  • Robert Fure · 1 year ago
    Meh. Not that interested.
  • Gray · 1 year ago
I'm well looking forward to this one. Unfortunately, we in Australia won't be getting to see it
    until May 2009!
I reckon the cast's looking pretty good, though I'm a little curious as to why Spock appears
to be choking Kirk in that second shot...
  • Davebaxter1989 · 1 year ago
Yeah whys Spock taking down Kirk?
  • Mladen · 1 year ago
The production design reminds me of Galaxy Quest...
    This is all very odd.
  • Atomic_Raj · 1 year ago
Who cares what it looks like...Its STAR TREK!!!
Doesn't Karl Urban remind you of a young De Forrest Kelley?
The pictures look fantastic by the way.
Zachary Quinto looks amazing as a young Spock.
Not too sure about Chekov though and Simon Pegg is great in everything.
    Can't wait for this one.
This is the one that the fanboys are waiting for.

Got to say it kinda hurts that in TWO incarnations of 'Scotty' he can't be Scottish. I mean there is a lot of great Scottish actors nowadays that would have been able to fill the role. James McAvoy anyone?
  • Reg · 1 year ago
note to David...James McAvoy is scottish but does not look as Scotty as you might look at Simon Pegg on the first picture. I can't wait to see this even though I'm not a Stark Trek fan...Ok ok I'm. I liked "The Next Generation" series and thats it.
  • Layne · 1 year ago
Zachary Quinto as Spock and Karl Urban as McCoy look okay. But that's just going on looks. As you say, the rest of the cast looks like something off The CW. I hope this doesn't turn out to be "Star Trek: 90210" or "The OC: The Next Generation" or anything like that.

I'm hanging my hopes on my faith in Abrams!

I think the problem with these prequel-esque endeavors, like the TV series Enterprise and now this Kirk-and-Spock: The Early Years, is that the tech and the wardrobe don't look retro enough. It doesn't visually fit the timeline. In other words, the stuff in the "past" looks more advanced than the stuff that's coming up in the "future." The bridge in the photos looks more modern-day than in the original series. Their uniforms here have raglan sleeves and a visual texture or pattern, much more detailed than the series. I don't buy it that these things would evolve to what look like more primitive tech and uniforms in the "real" timeline. In some ways, this stuff looks more advanced than The Next Generation. Even if I was a non-fan, this would irk me. That said, Spock, Bones, and Uhura look spot-on. Everyone else, well, I hope they can capture the characters well with their acting so that they transcend the fact that they don't really resemble the original crew.

    @ Reg

What do you mean 'look as Scotty'? I'm talking about being Scottish as Scotty is supposed to be.
  • JMoney · 1 year ago
I'm pretty sure he means Simon Pegg resembles James Doohan, and James McEvoy doesn't. Looking like a younger version of the character is more important than having a Scottish actor get the part, no offence. I'mCanadian, but I wouldn't get upset of they cast Americans to play a younger versions of Bob & Doug Mckenzie in a Strange Brew prequel if they resembled Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas. Continuity is more important than political correctness
  • Davebaxter1989 · 1 year ago
Ah that's why I misunderstood because I personally think that James McAvoy looks more like a young Doohan than Pegg does so it would have been a mix of good casting and good accent - an accent that has many times been butchered as its hard to convincingly do so I don't actually care about political correctness.
  • Josh Radde · 1 year ago
I spoke with Pegg and he's been putting a lot of work into the role. He wants to be "Scotty," not James Doohan. I bet he'll be fine with the accent, too.
  • Cole Abaius · 1 year ago
I want to be James Doohan.
  • Rob Hunter · 1 year ago
@ Cole, work on the Scottish accent, gain some weight, cut off a finger, and die. That should about cover it.
  • D Train · 1 year ago
    Damn... Check out Bana.
  • Reg · 1 year ago
To David, who cares? You'll still watch it and thanks Josh.
  • Reg · 1 year ago
Layne, you're so funny "Star Trek: 90210" or “The OC: The Next Generation” or how bout "Gossip Girl: Uhura's dilemma why's one black chick in this freakin movie."
  • Davebaxter1989 · 1 year ago
    @ Reg

Actually my interest isn't very high on this mainly due to the Pegg factor but he's big in geek circles in America now so I suppose I better get used to him.
  • Tina · 1 year ago

This is the inherit problem with this project. JJ wants to make something that tributes Star Trek and still make it more modern or even futuristic. That is unfortunatley impossible considering TOS was made decades ago and their vision of the future was way different than ours. So here you have things like mini-skirts and colorful bridge plateaus and pajama uniforms which may have seemed very futuristic to the people of the 60s and 70s but to us or to me at least is just laughable. I say take the risk and completley re-vamp this story. I was excited by the teaser trailer because it looked like it was placing the story in our universe but judging from these pictures its the same universe as galaxy quest.

After the last two mediocre films("Insurrection" and "Nemesis")and equally mediocre series("Voyager" and "Enterprise"),this "re-boot" film looks very promising, for the photos are very impressive(with the ambitious new look for the Enterprise and its crew, and the cast looking comfortable[and quite fitting] as everyone's favorite old school sci-fi characters),and the low profile publicity that this upcoming film has had(so far)to build up some major curiosity and much-needed mystique to what J.J. Abrams has in store for mainstream audiences, the fans, and the Trekkies.

With Simon Pegg's wife being a Glaswegian, I'm pretty sure he'll have no issues at all with
the Scottish accent. I love Pegg in everything I've seen him in, but I still reckon Ford Kiernan
from Still Game might've been a more appropriate choice, however...
  • Davebaxter1989 · 1 year ago
My Girlfriend is from another area of Scotland and I can't even manage her accent. I'm sure to the casual watcher it will seem dead on but I'm suspicious. Now Greg Hemphill rather than Ford Kiernan was said to be in the running and that would have been rather hilarious.
  • Gray · 1 year ago
Ah, I knew it was one of the Still Game crew, but I couldn't remember which. I just thought
of Monsieur Kiernan due to his physical similarities to Scotty of old.
The Glaswegian accent's probably the easiest Scottish accent to reproduce. The Eastern and
Northern variations are somewhat more complex, not to mention much more fun to listen
    to. :-)

This kind of looks like it's going to Dawson's Creek meets Varsity Blues in Space. It's a shame they couldn't get Vander Face.

Hes Alive Jim! Well actor Tibor Csaky who is a spitting image (100%) of Kirk or (William Shatner) will never get the job cause Hollywood has it head in its rear end and does everything humanly possible backwards!

Well I'm not sure what bridge that third photo represents, but the whole thing with Spock Choking Kirk, might have something to do with the reson Nero is in this film. From what i've herd Nero is from the Future, and he's trying to mess with the past. Ive also herd that that last photo with kirk crawling out of the snow, is where he meets the Future Spock, that's what i've herd.
