Totally disagree about The Slavers. While it may be the best MAX storyline, it's much too grim to make a good flick. For once, we got a REAL Punisher movie and it flops, so I don't think that "more despairing" is the way to go.
Ruining Pittsy? Please. They "ruined" Cavella, Ink and Budianski too; those won't weren't the guys I paid to see. I wanted Castle. I got him. Who cares what names the cannon-fodder have?
The spinning was silly and un-Castle; the sliding was fine. Parkour is stupid; Castle's 15-foot building leap'n'crash was GREAT! The camp was GLORIOUS; Castle killing an "innocent" was the ONLY mistake in the movie. The rest was PURE Castle.
Read up on your Punishers, folks.

A lot of youse would have more credibilty saying how they "shoulda done it" if you mentioned OTHER storylines than the Ennis ones. It tells us REAL fans that you've only hopped on the Punisher bandwagon very recently and don't know the character as well as we do.
There were OTHER writers before Ennis who told EXCELLENT stories as well. So enough with Barracuda and Zhakarov and Rawlins. What about the Carbones? Or the Central Park "hunting trip"? Or the Columbians? Or Bushwacker? Or the "Ten to Noon" story? PLENTY of stories, not just Ennis'.

For an action movie with a budget of $35 million (box office mojo)...it was a good effort!...hopefully they get a better script next time around and pump in more cash to make the film bigger and better...I'm up for a sequel like many fans of the Punisher..now that they got the action, violence and the Punisher down...let's work on the parts between the shootouts....

i loved the Punisher with Thomas Jane. I thought it did a great job, so I was not thrilled when I saw Ray Stevenson take up the mantle. I have to say, the movie was just generally bad throughout. Some parts just made me laugh, as I started to count how many exploding heads i would see before the end of the movie. I do have to tell you, the very very ending of the movie with the whole "Punisher Saves" thing. Very creative. I loved that. The horrible comedy affect after the fact was not needed, and would have been better if it ended without it.

Quit hiding behind "real" fandom. This movie sucked. Saying that just because Stevenson was a good Punisher it was a good film is like saying you had a really good dinner because the chicken was pretty good, but the vegetables and potato tasted like ass. Also, plenty of people have read plenty of Punisher - this was not great. And again, this is supposed to be a MAX version of Punisher, so we wanted dark stories and MAX characters.

have read alot of punisher stuff.ennis marvel knights stuff was lame.end of.and what went before,even worse(sucked).the max line is the only thing that gives the punisher any real weight.mainly due to garth ennis adult orientated writing.this movie was really only made because of the popularity of the max line/ennis punisher so why they couldnt have ennis himself flesh out a story for film eludes me.

"Hiding"? No, I'm right here, Robert. REAL Punisher fans know Castle when we see him. You don't. And that's it. Not knocking you for it but face the facts, before Ennis, you didn't even know who Castle was. You thought he was a guy who drove around with a hydrant trying inorder to get parking tickets which will help in his endeavor to get a friend in bed with a guy's wife. You like the vegetables.
What if we just like chicken? We don't care if the veggies were terrible; we had no intention of eating them.
"WE" wanted? No. "YOU" wanted. The "film buff", the "Citizen Kaner".
The very reasons you list as lame-o, WE loved.
Furthermore, I know for a FACT that other REAL Punisher fans have been trying to tell you the same: For the FIRST time, we have a REAL Punisher movie.
Could it have been better? Sure.
Citizen Kane too. But we'll settle for a FAITHFUL Punisher movie that bombed than a COMPLETELY UNFAITHFUL movie that broke even.
That's the dif between US and you, Robert. As right as you may be, movie production-wise.

Haha. Click on my name and go check out the films I review highly. I'm definitely no "Citizen Kaner." You can love Ray as "The Punisher" and Frank Castle. That doesn't mean this was a good Punisher movie. I guess if you wanted to see something like, I don't know, a 1992 era comic, when the Punisher was in decline, then maybe you got it. I don't like the Punisher with campy supporting characters. I don't consider him one. My favorite storylines are obviously MAX, then followed by stuff like the 1986 miniseries, the first few arcs of War Zone.

Times have changed and I think having a campy villain like Jigsaw in a Punisher movie and not taking him seriously is like putting Robin in Batman Begins, having him say "Holy Flightless Birds, Batman!" and having the villain be The Penguin who uses his silly umbrella weapons and waddles around, trying to steal diamonds from rich old women.

