Film School Rejects: Sundance Review: ‘Funny Games’ Delivers Shock and Yawn

don't you mean "you can count me among the latter" in the last sentence since you seem to be angry and gave the film a D? I'm just guessing it was a typo.

That's a totally good point. The guy is IN the movie - how can someone IN the movie control whether the movie rewinds or not? Answer: they can't! Thank you for pointing out that glaring mistake. If only the producers of the film had caught it in time.

Well, this review sucks as much as the movie probably does. Check your own closing and you'll find as little coherence as is in the film, loser reviewer.

Huh. I've only seen the original. I don't really understand why people get so up in arms about the rewind scene. I thought it was pretty cool. He did it for a reason, of course - he wanted to catch the audience out cheering at the killing, which they did. Because throughout, you're supposed to be upset about the violence and torture. Then he pulls the rug out from under you, just when you think there might be hope for at least one member of the family, by pulling the rewind. It wasn't specifically literal - the point is, you wanted it to happen, but he was not going to let it happen. The family is doomed from the moment they pull up to the house. There isn't meant to be any hope.

Now I didn't care for him purposely making horrible, brutal things happen and then turning around and indicting us for wanting to see brutal things happen. But that doesn't make the movie not worth watching, either. IMO.

i liked the movie. i don't care too much about the rewind scene and this critic needs to simmer down a little..... its just a movie................
get over it... I'm sure you could have done better.
    i know i couldn't.
i thought it had some really amazing points and some not as amazing but still good, just like any other movie. it had some amazing shots and it brought out the old intensity that movies have been missing for a long time.

i give it a B+ only as a viewer maybe not a critic.

I was not a big fan of the rewind seen either, but what I found more offensive was the scene in the kitchen, after the killers had left, where they went back and forth about drying the damn cell phone. But overall the film was fairly entertaining.
