Why the woman PhD as the main interface? I think Klaatu would have been more impressed by normal humans.
The space ship was too over the top and did not seem technically realistic. Not convincing at all.
Gort was under utilized. When he turned into the locust dust I just shook my head in cinema dissatisfaction. It would have been better to have drilled the hole in him and let the bugs out. I was not crazy about this biblical bug notion. It was a poor end to Gort
Not enough real science and the main message (planet devastation and over population) was not delivered. The move failed big time in this regard.
The military is by far more sophisticated than portrayed.
I didn't see the original, but I found the movie from 2008 realy good!
He will come in my top 5 of best movies, because there is so much in it. There are so much messages in this movie.
So, everyone who haven't seen the movie already (and didn't see the original), you must go and see it!
Okay, I can see liking the movie... but how many movies have you seen this year? 7?
I knew the philosophical issues raised by this film would go right over the pop corn lovers heads leaving it with a mainstream luke warm response.
I watched The Day The Earth Stood Still. you seem to have just gone to the cinema. you obviously didn't get it....and if you haven't by now ....you probably never will. worse review ever!
don't give up your day job ....what ever that is Neill
Keanu Reeves acting, as I agree, was very good. I also agree that the movie wasn’t as “BAM! It’s the end of the WORLD(not NY)!!” as it should’ve been and the ending did no true justice as it should have. (I especially dislike the “no, *he’s* leaving part. Flat.)
Yet, I find that The Day The Earth Stood Still sent many messages in the smallest of moments. It’s cinematography was quite poetic as well, with the robotic angles and lighting in shots that tend to show only half of what happens as most people would see things—as Klaatu himself sees things.
I don’t disagree nor with you in it’s lack of impact. It did leave impact to those who looked real close, and maybe those who have already treaded on that same soil of thought. It lacked the impact to make those who never did to listen and to make those who are distracted to shut up and listen.
I don’t think it’s “D” grade. I’d give it a B.
