Film School Rejects: Ten People to Watch in 2009

Emily Mortimer was hilarious on "30 ROCK", and Anna Kendrick was great in the sadly underrated "Rocket Science", which was one of my favorites of 2007. 2009 is looking to be pretty great.

I dunno if I'll be watching Chris Pine beyond the two hours of the movie, though.

You completely forgot about Zoe Saldana who's starring in both Star Trek and Avatar.

No, I didn't forget Zoe Saldana, Chris. When you have 10 slots to choose people you can only pick so many. But thanks for including her in the comments. :)

Actually you had 13 spots if your Honorable Mention category. She's going to be in the 2 biggest films being released next year, but I guess brown people still count for 3/5th.

Oh goodness, here we go. Chris, please leave the race card at home. I didn't create this list with the intention of excluding African-Americans. So, with all due respect, please take the Malcolm X DVD out of your player and lighten up. After that go to the archives and check out my blast on M. Night Shyamalan's casting choices for Avatar: The Last Airbender.

What's funny is that I had a feeling this was where you were going with your initial comment. However, maybe we should we count responses that are unchecked and inflammatory as only 3/5th of the normal reader's. Relax, Chris. There are no white supremacists here.

Since you've mentioned McCarthy and The Road, I will admit to having a spectacular crush on Garret Dillahunt. (Spectacular enough to put his upcoming films on my Google alerts and land here looking for a release date.) I can't remember ever having this much fun discovering an actor. He just rocks.

Emily Mortimer goes all the way back to Disney's The Kid. Bruce Willis, Lilly Tomlin, Spencer Breslin Chee Mc Bride.
  • Adam_Sweeney · 10 months ago
Yes, she has a relatively long career, but this isn't about who is unknown. It is about people who will have an impact on 2009. ;) And her career goes way past "The Kid." Try 6 years back if you count television appearances.

Ben Barnes sucked in Prince Caspian. Talk about wooden as an actor...

Adam it's great [you've added Malin Akerman not only she is cute as a button and bubbly (kinda reminds me of Cameron Diaz) she is overshuned by other stars on her movies I think its time for her shine in Watchmen and I can't wait for her to come up with other roles as well. Camilla Belle was awesome in When a Stranger Calls but so-so in 10,00 B.C. I hope she shows us some more stuff this year in PUSH. Ben Barnes is HOT!!! Can't wait to see him in Dorian Gray he would be good for that role.
  • Adam_Sweeney · 10 months ago
Yeah, a cuter Cameron Diaz is a great description of Malin Akerman. Good call.
  • david · 10 months ago
you forgot to mention David A Lockhart, who will be starring in the new epic " Wardog" winter 2009
  • Adam_Sweeney · 10 months ago
There are likely many people I "forgot" to mention. As said before, I could only add so many people. Sorry to you and Mr. Lockhart.
  • Kevin_Carr · 10 months ago
Ummmmmmm. Malin Akerman? Sure, she's hot, and she's lucked into some choice roles (dare I say "Watchmen"), but she's a godawful actress. She's the female Luke Wilson, only not as warm and fuzzy.
  • Adam_Sweeney · 10 months ago
Luck or not, she's definitely someone that will make an impact in 2009. Si? And Luke Wilson has been in some decent films himself. If only we could be so lucky. I don't think you have to be the acting messiah to be important. Look at Tom Cruise. Or don't. I try not to.

    Malin Akerman, pretty girl!

One more thought. Star Trek is not one of the 2 biggest films being released next year. I am going to assume that Watchmen holds one of the top two spots. Maybe I just didn't want to spend every spot focusing on Avatar and Star Trek. ;)
