Boiling Point: Twilight
trailer seems just like a showcase for really hot beautiful women and not so much story driven
I'll give it a shot, though.
rodriguez AND miller's movie, they co directed
And I agree with Robert, Samuel L. is played out as an action character.
And Sam Jackson looks even more ridiculous than he did in 'Jumper', which is saying something.
And the final nail in the coffin... Cole is really excited about it.
Orgy
Actually, it's Choke by Hybrid - kickass music choice regardless.
HUGE branch out...and she looks great, and sounds great....but I hope this doens't
bomb...she deserves only the best...
loved with the beautiful angles that inspired Citizen Kane, and all the charm of a classic
story teller from an era long ago. Why a stupid RED tie? This is not Spielberg's tacky
"Schindler's List" that needed the cheeseball red element, not trusting the beauty of B&W to
tell the story.
If anything it should be BLUE, not RED..... Sad.
i hope we're pleasantly surprised.
I belive... the movie will not be a blockbuster... but will be fun... and don't expect "The Spirit reloaded"
And its a movie... not a comic book... is good to have something new and diferent... Afterall... to be the same as the comics... why shoot the movîe????
The red tie... huahuahauauhuhauhauh Umbeliveble... big mistake.
The song is great!!!
That means she can't be pretty? It's not like the guy is ever even likely to lay eyes on Sarah Paulson in the flesh, anyway, who cares if she's a carpetmuncher.
the same guy you will get the same or similar look.
Also, as anyone who has ever read the Spirit knows, his tie is red. Take a moment to check.
Yup, red. Remember the scene in The Incredible s where the dad goes to dinner with his
mask on and a blue suit and a red tie? Spirit tribute. Spirit was all primary colors, like, and I
hate to say this, Dick Tracy.
I'm also really looking foward to Mezco's toy line. I saw a thing on G4 about it, looks great,
both Classic and Movie versions. All with red ties.
2. Of course it looks a bit like Sin City. It's Frank Miller. But even from the trailer, you can tell there's a lot of fantastical, vividly-colored segments.
3. Believing Sin City is a masterpiece but not wanting another film like it baffles me.
4. If you're going to complain about the red tie, you should take it up with Will Eisner. Since he dressed The Spirit in a red tie. You know, in the original comics.
5. Yes, Sarah Paulson - totally gorgeous.
6. Really gorgeous.
Waiting for an answer..
The Spirit, but will now try to avoid it.
Makes me sad to think how closely Eisner watched over his creation, only to have this happen to it once he died...
How's this for a 'bake your noodle' comparison - the last show I remember that relied on "we have beautiful women, so watch us" was . . . .BAYWATCH.
This isn't Will Eisner's Spirit character in the least.
Miller was swearing up & down the character would be there, but it isn't
In the book Eisner/Miller: A Conversation, Miller seems to get Eisner & does respect him, but then to see this, is just a large FU to Eisner.
The old TV movie with Sam Jones was 10X better than this.
I completely understand you can't make a direct copy of a comic to film, because it doesn't work on a mass audience scale, but to make it so far from the character isn't any better.
But, I will wait for the film and I will be there opening day...it is a trailer. Not sure if in fact Frank Miller had anything to do with it. If it was shot just for the trailer itself or the scenes showcased in fact in the movie itself...if that is the case, then I would be worried.
As long as Uncle Will would be happy, that's all that matters to me...he did give his blessing on this project, well at least thats what been promoted by Frank Miller...
Lets hope (I did love the first teaser...so who knows)
1/1,000,000 to 1/10,000,000.
pretty irrelevant.
"You're a big fan?" I asked.
They said yes.
"What's the Spirit's name?" I asked.
Uhm.... they replied.
"Where is his hideout?" I asked.
Blank stare.
"What kind of vehicle does he drive?" I questioned further.
"Hey" he yelled "I know all that stuff, I just can't remember it, what do you care...freak".
And then he stormed off.
If you want to see a bad version of The Spirit, check out the 1987 version with Sam Jones.
Eisner, who wrote about 2/3 of the Spirit stories, clearly said that he wanted Miller to do the film. It is an actual condition of the film being made. He approved much of the story and the story boards (drawn by Miller). So for anyone to say "Eisner will roll over in his grave" is being a bit of a boob. This is what Eisner wanted. It may not be what we want, but its what he wanted and what he approved.
Re The Spirit's black suit and red tie:
1) The Spirit's tie is always red. Check your sources, poser.
2) Yes, I kind of wish the suit was blue but I also wonder how cartoony a bright blue suit would be. Remember, to be true to the comic we're not talking a tastefull navy blue suit, we're talking Miami Vice / Dick Tracy blue. Hey, if Batman's costume can change colors, I'm willing to give it a try for the Spirit.
Lastly, I really can't judge a film on an unauthorized trailer. It made me interested and that is what a trailer is supposed to do.
I highly suspect we'll see many trailers for this, some cut to highlight action, others to highlight the babes.
I'm a fan of both.
One more thing, Mezco makes kick a** toys and I'm dying to see what they do with The Spirit. From what I saw at NYCC its gonna be great. Looking foward to SDCC. Look for me in a red tie.
Exactly. Most outraged "superfans" are probably faking it. Although, if I was The Spirit, I would never tell people my real name. Seriously. Denny? Ugh, always hated that name.
Also, this trailer rules so much. If you aren't down with Nazi Samuel L., I'm not down with you.
Plus, I've always wanted a woman who wanted me to shut up and bleed.
Frank Miller is going to do Eisner and the fans proud.
shut the f*ck up, you delirious windbag. go get laid instead of hanging out at comic book conventions.
exactly, a loser like you who can't spell 'shtup' and sits around writing haikus about felines could never nail a lesbian like sarah paulson. so your chances are zero, not 1/10,000,000.
do you also speak in a nasally, snobby tone like the "comic book guy" from the simpsons? because that is what i'm totally picturing. dudes like you make me chuckle. get a life, bro. your nerd panties are all in a bunch.
from anyone else?
I like with CGI backdrop films like this one
the hyper- stylization looks awesome
BTW it might be a early render of the movie so don't loose any sleep over it
also its Miller's movie let him do what he wants with it
ll watch this, the music to the trailer kicks ass.
But the dilemma is- when Frank Miller was the one behind Sin City, how can it be a ripoff of his own work?
What type of car does the Spirit drive?
Oh right, he usually doesn't drive. It's usually dones by his sidekick Ebony White, who won't be in the film.
Yes, Ebony, can been seen as racist when you look back at the old Eisner books, but Darwyne Cooke had no difficulty updating Ebony for the Spirit revamp.
Why can't Miller?
Because he's not that strong of a writer.
(Also, I know the Spirit used to drive around in a Batmobile type car)
My favorite thing you said was "clearly said that he wanted Miller to do the film. It is an actual condition of the film being made. He approved much of the story and the story boards (drawn by Miller). So for anyone to say “Eisner will roll over in his grave†is being a bit of a boob. This is what Eisner wanted. It may not be what we want, but its what he wanted and what he approved."
It was kind of hard for Eisner to see anything Miller was planning on doing seeing how he died Jan 3, 2005, & Miller didn't start the project until 2006.
Did Miller use a time machine to show the storyboards?
Please show us where this tibit of news comes from.
As for the TV movie, not only did Eisner give his blessing, but he also provided 3 new drawings for the opening sequence. Doesn't seem like Eisner had a problem with it. And at least he was invovled in the creative process for that one.
You may want to get your facts straight.
He loves to obsess about them.
He's been using them in his own storytelling since Dark Knight returns.
Eisner, being Jewish & fully embrassing that heritage, wouldn't appreciate it.
seem to fit together very nice.
haha @ 1:44 looks retarded
volumes of Spirit stories).
Re Ebony, I gotta say I'm confused by how old he is supposed to be. In some stories he
seems like a young pre-teen boy, in others he is a full grown (although short and slight)
man, or at least all the characters treat him that way.
I have to go recheck my Miller/ Eisner book but I think they actually talk about working on
the movie in that, and the book was several years ago (and while Eisner was alive).
Zion. I'm guessing that as long as the Nazi's are bad guys, he wouldn't mind them in The
Spirit.

