An even more solid list would have included I Spit on Your Grave, but this one is pretty great. The Virgin Spring is an inspired choice, and I think people tend to forget that Ben Hur is a revenge film.
Would Spartacus be a revenge film too, maybe? Seems like there's a lot of Roman angst.
He then shoves money down the warden's throat before blasting him in the stomach with a twelve gauge.
And best of all, once out of prison he hunts down the jury, judge and DA that wrongfully imprisoned him.
Then cuts out his own tongue.
I agree with all the rest, keep it up.
"Let off some steam, Bennett. "
"I eat Green Berets for breakfast. And right now, I'm very hungry! "
"Don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired. "
"Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?"
"That's right, Matrix. You did."
"I lied."
"Right?"
"Wrong!" (Shotgun blast to face)

In doing so I find it actually appeals to genuine intellectuals and creatives in all walks of life. They people who don't feel it are those who are in the middle ground ....who neither enjoy the ride on a pure action basis, nor find it obviously 'clever'. They need to read some Shakespeare, I am afraid.
Dude, seriously. The Count of Monte Cristo is the ultimate revenge story of all time. The movie should at least deserve an honorable mention.
And how about Oldboy? Dogville?
Left disappointed.

V for Vendetta
Any revenge movies list without Oldboy in top place is idiotic.
Have not seen Oldboy but when I Googled it, the second hit was an IMDB reference to an American version due out in 2010, starring Will Smith and directed and/or produced by Steven Spielberg. 'Nuff said (sigh).
As for the other choices, I guess it depends on what you define as a revenge film. I think some of the choices and suggestions are too broad in scope; I like the idea of it being one person seeking pesonal, one-on-one revenge, a la Death Wish. Death Wish was (and is) a terrific social commentary on vigilantism in an era when people fely increasingly overwhelmed and powerless in the face of rising crime and decaying cities.
:D
And for full-on-single-minded-overtake-every-facet-of-the-main-characters-life type vengeance one need look no further then The Salton Sea.
What's missing here is BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF, which doesn't start off as a revenge story but sure as hell ends as one... and of course Park Chan-Wook's Vengeance trilogy. But if you think OLDBOY doesn't make the cut as one of the ten best revenge movies of all time, and somehow BEN-HUR does, then you're only discrediting yourself.
Thank you.
