Film School Rejects: Stephen King’s It Creeps Toward the Big Screen

hopefully it'll be better than the 1990 version!

The mini-series was pretty good for what it was... but there's no way a standard two-hour movie version can improve on it. So much will have to be cut that it'll end up being simply about a killer clown with very little back story.

Yeah, when I heard about this yesterday at first I was hopeful, 'cause the TV movie sucked great big hairy donkey balls if you'd read the book. The adults, while good, were wrong for those roles, and the space spider was soooo cheesy. Tim Curry really saved it. But the more I think about it, the less I like the idea of a full-length movie... like you said, there's just too much story that would have to be cut out. Not worth it.

Let the ever devolving ideas of the studios continue.

I once stood in a rain gutter in a clown suit waiting for a small boat to float down. I was there for hours. And no one even got it on tape. Also this remake is an outrage.

A remake of IT is SO unnecessary.. as are most remakes nowadays. I loved the TV movie! The commentaries on the DVD are downright hysterical in parts, with most of the credit going to John Ritter (RIP). I'm not a horror fan at all but I'd LOVE to see how the studios think they're going to best Tim Curry as Pennywise. In my mind, it's impossible. Just as pointless - the upcoming remake of CLUE. Lameosity across the board. Jerks.

He thrusts his fists against the post and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Is that you in there Bev, or is it the damn clown?!

I'm doing the mashed potatoes all over this thing AND I GOT A FUCKING BROKEN ARM!!!

    Yeah, I love that book.

I don't know what remake is more pointless the remake of this garb clown movie or escape from new york, but one thing is forsure they won't get my money.

    They ALL float.

I just want the ending of the movie fixed. That scorpion monster crab thing was awful. I loved the rest of the movie.

Yeah, with the tech they had available for a mid-level-budget TV movie, there was really no good way to convey just how awesomely scary the alien spider was supposed to be. Cheese and a half.

You can't go wrong with Tim Curry.

I am an avid Stephen King fan. Aside from the early books, they never translate to movies for me. You can not replicate the feelings evoked while reading his macabre masterpieces into a movie. Stephen makes you wonder just how f**ked up he could be if he was not a writer.

The last (drama) book they did an excellent job on was Misery. When they announced Kathy Bates and James Caan, I was actually salavating. Most will agree Kathy and James did not disappoint. I always say NO to a Stephen King film for that reason. No one has topped what Kubrick did with The Shinning. For every hit there are misses. I was horribly disappointed by Needful Things, even with the legendary Max Von Sydow as the devil. It's like watching a comedy turn into a tragedy. Sad, very very sad.

A-men, sister. Misery is one of my all-time favorite movies - and didn't Kathy Bates get an Oscar nom for that? The book is also my fave of King's, it inspired a lot of my own writing. Have to disagree with you on The Shining though - Kubrick made a damn fine movie, but he cut FAR too much of the story out. The nicest thing I've heard King say about it was that Kubrick had a vastly different vision of the story. Needful Things was bad, but The Tommyknockers made me want to projectile-vomit. Have you seen The Mist? I haven't gotten to read the story, but the movie was pretty good. Here's a scary thought: a Dark Tower movie. *shudder*

Now those are fighting words. God I hope he never sells the rights to that series.

    This will be awesome.

The 1990 series SUCKED soooo bad. You'll see that I'm right if you actually read the book.
I'm worried they won't do any better this time, but hey, let's give them a chance.
Not sure I'll see it in the theater, though.

It's like if they made Michael Jackson into a movie. I might go see it. Clowns suck.