Actually, I can recall two specific instances of The Spirit actually fighting Nazis in The Spirit
comics.
Prehaps some people merely feel this lacks respect for the work of a great man whether familiar with his character or not.
Frank Millers vanity and arrogance handling this project is enough to make many angry, afterall we are certainly not getting The Spirit movie, but a Sin City lite pisstake.
With all do respect, you are making fun of people for hanging out at comic book conventions and being NERDS for following this stuff, but who is the one on the boards in the middle of the afternoon (job, school, life?) individually targeting these so-called "nerds" for having an actual intellectual opinion on this stuff.
It is my JOB to see what all of you people are saying about this stuff and people like you make me angry when I see your bullshit posts everyday. Go out. Get a hobby of your own. Maybe even get LAID yourself. Because I don't think that the people here need YOUR advice on how to "get a life"...when you sir, do not have one yourself.
You really can't put the Protocals of the Elders of Zion in the same classification as the Spirit.
Protocals is a historial acount of what happened, where the Spirit is just stories.
I see your point, but Eisner himself in the Spirit stories avoided the entire Nazi premiss.
Even in the famed & last Outer Space Spirit, in one of the "Last Man", where the Spirit & co find previous life on the moon, the ficitional dictator was originally supposed to be Hilter, but Eisner decided against it.
Quality Comics, where he created Blackhawk, with its multinational team of Nazi-fighting
fliers, as well as Uncle Sam, about a super-hero who was the personification of the United
States and fought many a Nazi.
I didn't know that about LAST MAN, that is an interesting nugget.
For Eisner, it was the times. That's what was going on in the world.
For Miller, it shock value for shock value. Nothing more. It's overused on his part.
Too me, and I know I'm reaching, it seems like a giant slap in the face to Eisner.
Heck, if you want to reach even further, you could call Miller an anti-Semite for agreeing to have his showing of the teaser trailer & conference at NYCC, after sundown on the first night of Passover. But that's really stretching things.
The backstory about Last Man was in the first reprint of Outer Space Spirit, from Kitchen Sink Comics in 1982.
If you can find it, I highly recommend that printing.
The story is great & damn shame Wally Wood couldn't finish the storyline, but the backstory is so interesting too.
re NYCC, I have issues with the whole show. The ending times changed frequently and
without notice, causing many panels to run past the close of the show. It's better than it
was the first year but still has a way to go. Moving it to Feb for 2009 is insane. I can't
imagine any toy companies will show up since they will all be focused on Toy Fair which
happens the following weekend.
Also, Feb weather in Ny can be really bad. Not fun for the out of town people.
I hear you on the bad weather for NYC
Froze my butt off the first 2 years because the Javitz Center wouldn't let anyone wait inside with the warmth.
I can't believe there were people who actually camped outside in sleeping bags.
I also get Press Releases from the toy companies, & you're right about it being a week before Toy Fair.
None of them are planning to bring their "A" game to NYCC.
We'll end up seeing the same stuff they show after SDCC with announcements to wait until after Toy Fair.
Just really stupid on NYCC part.
The music is Hybrid - Choke

