Film School Rejects: Spielberg To Tackle 6-Foot Invisible Rabbit with ‘Harvey’

No point in remaking Harvey, Vertigo or Rear Window unless they clone James Stewart? Hah!

He'll probably take the safe option and cast Tom Hanks.
Love Spielberg, love Harvey, do not want this movie.

My first thought too. I have no doubt it'll be Tom Hanks. Screw this.

I played Elwood P Dowd in high school and Dr. Sanderson on stage last year. I think Spielberg needs someone with my experience on this project.

Sadly, he'll have to settle for someone like Tom Hanks.

I'm actually at a loss for casting, even when I hear Hanks being tossed out as an idea. Like Scannan said, it's a safe option, and I just don't think Hanks has the charm anymore. Plus, he's a scad too old for the part.

I suppose to me it's a question of how someone would re-cast It's a Wonderful Life. How could you?

This is a foolish effort by Spielberg, just release Harvey on Blu-ray and let the original stand. There are some films that simply don't need to be remade or "adapted."

You lost me at "there's no doubt Spielberg will make a great movie."

Another "movie going to be made" comment by Spielbergo himself. How many is that so far???

I can't describe how much this news sickens me!!! I fucking hate Spielberg now. Two remakes of things that should NEVER be touched. Especially Harvey. That picture is perfect. My first thought, just like everyone else is that Tom Hanks will be getting the role. I don't care who does. I'll never see it and it kills me that off goes another classic that no one will bother seeing because they can watch a new color print that a supposed great creative director has made.

The whole point of remaking...scratch that 'adapting' a movie is that it will likely deviate from the original. This means that age and style of acting are eroneous for casting. Jack Nicolson could play the role for all the fidelity that Spielberg is likely to have to the original. Personally I think Hanks could do it, but I would like to see a new face. As unpopular as this might be, Ryan Reynolds might not be a bad idea. Depending on how his performance goes in 'Buried', he might prove to be a great solo actor.
