changeling (Eastwood), Soloist (Wright), Australia (Luhrmann), Milk (Van Sant), Defiance (Zwick), The Brothers Bloom (Johnson), Seven Pounds (Muccino), Revolutionary Road (Mendes)
But you got No. 1 right. I'm totally stoked for 007

Absurd.
Second, I disagree about Twilight. Especially the "the book is actually pretty good," part.
You should jot down some of suggestions in the comment section, too. It'll give you 10 more flicks to see. Always nice.
@ Nate
Excellent list. Brothers Bloom won't come out until January 09, but everything else on your list is solid.
Also, I find it interesting in an election year that no one is mentioning An American Carol or Religulous or W. Not that they are going to be must-see. They'll more than likely be something to avoid, but it's still interesting that everyone seems to agree on that. We do all agree that watching Elizabeth Banks make a Porno is more awesome than watching her play Laura Bush, right?
Danny Boyle's stunning Slumdog Millionaire. Absolutely amazing movie that won the Toronto Film Fest.
Honestly. It's Good story!!
As far as everything else on this list, I'd have to say The Spirit looks like crap, but you've already realized that. As far the best on the list, I'd probably go with Zack and Miri. Most of Kevin James' movies do well and are pretty entertaining, and as far as Seth Rogen goes he could take a dump on camera and get critical praise at this point. Most interesting looks like Benjamin Button, however, the writers could easily pull a cop out safety choice on the story. This seems a little less likely with this one, due to how obscure the movie seems, but Hollywood can pull a lot of stuff off.
Most of the movies on this list however, are definitely on mine.
I think you mean Kevin Smith, but I agree with you otherwise.. I've defnitely been looking forward to this movie for a long time.
Come on, that movie looks as campy as big-screen films can get. Did you see those cheesy effects and lame line reading from the clip they showed on the MTV Awards? There's over 10 other remaining films for the rest of the year that look better than that like Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Secret Life of Bees, Australia, Day The Earth Stood Still, Yes Man, Bedtime Stories, Max Payne or Bolt.
Looks incredible.
Also I wish they'd make a film of the John Ward Fate of the Stone series. Anyone who hasn't read them should check them out. Slow at first but they truly are amazing.
A) Yes- twilight sucked AS A BOOK. The writing was awful, i mean, really bad and the fact that is was written by a Mormon, i couldn't help but wonder about her religion influencing the book. The fact that people are so obsessed it made me embarrassed to be seen reading it, but it was like a drug. So fingers crossed that the movie is better because I really enjoyed the first book because the love story is actually really amazing if you can look past everything else
B) I would go see Quantum of Solace simply because of the hilariously awesome poster with Craig with a giant gun and a goofy grin
- izi
A man and his kid wander around a dreary post-apocalyptic set for an hour and a half? sounds kind of boring.
The ending of the book did nothing for me. There were so many questions left unanswered, one of the most predominant being "What the hell happened to the world?"
Twilight also looks to be no good.
The romance in it creeps me out. Edward is over 100 years old. Does nobody else see that? He's over 100! Isabella is barely legal. That's not love. The only reason Bella loves Eddie is because he's so hot and the only reason he loves her is because she smells tasty. They have nothing else in common. There is no character interaction it's just meandering drivel expressing how much they are attracted to each other. Did I mention that he's over 100 while she's 18?
Really, that's like dating your grandfather, or your great-grandfather in some cases.
He's over 100.
Anyhoo, I hope some of the movies at the end of the year will be 150% better then ones from earlier on. What is happening to Hollywood?
Anyways, I would agree with Quantum of Solace, Zack and Miri, Body of Lies, and possibly Choke. Rocknrolla and Benjamin Button I hadn't heard of before this, but from the description seem like they could have potential. I'm really surprised Max Payne isn't on the list, as I've seen a few people mention. It looks great, the trailer's definitely have me pumped for it, and I generally enjoy most of the things the cast of Max Payne have previously done. The only one I'm slightly curious on performance-wise is Mila Kunis as Mona Sax. We'll have to wait and see, as it's only like 3 or so weeks till it comes out.
I think that The Road looks like it has potential. Zack and Miri Make a Porno just looks stupid.
