This is why I love this place! Great list .. Makes me proud I've seen 3 of them + gives me scope to put stuff on my rental list that I'm not disappointed by when it comes through the door.

I though The Nines was pretty amazing too, but US releas-wise I guess that falls under 2007 :)

A solid list - The Promotion is an excellent movie. Seann William Scott is really surprising in it. The whole thing plays like a lighter version of House of Sand and Fog - basically two decent guys with families and dreams fighting over a position that only one of them can have.

I second The Nines - it was released in August of 2007, though, but it needs more mention everywhere. August is my favorite screenwriter, and he makes the jump to director really well. Plus, Ryan Reynolds is solid in it.

My one dissent - Smart People. That movie was the most banal, hipper-than-thou boredom festival I've seen in a while.

I went to see semi pro and couldn't get in because I was underage even though I had
tickets so my friends and I snuck into Charlie Bartlett. Great movie and way funnier
    than semi pro

Just saw Smart People, great film. Hilary Duff sticking a scorpion down her pants? Damn it, Hollywood! Get out of my mind!

Seriously though, why do once pure pop stars feel the need to push the envelope? Go to college for liberation.
