This is sort of old news, but depressing nonetheless. Not sure what Marvel is doing but they need to get their act together and fast.

I don't know who is really to blame but in my opinion, the actors need to stop with their inflated ego's and accept that budgets aren't the end of the world. If I were an actor, I would rather play a super fun part for a little cheaper, than to let the studio replace me for someone who is undercutting me. I love and respect Samuel L Jackson, but I'm sure that he could drop his price a little bit to play a character that he was "looking forward to." They should have started long term agreements when they work in essential characters now a days. When the movie industry world is based upon sequels and remakes maybe the studios should just assume that they wont come up with anything more original and sign these actors on for two or three movies and call that it. I would rather a movie remake live up to my expectations then a studio ruin some of my favorite super heroes wait till the remake of the remake comes out.
On the other hand, if the studio really doesn't have enough money to make the sequel everything it should be, then maybe they should wait. How many disappointments can you dish out pre production before you start realizing that your bottom dollar is going to be affected. I think that if more fans would show there dedication to the original cast and boycott sub-par sequels, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.
Maybe I am just an Idealist. The movie moguls wont listen to me anyways.

less sam jackson is what the world needs...
  • Paisan · 10 months ago
Why would they not put Sam in this film. Im sure his brief role in Part 1 will be more popular then the entire Dragon Ball movie..
  • _Christopher_M · 10 months ago
I've heard this won't be with just Marvel Studios...many studios aren't shelling out the regular amount of cash to their talent...it's all because of the looming actors strike and economy....I'm sure they would have some sort of point system or backend percentage....It's understandable for a studio to lowball the investment if the film could stop production for a strike....they would loose a lot more money if they shelled out all the money upfront...

    LOL, Blackmanjew!

It does seem that Marvel is seriously stepping on their own tail here.

I have a feeling JAckson is asking for leading role type numbers while his character only warrents a minor role in each film.

And I'm not sure I'm too upset about this, Jackson can sometimes be too over the top, maybe a lesser known actor will be better in the role

Since Jackson is in every movie known to man, I'm not torn with this news.

I am sure they could get Hasslehoff for a song, and he has played the part before.

See what people don't realize is that Marvel is notorious for going the cheap route. They see the money flowing in and now they want to double it by making drastic cuts, and like a lot of their titles they will lose the talent. But they will blame everyone else but themselves for this when the movies failed like they have for the past 20 years.

Now don't get me wrong, most of hollywood is over paid and overrated and Samual Jackson is no exception. But I dn't believe that Terrance Howard pushed for more money I think that was on Marvels heads.

Maybe Downey wanted a bit more cash to reprise his role????

Actually to add a wrinkle to the conversation.... Stan Lee and his investors are suing Marvel...again with a new lawsuit. Saw it on yahoo yesterday and emailed a copy to the staff. The article states that Lee did not sign off on certain rights. So I'm theorizing Marvel knows something may not be on the "up and up". Like Fox and WBS with The Watchman.

If the lawsit does get the green light by who ever will be prisiding over it, it could be lights out for Marvel. Economy aside, they may have "bigger issues". This is why I made the comments I did behind Terrance Howard. I grew up with this cat. We are cut from that old school do your job 220% better motto. Terrance had a signed contract for both. I don't buy into that whole I had to re-edit his part bulls**t. I think Fav is saying that to keep his job. As it stands, they only kept "low salaries" on board.

Jackson did not get much for that scene thriller ending last reel, it probably was a freebie. Let's be honest here, Marvel knew this suit would hit. And they may be knocked out of the game altogether. Disney did the same thing to the lady who created Winnie the Pooh. She's still fighting "the House of Mouse" and all it's 'BIllions".

Marvel Studios... is there any gem you can't f*ck up? Judging by what Marvel has done to some of my favorite characters in the past couple of years,.. No, there is nothing they can't f*ck royally. They need to pull their head out of their collective rectum. Pony up the cash to make the good talent you had happy.

It seems to me that SJ would be one of the easier folks in Hollywood to negotiate with. He doesn't seem to be too demanding in his selection of scripts, and he works in semi-low budget features. Marvel was going to make him an integral part of a lucrative franchise and couldn't come up with a price. After hearing the 250k they offered Rourke, I figure they offered SJ something similar, obviously scaled to the amount of work he'd have to do though.

Looks like Marvel wants to do a "summer stock" theatre version of Iron Man 2. Granted I'll still pony up the $10 to check it out but still...

I think this is ridiculous. He shouldn't get a big pay raise, just give him some more money and be done with it. It's not like they don't have the money. Look how much Iron Man made. This is fricken ridiculous.

What are they going to do without Jackson? They'd have to find a guy that looks like Sam Jackson, or cut the character all together. It's not like they can just go back to the classic Nick Fury. How are they going to explain that?

"what happend Col. Fury?" "Oh, yes I just dyed my skin white. I really don't know why, just thought it would look cool."

It's stupid. And they are going to need Fury for the Avengers flick. I think they are just trying to get him to accept a cheaper deal, and they really will give in eventually. There is still time to fix this.

You mean like Lucas going into a great film like Empire and editing in that f*cking hack Hayden Christenson in to replace the orginal Anakin/Vader? They would never do that....lol.
  • JMoney · 9 months ago
    huh? explain
  • Adam_Sweeney · 9 months ago
Not to be picky, but it Return of the Jedi that Hayden Christensen was inserted into. ;) Empire had an altered scene between the Emperor and Vader which better explains how Vader figures out that he has a son.
  • Aleric · 9 months ago
And this is why you don't try to run macros and comment to FSR at the same time, you make stupid mistakes like this mix up of the movies. Sorry guys I had a brain flub.
  • JMoney · 9 months ago
you guys still didnt really explain it, is it the scene in Jedi where he's in that black globe thing and you can see his face without the mask?
  • Aleric · 9 months ago
No, at the end of Return of the Jedi, when the ghost of Obiwan and Yoda appear to Luke when the Ewoks were clelbrating the destruction of the 2nd Death Star. They removed the original actor that played Darth Vader and substituted Hayden Christenson instead.

No need to apologize, we got the idea. We all have those moments, only some of us have them when writing articles. Haha.
  • Adam_Sweeney · 9 months ago
And not to be even more picky, but I meant to put was after the word but in my original comment. Haha.
  • Hage · 9 months ago
err... the original had another actor as anakin and the reeditted version had the hayden guy as anakin. tada... well, i suppose they just have to call on kirk lazarus! bet theres no1 who wouldnt agree on him playing a black dude who was white. arh well, this just goes well in to marvel's SI campaign: EMBRACE freakin CHANGE!

I dont see how Hollywod is feeling the crisis. Isnt it their own fault for being greedy(FOX)? I thought it was bad that they dont care about audiences when the prices of admission everywhere is at leat $9 a ticket!!! Now they show how cold they are by throwing change to actors. Its shameful. ANother example of why this economy is like this. GREED.
