Yeah I buy it, it looks EXACTLY like the old Enterprise.

    A. This does NOT look "exactly like the old Enterprise."

    2. It's not from the film.

Having said that, it IS pretty cool and I like it.

    :-)

Thank you for following up point "A" with point "2." I needed a good chuckle this morning. And, yes, this does look exactly like the old Enterprise. Granted, I've seen exactly one episode of Star Trek. But I HAVE seen the opening credits a bunch, and this very much resembles that iconic image.

    No prob, Josh. :-)

Of course it's similar, but there's a big gap between "similar" and "exactly the same."

You can see the original here:

The shape is quite similar, but it's definitely NOT not exactly the same.

Looks an awful lot like the fan re-imagining of the Enterprise from http://www.startrekreborn.net/viewpage.php?page... to me. The squares on the pylons, the uplights on top of the saucer, the spine down the back of the saucer... in other views you can also see the transparent nacelle tops: http://www.startrekreborn.net/images/enterprise...

    James,

    Exactly. It's the same ship.

I have to say that I like the new design but I fear that this ship could be just as technologically historically inaccurate as the NX Enterprise with Cpt. Archer where the technology of that ship was well beyond the capabilities protrayed in the original series and described in the Star Trek encyclopedia which chronologically came after the NX. That said, I admire the "possible" new design since it doesn't look like a fart of solar wind from a star will completely decimate the ship. I always thought the original Enterprise was flimsy, clumsy, and on the verge of utter collapse if it wasn't for the illustrious Mr. Scott. Just don't over do the technology, thats TNG and beyond's job. Rick Berman help me if I see one blue quantum torpedo flickering through space! Otherwise nice design, did say that?!

One more thing, looking more closely at the "new" ship in comparison to the "old ship, what a paradox, it would seem that there are more than 23 decks on this new version. Just stating one man's observation.
