This looks like The Transporter + Boondock Saints + Mediocre Acting. This new Punisher does nothing for me. And that line about "Get my hands on God." HOLY CRAP THAT IS TERRIBLE. Punisher long ago stopped blaming God and now blames only criminals.
Remember - This script was so bad Thomas Jane, a huge fan of the Punisher and comics (and presumably a fan of being paid lots of money) walked off. Looks fine for action, looks crap for Punisher fans. And I forgot to mention, his new turtleneck armor looks ridiculous.
And just BTW, Widowmaker is the worst, by far, of all the MAX storylines, so while I dont remember the line, it makes sense it would come from there.
I hear this is a movie with less storyline and more punishing going on, so I'm on board for that. I also like Ray Stevenson in the Rome series, and he can't be any worse than Jane.
Actually, since they decided to do a reboot the Punisher franchise as they did with Hulk, Thomas Jane was NOT offered the role Frank Castle.
The first Punisher movie was nothing like the comics. They pulled the plot straight out of their collective rear ends. It had its moments, but it was pretty silly. Low budget...check. Castle cries and drinks for half the movie...check. Subpar acting...check. Light on the violence...check. No police presence at all through all the explosions all over town...check. John Travolta...check. Stupid gags and jokes that didn't fit with the tone...check.
Now, for this one. Faithful to the comics...check. More action and violence...check. Darker tone...check. Better actors...check. Jigsaw...check.
the tenants of the building he lived in were in the comics. cheers to that.
No, they decided to reboot it after he left the production.

This movie has a lower budget than the last one, and if you've read Year One, Welcome Back, Frank, War Zone #1 etc... The movie had plenty of stuff from the comics. The depressed alcoholic aspect comes straight from Year One.
As for the violence I'll take a scene like Ben Foster getting tortured by Will Patton over a seeing a rubber head get caved in.

Thank you!
Tom didn't come close to looking or acting like the Punisher. The 04 Punisher film hardly had anything from Year One, Welcome Back, Frank and War Zone.
Another who fights my fight. Punisher 2004 was a SLAP IN THE FACE to Punisher fans. It's very simple: any who say otherwise are NOT Punisher fans. A to B to B to A.
I will go further. Dolph's interpretation of the Punisher as well as the movie itself was not only better than the 2004 fiasco, but TEN TIMES better. And that's not saying much.
I can WATCH Dolph's movie. I own it.
Can't watch Jane's. Gave it away. I GAVE IT AWAY. Do you understand what I'm saying to you? Bought the DVD for 3 bucks. THREE BUCKS! Gave it away.
Cuz NOT ONLY is the movie bad (which I could tolerate) but it INSULTED me (which I could not).
I don't delude myself that Stevenson's Punisher is gonna rocket up the Box Office but I know that this movie has got it RIGHT. Or close enough.
I'm sure I'll find faults in it. But I'm POSITIVE it won't insult me as Jane's Punisher did.
Peace.
What? I didn't know what Jane looked like before the movie came out???
He AIN'T Castle and he never will be. Why rush out to the movie to make sure.
You said it all: I'm a PUNISHER fan.
I don't know what that 2004 movie was but it wasn't The Punisher.
And look, I was right.
This movie looks like a supremely ridiculous, over-the-top, splatter-fest with automatic weapons sported by a BIG, bad-ass, mother-*er.
I can tell THAT from a mile away as well. Ain't gonna wait til it's 3 bucks.
Cool?
Peace
