Film School Rejects: Multiple Choice Review: Doubt

The movie was good. Hoffman didn't give it away because he really believed that Fynn was innocent but even if he was guilty, no priest ever came out and outright admitted to molesting a child.

The reaction of Donald Miller 's friend (the one that was sent to the principal's office) when he saw Donald Miller's mother in the principal office was a clue. He was downright hostile to the priest and even to his teacher in defence of Donald Miller. He knew something that no one else did. Pity no one thought to question him.

Father Flynn record was another clue and his explainations didn't ring true to me. When you consider that most of these post sixties allegations turned out to be true, which the church covered up by sending the priest to another parish, (3 in 5 years for father Flynn) you might be surprised at how many mothers who watched doubt actually do admire the nun for daring to take on her superior in defence of an innocent child. Erring on the side of caution couldn't hurt the child.

Roxanne, great point about Donald's friend. I remember that, but I had read something else into that, entirely. I really think that Streep NAILED it. An Oscar would be deserved if she got it.
