Film School Rejects: Star Trek Fans Can Relax: J.J. Abrams Gets It

In all the pictures Chris Pine clearly looks like someone playing William Shatner, rather than someone playing Captain Kirk.

I'll have to see it to believe it but I'll still watch the movie.

Robert, I thought the first pic looks very homo-erotic. I always thought Spock and Capt. Kirk are secret lovers. Ahhh "USS Brokeback Enterprise". Lmao

I am a long time fan of both Star Trek and FilmSchoolRejects.com, but I have to disagree with the following statement:

(Some still complain that the crews from Voyager and Enterprise never got a chance to shine on the big screen. But those people are nuts. Because, let’s face it–those shows sucked.)

Mister Hand must have not see seasons 4 and 5 of Voyager nor season 3 of Enterprise. In my opinion, those are the best episodes the Star Trek franchise has produced.

DS9 was the waste of time if you ask me.

I've seen every single episode of STAR TREK: VOYAGER. What was a pretty decent final season was marred by a terrible, horrendous final five minutes of the very last episode. I've never been so pissed off at a show in my life.

ENTERPRISE? Dude. That show was all sorts of awful. Even if it improved 1,000% by the last season, which I don't care to ever watch, there's still not a single character in that show I gave a damn about.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Even if it is a bad one. I'm just giving you a hard time Mister Hand.

I enjoy your articles. Keep up the good work.

My opinions are not bad. They are the guddest.

And I apologize if I came off a little harsh. I got the feeling you were questioning my TREKKER cred. And that I do not stand for.

And I was going to try to find some Klingon insult to insert here, but try googling that some time. Damn. People actually LEARN that shit.

"Simon Pegg, who knows a thing or two about making good movies"

I don't want a rep as the Pegg hater but I would prefer if some perspective was used by Americans that salivate over him on a regular basis so I enter the following into evidence to disprove the above statement - Run, Fatboy, Run, How to lose friends and alienate the audience, Big Nothing, League of Gentlemans Apocalypse. Now I personally also dislike Shaun and Fuzz but I accept that's down to taste, the above though are just terrible.

Slick effects and pretty kids do not make for a great film, unless you are looking for a good Star Wars film.

Mr. Abrams sounds like he wants slick for slicks sake in lieu of a good script and some real acting. If he grits it up, great. Wrath of Khan, for all it's faults was darker and grittier and it worked. The more I see of this, the more scared I get. I sincerely hope that it's great as I've been a fan of Star Trek since the reruns of the original show in the 70's, but I think we are going to get a made for 11 year old comic book remake.

Take a lesson from The Dark Knight Returns. A film can go against "type" and still work.

Jeff.. perhaps you should do a little more broad research on what the writers and actors in this movie have said.. that the character development is first and foremost.