Honestly, guys!! Books don't gain that much of a following unless there's some good content! And notice its definitely NOT only pre-teens who are reading it.
I'm really looking forward to the film, and I love all the actors that have been cast. I'm actually excited! I'm looking forward to Quantom of Solace too!
Quantum of Solace, Zack and Miri, RockNRolla and Choke look real good, but i really want to watch Benjamin Button and the Road. Both look extremely good, particularly the Road, which is strikingly similar to the book, judging by the pictures
cause once all those movies come out Twilight is going to move up to number 1 spot..
think about it..
all the rest of the movies up there are for mostly adults..
while Twilight has kids teenagers adults and young adults and even guys who love
twilight. MUCH bigger group of fans. Twilight is going to make a lot more money and sell
a lot more tickets. Probrably even more than Quantom of Solace, and the 007 movies are
REALLY good.
P.S. It also has a things for everybody..
-Romance
-Suspense
-Horror
-Action
and even a little bit of blood and gore.
It's going to be a FANTASTIC movie.
OH, and for all the people who say they HATE Twilight and all that it might help if you
READ the book first. If you have that's fine because everyone has a right to speak their
own opinion.
I meant Quantum of Solace
My bads =P
I think everyone has the right to their own opinion, obviously. Yes, maybe you don't like the book, maybe you thought it was cliche and kiddish, too unrealistic, maybe a bit too "lovey-dovey" for your taste, but it's being unrealistic is just one of the reasons I love the book so much. It's a fantasy about love overcoming all obstacles, who wouldn't want that? (In their own lives of course.) And maybe some people are jealous of Bella, but only because they aren't lucky enough to have found their soul-mate yet. Yes, I am a teenager so my mind is probably not as developed as all of yours. There is, however, other people of different age groups who liked the novel. Mothers, grandmothers, adults, men (some not even gay if you were about to suggest that they are), and of course the rabid teenage fan, female (like me).
Though you do have a right to speak your thoughts, I think you should not criticize an author so harshly, do you even know what your criticizing? If you do, well go ahead, bash the thing all you want. But if you don't, you should really give it a chance. And for all of you "Twilighters" out there, don't be so rude to the people that didn't find the book as interesting as we have. No one thinks the same, so there is not ever going to be a day in which people agree completely.
I wish all the luck to the movies on the list and every other movie coming out in the last months of '08. Hopefully, everyone gets to watch whatever is of their own taste. So, enjoy the movies and stop arguing! (I mean that in the most friendly way possible.) =)
i cant wait to see the movie on theaters.
im sure that movie will be great.
Just bad movies...
the only one i like is Twilight. The others are garbage
Twilight 4ever!
Twilight. Where to begin. I have to admit, I liked the book and I'm fairly excited about the movie coming this November. I can see why people worship it, but I can also see why people want to banish it to the farthest corners of the earth. It's not everyone's book - it doesn't have to be. It's more for daydreamers than it is for intellectuals.
But to say that the movie will be HORRIBLE because you read the book ONCE isn't sound judgment. Why? Well, all of your reasons for hating the book pertain to Meyer's writing style and commentary. Not the dialogue. Not the action. And THAT'S what a movie is composed of, not inner thinking or monologues. Watch the movie. If it's bad, then it's bad, but making extremely harsh and unnecessary pre-movie-comments are a little more than ridiculous right now, especially since the movie isn't coming out for a long time.
I love how they tell the people who have not read the books that they are stupid for insulting the books, and then go ahead and call the rest of the movies on the list 'stupid', even though none of those movies have come out yet.
I hope they all find an overly attractive man to control their lives, impregnate them, and then keep them locked up in the house where they neither go to college and get a job for the rest of their lives, existing only to make babies and be the WIFE.
Because that is what Ms. Isabella Cullen is doomed to do. For eternity.
Zack and Miri make a porno <-this title will attract people (wrong /right way)
And yea im a twilight fan, ofcourse ill go and see the movie!!
really liked the book a lot (no offense to the people who say its literally incorrect)
And some people here really need a break from the twilightserie (its NOT a drug)
it’s about."