But clearly we're not going to agree on War Zone or, really, any Punisher movie, apparently, and that's fine. I liked War Zone for all the parts with Stevenson and the Punisher killing people (except for the odd thing, like chandelier swinging) but hated pretty much any moment without him on screen.

most of what you said was true some things werent neccesary in the film but it was fun to watch. RAY is the PUNISHER. true pittsy is one ugly mofo in the MAX series and as for INK well.....just another pretty boy just like THOMAS JANE was in the film. no matter what RAY will always be the punisher. heck the definition of PUNISHER is RAY STEVENSON. but since it flopped i dont think there going for a sequal. i was hoping they used THE SLAVERS and somehow put BARRACUDA right in there. and as for maginty that should have been pitsy dying just like in the graphic novel instead of getting his head blown off. i dont get why everybody in the mainstream is bashing this film. this was kind of wut i was hoping. using GARTH ENNIS story arc and his style of violence to tell the punisher story. i dont think thomas jane was punisher it was an ok film but not the punisher. he didnt really capture punisher for one thing especially when he said he was over the death of his wife and kids in that one scene with the girl. you guys can tell me thomas jane is a better punisher but i dont care RAY will always be the punisher.

Oh. Well, that's different. The movie is goofy; ain't gonna deny it. It was still better than watching Jane drinking and trying to look tough for 90mins, no?
Thought we were talkin' about Castle, Robert. As in: THIS was a Castle movie. The others weren't.
Agreed? Is Ray The Man or not?
I thought he was. To the Max, in fact.
Agreed? That this is not only the BEST but the ONLY Castle movie ever made?
Even if it was a campy splatterrama, it blows its predecessors away. Sad as you make that statement out to be, if YOU are prepared to own it on DVD, then SURELY your 5 good points outweigh your 10 bad ones. I'm sure you could not tolerate all that crap with NO Castle to boot.
As "bad" as it was and despite your love for Jane, let me hear you say that War Zone was the BEST Punisher movie so far.

The secret to a successful Punisher movie would be to just take The Slavers storyline and film it pretty much panel for panel, word for word. It would be awesome.

This movie was ok, but it is the script that Jane turned down. Prolly read it and said wow i only say 5 lines in the whole movie, pretty deep, im not sayin the punisher is meant to say much but when everyone in here and myself agree that the only good parts of this movie are when we see Castle then maybe he should have said more. Jigsaw blew he was like watchin a muppet, he was supposed to be soo badass stabbin ppl in the neck and goin after peoples families but then hes cryin cuz hes ugly come on. The only reason the jamaicans were in the movie was for the sole purpose of frank castle shootin one of them out of the air with a missle No points in this movie made me hope anyone involved in this would ever be part of a sequel. Stevenson is built like the punisher but thats about it. Anyone could have played this role and thats why Jane didnt want it. Anyone of us in this forum could be filmed running around and then stand still in frontof the camera while someone reads lines to us like "i wish i could get my hands on God" or "dont die on me" and then repeat them like stevenson while stairing blankly into the camera.

If they mixed this one and Jane's together you would have a pretty good movie. While parts of both movies are inaccurate like Jane's family dying in the bahamas and the comic family dying in central park, we would still get a good movie. The last one was profittable thats why they evern gave this one a chance this one is gonna make less then 10 mil in theaters and the punisher will be dead until they decide to reboot it again ten years from now. They should however just turn this into a film franchise and release about one a year with stevenson straight to dvd i would be good with that. They should give it up for awhile then try to make a punisher like the termintor movies tons of gory violence decent actors around the terible lead actor that can build story and make you anticipate te future story and then just have the terrible lead actor walk around and kill ppl like the terminator.

I gotta say that your criticism of the film has more in depth points to make besides "Bring back Jane" so I thank you for that. Truly, once my excitement for the thrill the movie gave me abated, I can see what's wrong and it's blatantly wrong and it could have used some more STEAK. Still the best Punisher movie. BY FAR. If they put in a NARRATION next time, we should be good to go.
You did make ONE mistake though, Dell.
Frank's family did indeed die in Central Park. Sheeps Meadow to be more precise.

You guys all suck. Great movie. lol what the hell man, 2004 punisher was better? let me guess, you guys also liked the one with dolph as well, f@gs! IM SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE HATIN ON THIS MOVIE! only problem i had with it is the fact that the frank and jigsaw fight was waayyyyy too short. dam, cant believe how much you guys are hatin! BLAH BLAH BLAH! This movie most def kicks the ass of any marvel movie, thats for dam sure. PEOPLE! ITS A FREAKIN MOVIE ADAPTION, THE HOT HOT DIRECTOR LADY WANTED SOMETHING BESIDES WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW ALL ABOUT FROM THE COMICS!
