Film School Rejects: Once Upon a Time in the West

The point you are missing about *why* Morton needs Sweetwater is not that it's in the way of a direct line - the railroad may actually br detouring to reach it, in fact - it'sd because it's the only place with a water supply of sufficient quality (steam locomotives need water with low mineral content, among other things) and reliability/quantity for many miles around; Morton *needs* that water to get his trains through.

To be honest I don't know what to make of your review as by your own admision your critiquing a film you don't understand. I'm not even sure if you've seen a decent edit of the film as the dialogue you've quoted is inaccurate but you seemed to miss the point about morton as pointed out above and many others. For example in praising the opening sequence you say the outlaws contend with a buzzing fly and leaking water tank. The man actually moves his hat to catch the water in it and drink it and the other man traps the fly inside the barrel of his gun, then they are killed by the arrival of Harmonica on the train. Get the metaphor yet? These men who have conquered and tamed the wild west are slain by the arrival of the railroad i.e industrialisation. If your lucky I may return to this website in a few years and see if you have re-evaluated and I might even explain cheyannes bum slap speech (that was an easy 1!?!) if your still lost. Doubt I'll be back though as this is the first review I've read and I'm not impressed.
