Very nice review man. I honestly can't wait to see this film and you've only got me more hyped :D

    My brief review:

If you don't like UP, your opinion is wrong.

Just watched it at the midnight showing. A+ hands down. Pixar has moved onto telling a story so emotionally powerful, that I now look back at Wall-E and wonder how deep that film really was...? :P

Another important thing to mention is that as I walked out of the theatre, I was happy. I didn't want to dissect the film, I actually started thinking that this was really going to be a classic film (not just animation) for years to come. And I know I'll be watching it again and again, just because sometimes a story about the human condition is great to remind us that life is an adventure no matter what you do.

A great film, but getting lost in all of the well-deserved praise is the fact that Up is Pixar's least accessible movie for children. I watched the movie in a packed theater, and many of the kids were just not interested. Why? Two reasons...

One, the blood, gunshots, and dog abuse caused several of the younger kids to cry and beg to go home. You could hear their pleas echoing around the theater.

And two, the movie has long stretches of two human characters simply talking. Most animated movies use animals and other creatures precisely because they keep the attention even during dialogue scenes. Lots of kids lost focus during these bits, and again, you could see/hear their minds start wandering.

Still a great and beautiful movie though. (Maybe not an A+...)

Tens of women would beg to differ Mr. Miller.

The kids in my packed showing Friday evening were riveted by it. Laughing at the funny stuff, and morose at parts wherein any of the 4 main characters were in serious danger. My 3 1/2 yr old twin daughters themselves were well into it. Though I did hear them whimper at the "scary parts," they immediately returned to giggling and laughing at the funny action bits. Some kids I guess are just more sensitive than others.

Fess up, Neil Miller. We all know that you personally thought that Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience was the first great film of 2009.

Loved it. It's the first Pixar to make me cry. It's been a loong time since an animated movie hasn't treated children as idiots. That's why this generation sucks so much. So long as Pixar can crank out quality animated movies, there may be some hope yet.

I thought "Up" was the first great animated film of the summer. I thought "Coraline" was the first great movie of 2009 and "Star Trek" the first great film of the summer. Those were the only three I gave five stars.

What a great movie. And for those who say it doesn't appeal to young children, my 4 year-old son sat through the entire movie without falling asleep or losing interest. We both loved it.

    I loved the movie UP. And it made me cry. ;-;
But it also made me laugh and it was a really nice experience.
I kind of want to see it in theatres again, but I'm saving to buy games for a new PS2 because my sister has stolen the shared one away to college.
I feel like a hard core fan.
I really hope that the movie UP is very profitable and a lot of people watch it! It was really great! It must be recognized! People must know how great the movie is!
I don't know about little kids anymore. I remember in the theatres at teh sad parts, I heard a little kid who was sad... Although I had tears trickling down my cheek.

I don't get it, I've read all of these great reviews and then I watched it... it was okay. Beginning was nice an heartfelt, but the ending was so-so (flying dogs and 110 year old villain?) and predictable (of course the kid is going to get the bottle cap badge). It's funny though how Wall-E was about how man polluted the Earth so badly that it became uninhabitable (hey, a great message for the kids to protect the environment), yet what does the main character in "UP do in this beautiful south american paradise... dumps all of his junk all over it (realize it's part of the story, but should have had a pic in the ending montage of him and the kid cleaning up his mess).

I thought that Wall-E was a much, much better film and as far as the "entertainment" factor goes... the Incredibles is still my favorite Pixar film. B-

Damn good point about them littering the jungle. Good catch.

Not every single kids' movie has to have a 'green' message. I'm pretty sure the kids got it by now. What with the countless commercials, movies and TV shows shoving it down their throats every chance they get.
And I'm pretty sure the kids won't be tempted to fly their house to South America and throw all their junk out the door because of this movie.
And it was just that; a movie.
