Film School Rejects: No ‘Salvation’ For Those Who Distract Christian Bale

  • Aleric · 10 months ago
Well we know Christian Bale likes the F word.

I can see he is the right person to play intense individuals, but I think if he pops someone they will own half his fortune.
  • MrDeath · 10 months ago
I actually don't like how people are defending Bale for this. I love Bale's work and his character work, but that doesn't mean you royally freak out on a person for walking into a shot. Come on Bale.
  • RobertFure · 10 months ago
I've worked on quite a few hot sets and that's pretty insane. It's not like the DP is some craft service guy. They're pretty high up on the totem. While I understand Bale's anger, a 3 minute tirade is pretty rough on the guy.

There are a lot of people in Hollywood like this though. It's not that they're necessarily assholes, it's just that they come to set to do their job and expect everyone else to have already set up completely for theirs. Guys like Michael Bay and David Fincher have reputations like this - you get all the time in the world to prepare, but if you fuck up while the camera is rolling it's going to blow up. Because they feel you've had enough time to be ready by the time they need 5 solid minutes of perfection.

But still, that's a mess. Bale is a tremendous actor, but I have lost some respect for him. Though who knows, maybe the DP did a few things wrong. Either way, overreaction. Possibly coming from being all amped up for the scene.

true bay does scream at his actors but ive never heard bay go crazy like bale did
  • John Strickland · 10 months ago
Michael Bay screaming at his actors proves that yelling at somebody doesn't make them do their job any better...
  • Adam_Sweeney · 10 months ago
Wow, that is unacceptable. I love Bale for his acting ability, but nobody deserves to be talked to that way. Maybe I am unbelievably naive, but it's a matter of respect for others. But hey, he at least called him a nice guy ... after he called him a fucking prick 50 times. Nice ratio.

He would never talk to the T-800 this way.
  • Killa T · 10 months ago
He really let that guy have it. Bale rules
  • Patrick T · 10 months ago
Wait till he finds the guy that leaked this.
  • Paul · 10 months ago
That's a bit ridiculous. I love Bale, but that was completely uncalled for. I don't care if he may have accidentally walked through a scene or whatever. Doesn't give Bale the right to treat him like shit.
  • Patrick T · 10 months ago
On a side note, could possibly be a problem on my end, but has anyone noticed the pics used in the last few posts including this shot of Bale are quite pixelated? Seems to just be this one and the one about the last air bender.

    no biggie. just wondering.

And I know people are bashing Bale for this, but by the sounds of it - it seems like they had a history with each other throughout the shooting. Bale seems to be responding hostile from the get go. It may just be the way Bale is, or maybe Hurlbut had been pissing him off for awhile, and this incident was the last straw for Bale. Either way its hilarious. haha.
  • daviedave47 · 10 months ago
What a f*cking prick. He goes on and on about professionalism behind the camera, and acts like a petulent child. Hm...maybe someone needs a lesson in what stands for being a professional. He's an actor...he needs to suck it up. I've enjoyed a number of the roles he's played, but as for the man, I hold little respect. This kind of lends credence to the whole thing with the police and his wife at the end of last year.
  • Patrick Ramser · 10 months ago
Sounds like the guy did a few things wrong. I'm not defending his behavior, but he says something along the lines of, "somebody should be watching him and keeping an eye on him. This is the second time that he doesn't give a f**k while somebody is in front of the camera."

