Film School Rejects: Sunshine

My god, "2001" and "sucks" do not belong in the same sentence. Maybe "2010" but not "2001". I can understand if you don't have the patience for the pace of the movie or its vagueness (being in altered states yourself probably helps with that when watching the movie) but it is a great and seminal piece of work. That said, after your entry I'm moving Sunshine up to the top of my Netflix cue.

2001 just isn't my cup of tea, and when I first watched I was probably like 16 or 18, which is not an age where I could appreciate anything without boobs or explosions. I enjoyed HAL, but the movie lost me at the end wit the kaladeiscope vision that I didn't enjoy at all. Now 2010 had Roy Schreider, so I will speak no ills about it!!

But regardless of my opinion on 2001, I did really enjoy Sunshine and it mixed beauty, message, action, and tension well. Glad you're going to look into it!

I loved this right up to the ending...the ending is AWFUL. One of the worst ever, in my opinion, because it wrecks what was otherwise a very solid flick. And 2001 made you want to slit your wrists? Whaaaat? I guess that's just like, your opinion, man, but GAAAWD.

I didn't like the ending the first time I saw the film but on multiple viewings, I've come to dislike it a fair bit less and though it still doesn't work for me, it doesn't seem so out of place anymore. As for the visuals - I'm tempted to upgrade to HD just to see this in super sharp beautiful picture.