Okay, I don't understand how people can make such a conclusion when they don't even
know what they're talking about. But at the same time, I don't understand how people
that love Twilight (which I do) can be like, "OMG IT'S AN AMAZING BOOK YOU SHOULD
READ IT OR ELSE YOU'RE AN IDIOT!" (which I don't)
It's a series of books. People are going to have opinions and feelings on it, just like with
anything else. That doesn't mean you have to shove the book down someone's throat.
And that also doesn't mean that you have to insult everyone and anyone that likes the
book.
But oh, well. What can I say? It's the internet. And people will say what they want to say
because there's something seriously wrong with the human race. People have lost all
respect for one another. No one cares anymore.
And I am a human being as well, so I think "The Road" would be a decent captivating movie, and I kinda also want to see based off the video game I've played, "Max Payne", it actually looks really good!!!
I'm not a teenager, and I thought the series in general were very good. I got into the books because of my sister, and yes, she is sixteen. It's not the most literary of works, but the story in general works.
Those that don't get Twilight, generally have not read it, are getting their opinions secondhand, from someone who has, or know very little about what makes a good love story. Sure, I was a bit turned off with Bella falling in love with her "grandpa" at first, but when you read the series as a whole it comes together. Also, the "young" fan base, is a bit crazed, and sometimes, that gives the whole series a bad name.
And contrary to what someone said, the relationship is not based on teeny-bop love. If you follow the rest of the books, you see how it actually develops. I personally prefer the second book in the series (New Moon) over Twilight. It's an obsessive, intense kind of love, that is seldom written about, much less understood/felt these days. Hence, why the majority of people do not "get it."
That is not to say, that the movie should be as great. We don't know how the actors will interpret the book, but one can only hope that it's not horrendous.
It's wrong to ciriticise it so harshly without actually viewing it. There is something out there for everyone.
Such as... Seth Rogen's movie, I could defintely do without that… it's about time someone pulls the plug on him. I'm sick of his vile humor, and crappy movies. Can I have my money back for "Pineapple Express?????" That movie was utterly pointless… One can only assume what this one will be.
With that said… I don't think I'll be seeing "RocknRolla." I love Gerard Butler, but I wish I could smack him for all the bad movie choices he's done since "300." Whatever happened to him choosing good roles?!?! Quantum looks great, I love Daniel and his movies in general, loved the first Bond movie, and I cannot wait to see him on the second installment. And I saw a preview for the Brad Pitt movie, this weekend and it looks VERY innovative. I'll have to watch that… I don't care how long it is. After all, I love Meet Joe Black, and that was also really long.
That's it… off my soap box :)
The Twilight issue.
I've read the book and yes, I liked it (19 year old non-gay guy here). It is nothing that hasn't been done before, but to make something good, you either make it orignal, or you do something cliched in an orignal manner. Meyer did the latter.
Twilight is unique in the sense how it describes Bella and Eddy's (sorry, couldn't resist) developing relationship. Therin lies the problem with the movie: you can't bring words to life easily. If the actors can't pull off what you imagined while reading the book, the movie is going to suck big-time. And considering what I've seen from the trailer, it's going to suck =p Then again, I could be wrong.
haha, so true. It's like a war between haters and lovers on here, and no one's ever going to win. Seriously, those who hate Twilight need to ease up. It's not your thing. We get it. I mean, I haven't even read the books, but that doesn't mean I'm going to condemn everyone who has. And those who love Twilight, props for the passion, but tone it down. Just because someone doesn't love it doesn't mean the movie will be canceled. Yeesh.
Anyway, moving on. I am really looking forward to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button! It's about time we had a moving so unique and thought-provoking - and the make-up/aging effects look surprisingly convincing! I just wonder how they're going to realistically portray a little kid to resemble the older man. It should be farther up on the list, in my opinion.
Zack and Miri Make a Porno...? Can that comedian do anything non-sex-oriented? I mean, Pineapple Express was pretty funny, and Superbad and Knocked Up weren't bad either, but his humor topics are getting a little overused. I'd like to see him try something outside that kind of genre.
And it's no surprise that Quantum of Solace is number one - I just hope it lives up to my very, very high expectations.
