This coming installment of Batman by the never disappointing Christopher Nolan was always destined to be a monstrous success. Now, with all the glowing reviews and hype the movie is getting, the anticipation is almost unbearable. I recently came across Heath Ledger's Degrees of Separation and saw it as sign of how huge this movie is going to be.

I won't get to see TDK for another week or so since some of us don't get to charter a jet to LA for a private screening and free lap dances like Neil.

But if his performance is deserving of a nomination, how impossible would it be for another actor to win it? I imagine a posthumous nomination sort of seals the deal or at least forces whoever wins to mention his memory in their acceptance.

Having seen the film, I will say that Ledger deserves on Oscar nod -- dead or alive. His performance is brilliant, a complete immersion into a character that is as complex and terrifying a villain as we have ever seen -- I shit you not.

Kevin Smith, in his short review of TDK, also noted that Heath Ledger deserved an Oscar - as his acting was "epic".

*yawn* This movie is a gimmick to sell toys and fast food combos--nothing more. Batman Begins was a real Batman movie, a real movie--period. Every single thing about this movie, from the casting of that no-talent Ledger (whom no one was happy about when they announced the casting and whom no one would be happy about if he hadn't killed himself) to this "viral" marketing campaign--has been a dissapointment. Real movies that can stand on their own merrit don't need "viral" campaigns. Viral is a good word for this movie because just like a virus you can't really do anything to get rid of it and it's going to make you sick.

I can't wait for this movie, I usually hate sequels because no matter how good they are they can't capture the magic of the first film, they almost always seem derivative to me personally. But after hearing Kevin Smith call this movie "The Godfather II", i know this movie won't disappoint.

i do question whether this Oscar talk is a result of Ledger being deceased, and wonder if the accolades would be the same if he were alive, but i havn't seen the movie, so maybe his performance is that good

The real surprise will be when he shows up to accept the Oscar in person.

"Heath, we thought you were dead?!" they'll say.
"I was merely 'acting' dead. Perhaps you've heard of it?" he'll reply with a wry smile.

And then they'll tearfully applaud him, master of his craft.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but judging from what I've read and seen, I'm guessing that
Heath turns in an oscar worthy performance!

Let's hope the studio puts on a good campaign and that the Academy doesn't shy away
from a movie like the Dark Knight.

i must admit the trailers look very intringuing...
but then again thats what they are supposed to do.

its hard to say exactly until i see the movie - but i am greatly looking forward to it!

Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker, in my opinion, eclipes Bale's performance as Batman. He deserves the Oscar for his dark and chilling role. GO HEATH!

Whoever said this movie is boring and is only made to sell toys, go watch it! It's so good, and Heath is the best villain I've ever seen (and I don't normally like villains). I really hope he gets the Oscar.

I feel that the movie was fantastic. Yes, I thought that Heath Ledger was a poor choice when I first heard it announced. After seeing the movie, I found myself disappointed in the fact that he was no longer with us to continue in the role. He did an amazing job in turning the Joker into the terror that he should be. Should he get an Oscar for the performance? YES. Not only did he stand out in the film, but he brought something to the character that has never been seen before in the genre. I can't quite put everything I am thinking into words, but suffice it to say that Heath Ledger deserves a damn nomination.

Este Oscar se lo tiene más que merecido. Algunos dicen que si se lo diesen sería solo por el hecho de que haya fallecido. No. Eso no es así. Estoy totalmente en contra de esta opinión. Quíen dice esto es porque, o no ha visto la película de 'El Caballero Oscuro' o simplemente tiene un criterio pésimo para el cine. Heath Ledger, a sus 28 años, era uno de los mejores actores de su generación. Gracias a su interpretación y a la de Jake, Ang Lee consiguió un Oscar por la película de 'Brokeback Mountain'. ¿Que más se le puede pedir a un chico de 28 años? Nada. Lo extraño es que, estando nominado, él no se llevase el Oscar por la interpretación que hizo en esta película:

It's difficult to portray a psychotic sadistic character and if it's a comic book villain it is even more challenging. I have yet to see a lot of performances of 2008 to adjudge Ledger as worthy to be an Oscar winner ONLY by seeing his performance but if he is really the best this year, he should definitely get it.
As for those stupid people (mostly 'Titanic' fans) who think TDK is becoming a phenomenal block-bluster only because Ledger is dead and not due to his performance, I simply laugh at that comment and would not give a reaction for that except I would like them to remind that... 'Titanic' became the number one block bluster because ALL the people were curious to know how ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN humans ended up dying on a huge ship and thus death became the reason for THAT movie to be watched so much and not THIS movie-TDK. Fanboys can use this point to argue. And it's not that I am some crazy fanboy saying this because TDK is critically Acclaimed and Titanic was not. Except for the really great efforts (that should be appreciated) implemented in creating and then showing the ship sinking, there were no such efforts visible in the junk story-line that was another boring love-story. The Master that he is, James Cameron's best till date is Terminator 2: Judgement Day(1991) which is one of the best in the world movies.

Heath Ledger merece sem dúvida alguma o óscar, seria a melhor homenagem que lhe fariamos enquanto actor. Em todos os filmes ele transmitiu emoções e fascinou a todos os que os viram.
Heather contribuiu para a realizaçao de filmes de grande valor. Na minha opinião, um dos melhores actores de sempre, e ainda bem que deixou a sua marca no mundo do cinema.
