Film School Rejects: New Trailer: M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening

I understand that MNS is likely keeping things under wraps, so a part of me admires that - but exactly how many shots of people turning to look at something SURPRISING! do we have to see in one trailer? Pull that trick a few times and it builds tension. Show it 72 times within 2:25 and it becomes a low-rent magic trick.

Oh, and I wish they'd used the word "happening" maybe four more times, too. 'Cause I'm stupid and I didn't understand the title, I guess, so it's nice that they explained it to me.

I'm gonna give M. Night another chance even though I wasn't that dissapointed with Lady in the Water, but I really enjoy his films plus I would hope with Mark Whalberg, John Leguizamo, and Zooey Deschanel it would be at the very least if the not the greatest movie, a memorable one.

I have faith. After his masterpiece the Sixth Sense and his two excellent followups, I predicted that he could be the Hitchcock of our time, but unfortunately I may have jinxed him. I think as long as he keeps his mind out of fairytale land (because yes, Lady in the Water and The Village were absolutely awful), he can show himself as one of our most gifted directors.

He drives me nuts. I liked The Sixth Sense, but for too long now he makes two hours plus of nothing with a twist like "Oh, these were almonds not peanuts?"
"The Lady in the Water" was miserable.
My suspicion is this new film is two hours of nothing followed by the revelation that Lindsey Lohan is President of the United States. That would send anyone over the edge.
