Film School Rejects: Superhero Movies: Where Does Iron Man Rank?

  • JMoney · 1 year ago
I think the fact that you've just watched Iron Man is clouding your judgement. You seem really in love with this movie, which is good. but you might be holding up too high because it is so fresh in your mind.

also, its Christopher Reeves, not Reed

I completely agree, I really hated the entire spiderman series really just seemed like they always wanted to take the whole series and make it into a 2hr movie.

    blah.

    Ironman rocks, so does batman.

I continue to maintain that Burton's 1989 Batman is the finest of all time. I will be ecstatic if Iron Man can equal it.

Robert, I'm surprised you have X-Men on here and not X2. Like Spider-man 2, I thought X2 was a far superior sequel and I think it has the best action sequences of the bunch. Iron Man was pretty sweet, but I have to admit I didn't go for the climatic battle at the end. It definitely wasn't as good as everything that came before it.

    My List
    1. Batman Begins
    2. Spider-man 2
    3. X2
    4. Iron Man
    5. Daredevil

How did you forget Sin City? It wasn't corny, had interesting shots, acting, etc, AND was incredibly faithful to the source material.

i'm sorry but i just got home from iron man, and although good, it doesn't hold a candle to batman begins. And dark knight will shit on both :)

Looks like it only focused on Super Hero movies, not just comic movies. Generally agree with all the reviews of the other films, though I love Batman Begins a shit ton and aren't seeing Iron Man til Sunday.

Did you not say Superman has an edge over Iron Man. There fore Superman WINS!!!

i saw iron man last night, it was good but really i didnt get that "epic" feel from it. Robert Downeu JR was made for that role though

Of course you left Tank Girl off the list, simpleton. Oh, and I heard you got to see Iron Man early at some special event.

    You're welcome.

    Howard The Duck anyone?

JMoney - Yes, I realize it is very fresh in my mind. Though I did recently rewatch almost all of the films on this list, as well. I'm seeing Iron Man again this weekend and will update my thoughts here if they change.

As for Sin City, we stayed with "Super Heroes" instead of just comic movies. Personally I'm a big fan of Sin City and The Punisher, both of which weren't eligible for this.

Cole - Tank Girl had talking Kangaroos. Nuff said.

Iron Man is awesome. See it.

Robert, while the movies you chose were entertaining, my list of all time best is as follows:

    3. Captain America
    2. TMNT 3
    1. Superman IV
  • Robert Fure · 1 year ago
Ooo, Poop C, you love the America Cycle too? Nice.

    uh... what about Man-Thing?

I'm just going to wait for Ant-Man. Wright will do it just.
  • Robert Fure · 1 year ago
I thought Man-Thing was pretty good for a straight to Sci-Fi feature.

Enjoy this list immensely (so did my fiancee who laughed at my intense reading). My favorites are:

    1) Constantine (so dark and great detail to directing, plot, imagery)
    2) Iron Man (picture perfect acting and plot detail)
    3) Batman Begins (great modernization and imagery)
    4) Batman (Jack)
    5) X Men (this movie made all the current crop viable)

    99) Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer

What about Superman 2? How could anyone forget that one! One of the best super-hero vs super-villian(s) fight scenes ever filmed.

Really, that whole article comes off as a fanboy whining about how Iron Man is better than all other superheroes, then getting to Batman and realising that, actually, he isn't. You've ignored the critical elements of X-Men, Spiderman 2 and Batman Begins which make them superior to Iron Man, but Iron Man is the flavor of the month, so let's plug him. You've judged each of the films by Iron Man's standards, not on their own terms, and that's a rookie mistake. Poor journalism.

Also, Fantastic Four - "not bad" - I think not.
