Three movies have left me speechless after seeing in the theatre. Saving Private Ryan, The Dark Knight and Big Fish. Completely amazing film making. Tim Burton told this story so well, characters you laughed and cried with, a theme we all could relate that existed in the fantastic world of Edward Bloom. This film stayed with me, I still take away themes and remember them in my life. This is what film is all about.

I remember not being bored by watching this and i almost passed it up in the video store due to its title. But my wife being the one to grab random stuff off the shelves we watched it and it was actually good.
On the flip side to that I had to sit through Awake which was just another Jessica Alba cash in.

I love the ovelooked bipolar reference in the film with Dannny Devito as the circus manager/werewolf. Teaching people not to judge others with psycholgical disorders. He is genuenly a good person with a problem that most people can't understand. Beutifully demonstrated by the obviously manic Burton!!!

I've seen this movie 10ish times and cried everytime. I absolutely love it and completely agree with the way you've summed it up. Although I don't neccesarily think it's so light. Well, it's light in a way most "Oscary" type movies aren't, but it deals with heavy issues such as: Fatherhood, Stories, and story tellers. Also we could argue about the best quotes from the movie forever, but I love the last one about Jokes.

"Have you ever heard a joke so many times you've forgotten why it's funny? And you heard it again and suddenly it's new. You remember why do you love it in the first place. That was my father's final joke, I guess. A man tells his stories so many times that he becomes the stories. They live on after him. And in that way he becomes immortal."

    Great Work! Thanks,

    Matt

Edit: I forgot to add something. It's really interesting that you brought up Billy Crudup's work for Mastercard. I knew and loved Billy Crudup in Without Limits, Jesus' Son and Almost famous, not to mention his work on Broadway. I found out after this that it was his voice in MasterCard which I found slightly bewildering because at the same time he was turning down similar "sell-out" roles in hollywood. Obviously something changed as he played Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen.

This is a random note, but if you ever have a chance to see Crudup on Broadway I highly HIGHLY reccomend it. His performance in Elephant Man was the most amazing acting I have ever seen his muscle control is flat out insane. Also he was amazing in Pillow Man. Just amazing. -- My inability to quantify is why I don't write about movies.
