well you made up my mind. I wasn't sure about watching this because I thought the movie would glorify rape and murder of women, but your review indicates otherwise.

i plan to watch it this weekend/

I'm a little nervous about seeing this in theaters, but after reading your review I'm without a doubt netflixing it.

Has there ever been a movie that glorified rape? Exploited perhaps, but I can't recall seeing a film where rape is glorified.

I was pretty disappointed in Last House on the Left. In 1972 this film was like nothing else that had really been done, so damn sure that's shocking. But viewed today by a young generation of horror veterans, it is kind of laughable at parts.

Also, it never made sense to me (SPOILERS of Original) why the mother gave head to the guy for like 3 minutes before biting his dick off. If you're going to bite a dick off I feel like you don't have to perform fellatio first, you can just bite it off.

So you were disappointed in the original or in the remake? Or both?
  • bluerob · 8 months ago
I am gonna see it tonight. Good to hear you enjoyed it.

The original. Haven't seen the remake yet, but I will soon. There is plenty of room for improvement in my mind, for the reasons I stated - namely that no matter how shocking a movie was in 1972, in 2009 it just doesn't have the same impact. Or in 2002, the year I first saw the original Last House, for that matter.

I feel that there are a lot of horror films that could be improved with remakes...Nightmare on Elm Street and The Crazies are just a few examples..a lot of these movies are dated or just cheesy...same with the original Last House on The Left...as long as they keep remaking movies I'd rather they stick with horror films rather than the classics...

great review, i'm pretty much sold on this movie now.

and i still love that trailer. one of the best for any horror film (good or bad) in a long time.

I was going to post the exact same thing. I saw that trailer on one of my HD channels about a month back and have been wanting to see it since. The premise is fantastic and the music selection sold me completely.

Great review Rob, I'll go see it tomorrow.

Ummm...... Do you guys read or coordinate your own blog posts? This week's FSR Report Card post: http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/reviews/fsrs-wee... gave Left House on the Left a D+.

Don't you think it's retarded to put up 2 separate posts the same day about the same movie with 2 different and completely disparate conclusions? Yes i realize different people have different opinions and it''s nice to read opposing viewpoints - even on the same venue - but if you're gonna label one of the posts with a quasi-official title like "FSR Report Card" invoking the blog's name, don't you think it should represent the entire blog as an entity? You guys aren't just individual writer's with a common space to throw things up on... you are supposed to be a team.

At best, your presentation is confusing. At worst, you guys come off as unorganized and unprofessional.

You make a great point. I've been telling Neil for years that we should all agree on one opinion and stick with it.

Although I do disagree with your one point - I'd say "at best" we come off as unorganized and unprofessional. "At worst" we come off as - Oh my god the ice cream truck just drove past the office. I'll be right back.
