Film School Rejects: Remake of John Carpenter’s The Thing is Actually… a Prequel?

Carpenter's Thing is a masterpiece - the perfect blend of horror, sci-fi and monster flick. It manages to be both incredibly gory and psychologically chilling as the alien takes over man after man. The cast are fantastic, the setting is so creepy and claustrophobic and the usual minimal score adds to the might of its suspense. No remake, prequel, sequel, whatever will match the greatness of this film. Just LEAVE IT ALONE!

If Bottin is back doing the effects, I might get a little more excited. But as of now, there's really no need for this.

Really though, this movie got under my skin and made me freak out. Its a scary thought to place it in the middle of nowhere, too.

Why not do another movie of 'The Thing'!? If it doesn't turn out as brilliant as Carpenter's... it will not hurt the old classic in anyway. Rob Zombies remake of Halloween didn't hurt the original and it certainly didn't change my view of the original. Entertainment is what it is, just entertainment. If it sucks... I'm out $8 and a slight feeling of disappointment, but the producers and investors are out much more and feel much worse about it. I have never understood people that do not direct, act, produce or invest in a movies pre-budget as to why they wouldn't like to see another sequel of an original film. In any case I'm looking forward to it :)
