I must admit, I'm probably going to rush this film when it's released. Cruise can sport that eye-patch, lemme tell ya.

The logic behind the lack of German-accented English is painstakingly obvious and I'm glad someone brought it up. You want to be historically accurate, pull a Mel Gibson and English-sub the entire production. I'm just going to imagine that the characters ARE speaking German, but I can understand the language - at least to the extent of the words they are speaking and in their specific context. It really shouldn't distract from the movie itself.

I will go to see it myself. While I am not a big fan of Tom Cruise I am a major history buff and this is a part of WWII that has not been covered to this extent. Hoepfully they will get the facts straight and not butcher the characters personalities too badly.

This film looks like it could be entertaining. I don't really understand all the bashing its getting....but as for the accents, I agree with the "they would be speaking German" argument. Now, disagree all you will, but I am a fan of Marie Antoinette and I think the strongest aspect is the lack of accents. It actually brought the characters closer to the viewer. When there's an accent it creates distance, but by making them talk like us I was able to put myself in their shoes. I thought that was the whole genius of what Sofia Coppola did. Whether or not Valkyrie will do this...I don't know...but if done right I think it can be very effective at creating a bond with the characters instead of creating distance.

Just think of Hunt For Red October... same thing.

People who complain about the accents or non-German are just looking for something to complain about because they hate something else about the movie, like Tom Cruise or Bryan Singer. I love Tom Cruise, don't care for Singer, but think the movie is looking pretty tight so far.

I can't believe ppl are going into this rooting for nazis ?
(Many saw Evil , they Dared to stop it.)
    Oooooh. Aaaaaahhhhhh,,, how fucking heroic.
All these pussys carry Lugers,,, hey Valkyrie, wak right into Hitlers office, and blow his fucking brains out, and then do yourself. (That's a Nazi Hero!!!)

Nothings really historically acurate here, its BASED on a true story.
Cruise looks like he's auditioning for the role of Snake Plisken.

the movie and the story is good ....but I am very disapointed that tom cruze dose not have a German accent. It not sure who to blame for that ethier tom himself or Byan Singer . also Not all the soldiers where evil S.O.B 'S many where foced to fight . Im not trying to defend them , yes there where a lot of monsters in the german army. Mainly the guy's at the top, and the S.S , and expeally in the contiontraiton camp where true montsters .

Without the accents, which I think it needs for this kind of period action/war movie, this trailer looks like:

Mission Impossible 4: The Valkyrie Chapter

    Including the explosive device...

Looks like Tom Cruise playing Tom Cruise in a german uniform. I'd have preferred real german with subtitles.

Two words. Schindler's List. They were able to work the accents in there...the fact that they tried the accents and it was "distracting", to use a quote from Tom himself, just points out how limited of an actor he is. Maybe, and this is a big maybe, I will get this on blu-ray when it comes out. As for in the movies, I will be seeing The Curious Case of Benjamin Button that week and I suggest you do the same.

I'm going to see this movie, regardless of not being a Tom Cruise fan (I even enjoyed his movie "A Few Good Men"). As far as the lack of German accents, that's no problem --- this movie needs to be a historical thriller, not something that sounds like actors attempting to produce Hogan's Heroes accents.

I just saw the movie, and the lack of german accents was really distracting for me. I think it was especially noticeable given the historical setting of WWII, only because Germans, Americans, British, French, Italians, etc, were all involved. It's confusing to determine who is part of the Axis and who is an Ally. The whole issue is complicated by Kenneth Branagh, who is also supposed to be a German soldier, as he maintains his own English accent, while Cruise does nothing to disguise his American one. These guys are top actors, and they cannot perform a German accent? Come on.
