Twilight Saga: New Moon Sets Records, Hauls in $140 million
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum
thats my favorite line in that movie!! cracks me up everytime.
I have to say though i agree completely with the political undertones of this piece. I am British, so unfortunately i cannot vote in your elections. This election is, in my humble opinion, extremely straight forward. 8 years of not just the Bush administration, but of Republican administration. Look at America. I love the Comedian's line in Watchmen about the American dream ("It came true...you're looking at it). America's space administration is in tatters, looking on while China and India continue to make humble but important strides. Your economy has collapsed under the greed of the corporate banks. Your father's and son's fight in a far away land. America, from afar, is no longer the land of dreams and hope. Instead it seems a very gloomy place.
Its extraordinary that ANYONE will contemplate voting for John McCain. He has so far not come out with a solid plan to help re-establish America as the greatest country in the war, rather focusing on launching attack after attack after his running mate.
The world is watching guys....
I believe from that point forward, we disagree on just about everything there is to disagree upon and as I have lost my taste for political discourse, especially via the internet, I won't go much further.
I would merely say, though, that if you really think any politician is different from the one next to him, stop sipping Kool Aide and take a drink of refreshing water and do some reading. I hate to break it to everyone like this, but Obama is not the Messiah and McCain is not the devil. They're both politicians. I'll stop here, for fear of getting embroiled in a conversation I don't much feel like having and instead go buy some bubble gum, just in case I need to kick ass and feel like chewing bubble gum at the same time.
i dont think obama is the messiah at all he just better suited for the job . mc cain is not the devil i just dont like to look at him on hd cuz he looks like he is about to have a stroke. mc cain in standard def is much less scary..
And Robert, I am also a bit burned out on the political discourse via the intrawebz, but I would take issue with only one of your points: I do not believe that all politicians are corrupt. And I believe that is an attitude that creates a self-fulfilling prophecy. If McCain pulls this out and becomes President, I believe he will make every honest effort to do his best for the country--and I believe he will be better at it than Bush was.
Now... Palin. That's another story...
I'm not saying the Republicans are blameless for the situation that we are in; however, I'm not going to let the Democrats get off scott free for their meddling either. Don't even get me started on the Obey, Conform, No Independent Thought, ideas when if comes to the political parties of this country, they all play that game toward their own selfish ends. Maybe those glasses should be turned on Obama as well because they are all manipulating you for their own purposes, don't think for a minute that either of these guys actually care about what happens to you.
At the moment I'm voting McCain because Obama's dogged pushing for more entitlement programs, instead of fixing the ones we have, when the country is hurting this bad shows me that he has an alterer motive; however, that could all change because I have my reasons for voting for him as well. I'm a fiscal Conservative and a Social Liberal with a self destructive streak. I might just vote Obama to watch the world burn. Before you McCainites raise heck, remember sometimes it takes losing something before you realize that you need to do something about regaining it, and if one thing has been proven true it is that this country, and both parties for that matter, does need a wake up call.
Vic
And again, I'm not going to get into a internet political debate, except to take umbrage, as I did with Robert, with your attitude that all politicians are corrupt and we can't trust any of them. As you said, "don’t think for a minute that either of these guys actually care about what happens to you."
I just don't think that's true. I think we have two guys running for President who love this country. Are they ambitious? Yes. Are they politically savvy? Yes. But that does not mean they don't also care about doing good works.
This was prob Carpenters best film, in the long run...... (Chewing gum!)