The man obviously has done at least a couple things to irk Christian. Plus, we really can't hear the other people's reactions, McG could be flipping out also. He isn't stepping in, so I'd expect some other people to be mad.
  • Voltron · 10 months ago
Anyone else, and i would think that he was being an enormous douchebag, but, dammit, its Christian Bale, motherfucking Batman!!!
  • DMuff · 10 months ago
Man....Bale takes his acting quite seriously but I really don't think there is justification to this. I can understand he is very serious about his acting and expects everyone else to match his intensity with their work around him but this is just a bit ridiculous to me. I love Bale as an actor but he needs to be a bit more considerate about the people that work around him, they all play a role in the movie being made. Of course the people behind the camera may be a bit more expendable than the ones in front but have some respect.
  • JJDV · 10 months ago
Who's to say the DP hasn't done this stupid shit on more than one occasion. Bale explicitly mentions how incompetent the DP is. It's a long day at work (they're shooting the movie in the freaking desert), and damn if I wouldn't be pissed if something like this happened.
  • Tenika · 10 months ago
Yikes!! I love him to death but this is definitely an erection killer.
  • andrew · 10 months ago
bale did mention the dp has done this multiple times. yeah he was overreacting a little bit but i think this incident was, to use a cliche, the proverbial "straw that broke the camels back." just listen again carefully. he did say he keeps on making the same mistake multiple times.
  • Icarus2dsun · 10 months ago
I love how he goes with out missing a beat..... "Can Tom put this on please..... " Priceless. But seriously that was over the top. I hope he was just have a bad day that culminated in this explosion. I really think that was what was happening because think about it. You never heard of Bale flipping out on any set so of course this is stemming from from something.
  • Joey · 10 months ago
Does anyone agree that if anyone would remake the Man with no name trilogy, Bale would be the man to take over the Classic Eastwood role? It could be a HUGE role if done the right way.
  • Ronnie_S · 10 months ago
If anyone's been on a set before, then you would know that things get hectic at times. Especially if it's a scene when you trying to beat out the sun or you've got a lot of extras around. So everyone's running around to get things set-up properly. I can understand how the DP might of absent mindedly walked in front of his eye line. Bale over-reacted and a simple "Do you mind!" would of been acceptable.
  • Mladen · 10 months ago
Obviously filming this shitty film is getting to Christian Bale.
  • Cobra Commander · 10 months ago
He is an a$$hole, but what else is new? You can be really big a-hole and still be a good (overrated) actor. You think De Niro has never over reacted? Jack, Clint, Robert, Brad or George? He has a temper. I bet he hits children on the weekend and runs over dogs with is bat-ho-bile. Christian Bale should now be known as Prick-face Bale, or Christian "I love to say the word F-ck" Bale. Maybe he is pissed for not getting a Oscar nom?
  • Nick · 10 months ago
Working on a film set is a bitch. If you have already completed five takes and someone comes in and fucks up your scene, shit can hit the fan. People blow up all the time. People on here crying about Bale need to relax.
  • Aleric · 10 months ago
The break down in discipline came when the director didn't take control of the situation and defuse it. He should have shut Bale down after the first few comments and steered the issue onto neutral ground. Letting Bale go on and on like that made him look like he was the one in control, which means he lost all control as the director. Standing there and watching Bale scream at someone showed he was scared of Bale.
  • JayJayCAW · 10 months ago
LMAO I love it lol, ok now lets all watch at the premier of the movie, Both Bale & Hurlbut praising each other and what a "treat" it was working together lol
  • Theo · 10 months ago
I agree with Nick and Aleric. Bale's anger is justified but it got a little out of hand. That's on McG, he is the one who needs to command control on set. I do think that Bale should have gone into his raspy "Batman" voice...he would have been taken more seriously.

That Shane dude does sounds like an idiot. It's pretty clear he's done it, and some other stuff, before and was talking back.
  • CaptainReg0981 · 10 months ago
    I'm F*@%ing speechless lol!!
  • Dr_Ballon · 10 months ago
    Man, cinematographers get no love.
  • The Dark Tights · 10 months ago
wear your headphones and listen to it again; you'll hear a little bit more from the other folks including the guy getting the ass-reaming. at first he seems pretty apologetic but later it almost sounds like he's talking back and then bale gets fired up even more by it. i think both sides were behaving inappropriately. don't walk through an actor's eyeline. quit fiddling with lights. wait for a "cut" from the director and then go mess with your lights. that just sucks. but bale was excessive, too. he could've been firm and pointed out to the dp that he's done it numerous times and to knock it off without going on for this long. attack the problem, not the man. tell him what he did wrong but don't chop him up by getting personal. bale is one intense mutha, though, and that's what makes his acting very strong.
  • Chris · 10 months ago
This kind of activity is destructive to all, including 'Christian' Bale, and everyone in the production. There is no place for uncontrolled rage in the civilized world. Remember, they fired David Lee Roth. Anyone can be expelled.
  • nicky_cavella · 10 months ago
yes it does. bay always uses some speaker thing and screams. :D
  • Blade16707 · 10 months ago
So the guy lost it so what,it's called being "human" everybody gets mad some times no matter how humble we try to be.But on the other hand he could have handle that situation a little better, but it shows that he takes his profession seriously, you can't knock him for that.
  • Bateman · 10 months ago
I agree that this is probably frustration erupting from working on a film Bale knows is going to suck directed by someone like McG. He even calls out "McG" asking him whether he was going to do anything about it.
Agreed that McG obviously had no control over this situation meaning lack of control, chances are, on others...

That being said, professional would have been NOT to scream at a guy for 4 minutes in front of the other workers...
  • The Dark Kite · 10 months ago
good points about McG. he should've been stopping the scene and reaming the DP himself. maybe not for 4 F@#$ING!!! minutes but McG should be wrangling his people, he's the director. bale shouldn't have had to do it himself. i'm surprised bale didn't go off on McG afterwards.
  • jack2jack · 10 months ago
Well now we see why his mother and sister charged him with assault last year. He walked into the police station and charmed his way out of the charges. He is clearly Bi-Polar/ Manic Depressive Disorder. And McG is a big pu**y, everyone knows that. Use your talent as your craft does not mean you have to show your a**.

what people don't seem understand is that this incident happened almost a year ago. this is when he was just coming off The Dark Knight. this guy has done a few somewhat big films, he knows better than to walk on the fucking set when the camera is rolling. maybe Christian went a bit overboard, but that's still no excuse for this guy's behavior.
  • jack2jack · 10 months ago
That's the same time his mother and sister charged him with assault, a year ago. My point is this is behavior that goes beyond the set. Yes, the lighting guy was a dick. It also tells us that McG does not have control over his set. The studio held this for insurance purposes because he threatened to walk off the project. He may soon find himself having talent with no one to work with. How many offers for brooding leading male is out there?
