Film School Rejects: Star Trek Trailer Gets Smacked Around By Some Real Science

Who fucking cares? Lets get a good story and be happy with some spectacle, fuck being correct. Lets have some fun with this movie

Well, why are physics geeks trying to ruin a SCI-FI movie trailer?!?

I mean, if they want to do it correctly, they need to add in the fact that Kirk's velocity and acceleration is three-dimensional!

Did they do the same for the Dark Knight or IronMan? hmmmm?
  • Cole_Abaius · 10 months ago
Adam Weiner did the same thing when I showed him the video of me eating seven ice cream cones in under 15 minutes.

He still enjoyed the video, though.

are fucking kidding me? bringing science to a fictional movie......oh yea these guys are ever so smart

Alright look, they forgot two big problems. One, young Kirk is sliding on dirt. That's called friction Mr Weiner. It tends to slow thing some what. Since the car was thrown in reverse it lost momentum. Since it was throwen sideways it lost its smooth roll. Two, he is not exerting 900 pounds into clawing the dirt. He is hanging. He has to hold his own body wait, save for a brief jolt as he comes to rest. We get it. It's extreme. ITS A MOVIE! I looked Mr Weiner up via linkedIn.com. His experience? Service industry, Construction and now Real estate. Very good find Weiner your Math seems to check out

So you are contesting the equation because the person who posted it is not a physics professor or a talking head on TV.

Get a clue guys, the measure of a persons intelligence is not the job they hold, look at 90% of the people in politics. Einstein was a patent clerk.

um i think he is contesting the equation because its wrong. the fact he has no physics or higher math degree is, i agree, amusing
  • Charles Carmichael · 10 months ago
Apparently, despite appearances, Kirk was a bit of a portly kid. That stopped him from going over the edge.

I have to agree, one's job does not define them. I do hold a degree in astrophysics. Adam's math IS correct, as the equations relating to velocity and acceleration are rather simple. What makes him incredulous, however, is the fact that he's basing his math on missing information. We don't know how much the car slowed before he threw it into reverse and fishtailed.

I also tend to agree that he probably would have gone over the cliff, but I can't judge until I see the whole scene.