why don't we all chill out. Maybe it'll be good, maybe not. Why are people getting their panties in a wad about it?
Marketing 101.
And for some of us, it looks crappy.
Die hard fan or not, these comic movies aren't for the die hard fan, they are for the mass audience.
Unfornatually this over-used look is what the general audience seems to like.
What is bothering a lot of fans of the characters is, this isn't the character.
There is no essence there.
Miller has taken the Spirit & made him his own.
If that's the case, then Will Eisner's name should be removed from the project, just like Alan Moore removes his name.
I don't know about Sam Jackson, don't really have a preference... he's in a lot of movies that I like so I'm not going to bash him either. To each his own. But keep in mind this is a movie, not a comic book... and while I love comic books just as much as I do movies, everybody is going to have their own adaptation when they change something from print to the big screen.
If anybody happens to know the song that's playing on the trailer though, I'd love to find that out. Take care all...
As for Miller being a talented writer, with Sin City I will agree it was written extremely well, but when you look at something like All-Star Batman & Robin, if it wasn't for Jim Lee's art on the book, it would bomb. The pacing, story, & dialogue are horrible.
He has said that he would be stripping the spirit down to its core, so basically names and apearances I guesse. For me this film could really either way, but I'll probably see it. What else is ther in November Twilite and Punisher 2?
I live in the NYC are.
Ticket prices are extremely high there
I also saw the blog & still think his changes we not necessary.
WOW! How horrible these character look.
Sam Jackson looks more like Superfly than the Octopus.
Thanks for screwing up a classic Frank.

I'm sick of Miller's samurai fetish. He had it in Daredevil and he still can't get over it. Samuel L. Jackson has been doing the same character since Pulp Fiction. I'm still willing to give the film a chance despite 300 and the Persian lobster men. Meaning I will go and see it no matter what, since it is the Spirit. I don't mind the look, I do mind if he's changed the dynamic of the characters but I'm going to have to wait and see about that part.

poser(s) like you must get paid something to quasi-swarm the internet media pages with
your junk. Or do they just promise you life.
Chandler was great, the original. But his books read like like real life. Miller reminds me sometimes of James Ellroy. I heard him speak once at a noir film fest, spouting off "lingo" like, you know, the "real deal". Lotta telling, not enough showing.
Don't get me wrong, this movie might be cool. But it's NOT the Spirit. At all. That's a totally different movie, for some other, alternate reality. In this one, it's, yes, I'll say it again...Sin City 2: The Spirit

Miller pontificated early on in the production of The Spirit about remaining true to the integrity of Eisner's character and integrity. He even said he was storyboarding by cutting out panels from old Spirit stories. This doesn't look like or sound like Eisner's Spirit.
"I'm going to kill you all kinds of dead." I don't recall this kind of dialogue from any of the Spirit sections I ever read, and I believe I've read pretty much all of them. It looks like Miller's big ego trumps Eisner's vision for the character in this movie.
I was extremely excited when I heard about this production and Miller's involvement in it.
Based on what I've seen so far I'm preparing to be extremely disappointed.
