Film School Rejects: Star Trek: The New Enterprise Revealed

  • Brad · 1 year ago
I'm no Trekker by any means...been resisting for years, although have a few of the movies on DVD, but I am sooooo looking forward to this.

The new Enterprise should sit okay with fanboys...even though it's a prequel, the new shape should hurt too many feelings.

Just hope there no dodgy camcorder filming like Cloverfield though...:(

Oh, and I meant "shouldn't" hurt too many...

    The ship looks pretty cool.

I am looking forward to this reboot of the Trek film series.

I just wish I didn't have to wait so damn long! I hate that they pushed the release date to Summer 2009!

    um, 2 questions

    1) this being a "prequel" when pike had the ship and then kirk takes command, shouldn't the ship look oh I don't know something like the constitution class that we all grew up with during that time and not a kit bash from the one from the 80's movie and something else?

    2) wtf did they fire the ship designers that work on star trek or something?

this is just as bad if not worse design then the upside down akira class ship that they used in the enterprise series. no body learns from past mistakes. I hope there is a story because right now I'm not feeling like 25 bucks to see this one when it hits the theaters next spring.

    to answer dave's questions

    1 Yes it should

and 2 I do believe anyone related to any trek previous to this is been removed from any creative position for this film.

    I have no hope

I have to admit that the ship looks sharp. However, it isn't the effects I'm worried about on this film. It's the, "CW version of Trek for the tween crowd," vibe that I'm worried about.

I'm still hoping for the best and expecting the worst......

Seems like 75% of the FSR front page today is all James Bond and Star Trek. Which pretty much means THIS IS THE BEST SITE EVER!

I am such a geek. I really don't deserve to live.

I have lost all hope for this movie. If they wanted to do something new and original, they should have gone back to when the Enterprise (NCC-1701) was first built in SanFransisco yards ORBITING earth (not on it). And they should have captain Robert April taking the helm for the ships first 5 year mission. That would be something to see. We would have gotten a look at the Enterprise fresh out of drydock on her maiden voyage with her first captain on a brand new voyage. We would all get something new out of something old. Instead we got what..... a floating peice of space garbage that leaves everyones hopes for the franchise uncetain. What boggles my mind is that they thought the ship needed updating... but the uniforms are the same... What the heck were they smoking?!?!? I don't think i want to even see this film, and i've loved star trek scince i was in 5th grade. I'm almost 30 now.

I agree totally! the biggest problem with this new design are the nacelles. They're WAY too bulky for the rest of the ship. If they were more like the Enterprise A, the ship as a whole would retain it's sleek look. The rest of the ship's design I can live with. I just hope it looks better on film than the pictures.

I am a Star Trek Fan. They should of kept the Enterprise the same. I like the Constitution class ship and even the refit class. This ship here is something else. Not the orginal Enterprise. Maybe the Enterprise-F.

when i look at the new computer scenes in the original series released last year i loved the show even more the enterprise never looked better . They could add the enterprise A details but should have kept the original design! They also should have asked the fans opinions of what they wanted before their concept of the Enterprise!

This ship shouldn't be in the movie since it doesn't fit the story line. Pike was the original Captain of the Enterprise which has always been a Constitution Class Starship which is the same as the original tv series from the 1960's. JJ needs to take a Star Trek history lesson and not let his wild imagination run too wild. As Mr. Spock would say, He's too emotional and the new design looks too illogical. The new design fits great for a future Enterprise but not one from the past where this story is supposed to take place. It's illogical because it's like a historian rewriting history by placing a jet with the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk.
JJ isn't the only producer to change things around in movies. Why can't movie makers leave well enough alone by keeping things the way they were? Whether or not certain people like the original Enterprise, the fact is, "The Constitution Class" starship made its debut on television and made television history. The Enterprise was changed in the movies; but, these movies took place in the future- not the past which this new one is supposed to have taken place.
