Boiling Point: Twilight
Thanks for the compliments regarding our site. We pride ourself on verifying our content to provide the fans with accurate, professionally obtained, information that is focused on Stephenie and the upcoming movies and books.
FYI, the official industry name for all things Twilight (3 published books and counting) is The Twilight Saga. A lot of the time people just shorten it to Twilight.
Thanks again, and we're looking forward to great coverage from your site.
Laura
AKA Pel from the Twilight Lexicon.
Stock up on coke to help keep you awake. And store up muchies so you don't have to drive to the store, reading while driving is dangerous.
Do not be alarmed when you being to walk around on cloud covered rainy days imagining you were in Forks. Its all apart of the experience.
Check out Stephenie's play lists, they add to the experience.
Happy reading Michelle!
As for your first time reading the books, a few tips:
1.Make sure you have ALL 3 right at your finger tips, don't buy one then expect to just pop over the bookstore and get the next one. Better to have them all as to flow easily through them :o)
2. Be prepared to smile, laugh, cry, hurt, think differently about love & especially to want to smack & hug someone all at the same time (i.e. Jacob-New Moon)
3. Make sure your children, husband, partner, lover, whomever else lives with you or around you is prepared to not see or speak to you until the books are finished (that is, if as we all predict, you love them on first read, you won't put them down to cook, clean, or even function until they are finished)
4. Make sure YOU eat before you begin reading - see note above.
Last but not least: Welcome to the club. We are an exciting, expressive group of people from all walks of earth & it is a pleasure to know that there is someone else who is entering the mania!
What impresses me most is the effort made by sites like TwilightMoms and TwilightLexicon as well as others I'm sure (I wouldn't know, I have my day full with just TMs posts!) to only post things that are obtained legally/approved by Summit.
I'm excited to hear you'll be reading the books! Take Courtneys advice above... and be prepared to fall in love with Twilight!
1. Don't read it expecting a literary masterpiece or some poetic prose. You'll be disappointed. They weren't written to be life-alteringly amazing; they're meant to be read for fun only.
2. Make sure you have lots of time on your hands. It's a hard book to put down.
3. Don't stop at the first book. Keep reading religiously until you finish the third book. Then you'll understand why we're so fanatically obsessed.
Lastly, cheers for all the Twilight coverage. The Twilight fanbase appreciates it :D
not start reading while you're at work. You will not get anything accomplished. At all.
Also, make sure your husbands/kids are fed and that you also take breaks to replenish
fluids, take bathroom breaks, and shower. Otherwise you might start to smell. If you
start thinking (after you've finished the series) that every single incredibly beautiful
person you see is a vampire, it's normal, at least I think it is.
I would also say to go into the books with an open mind, imagine your own people as the
characters, not the people who have been officially cast. I first read Twilight without ever
getting on Stephenie's website, so I had my own views of who the characters were and
what they looked and talked like. When I read Twilight there were only four reviews on
Amazon about it (now over four-hundred!) and I consider myself very lucky to have read
the book so early on and now I've been there throughout it all.
Also, don't be surprised if you're in a sort of fog after you've finished the first book. I
was. Every time I would hear or see the name "Edward" my heart would start pounding
and I'd feel jittery inside. Twilight was the first book that I finished and picked right back
up again, I couldn't get enough of it, I read it twice in one week and anxiously awaited
the sequel (which came out a year later). Twilight has changed my life completely, and I
assure you, it will change yours, too.
My first thought when I read the last line on the last page of the first book was, "Wow."
(depending on age) and know that the Twilight fans all over the world will be there for you!!!
OH! And when you are done, hope on the internet and go right to StephenieMeyer.com and read all her out takes to make sure you have read it ALL!
Keep a few Kleenex's nearby
Try reading it slow, to make sure you dint miss ANYTHING! at all
Have New Moon and Eclipse ready to start, you will not want to put the books down
& Thanks for the article!
Have fun reading! I walked into the Twilight world because the librarian at the school where I teach told me it was a great/fun read and that I would really enjoy it. I took the book home to be nice. Started reading it at about 8 pm and made myself put it down at 2 am! Had all three books read in a week and then went into withdrawal! I really like what I've seen about the movie thus far and am confident that it will be successful.
Although, sometimes the words 'it', 'they', or 'love' work too, depending on who you're talking to and whether or not they'll know what it is you're talking about.
I have some tips for you for reading the saga:
1) BUY ALL THE BOOKS AT THE SAME TIME. Life sucks in that little time between the books while you can't get to a bookstore for some reason or other.
2) Make sure you have leftovers or some sort of food you can heat up. Cooking is precious reading time lost.
3) Make sure you have TIME to read the books before you start. A Friday afternoon would be a good time to first open the book.
4) As much as we fans have probably put the idea in your head that these books are amazing and all, try not to assume they will be the best books you've ever read.
5) PLEASE do not see the people cast as the characters. Form some sort of picture without being biased by the cast. Try to get your Emmett to have curly hair, and your Alice to be unnaturally short.
6) Make sure you tell people not to interrupt you before picking up one of the books. If not, you may regret it.
7) Try to remember that eating/drinking/using the washroom/bathing are still necessary.
8) But most imporatantly, just read it. It's not the end of the world if you don't like the book.
But, for your own personal safety, maybe you should lie to us if you didn't like it.
Just an idea.
Have fun being swept off your feet by Edward!
2) Don't get the CD of the books, let your own mind develope the voices of the characters.
3) Get a CD of classical piano with DEBUSSY'S "Clair de lune".
4) Find the closest Volvo dealer, just in case!:)
SIT BACK AND E N J O Y !
There is a reason why we all reread so much. After having these characters in your brain for so long (sometimes days without end) however long it takes you to read the books, when your finished you may feel like someone or something is missing.
After the first time I read the book I returned it to the library on my lunch break only to go back and get it after work because I missed the characters. I had to read it again, took the next day off and went to the book store and bought New Moon.
Maybe my story is a little extreme :) but I loved it that much!
2. by a lock for your door so you won't be disterbed when reading
books readily available. Once you start the first, you'll want to continue right on through to
the last. Be prepared to read into the wee hours of the morning. It's awesome!! Just have
fun and enjoy this wonderful, wonderful story. There is nothing like it!
1. Personally, I like to tell everyone to read Twilight TWICE before venturing into New Moon. Seriously the second time around you pay so much more attention to Edward once you know the pace and sequence of the storyline. And really you should revel in the emotions of Twilight before you run head on into the emotions that encompass New Moon. Ditto before reading Eclipse. Read New Moon Twice, once you know what happens in the end you can enjoy the story in the middle so much more the second go around.
2. Take the day off work to read, don't try and read at night. Twilight all nighters make for a huge hangover the next day. Get lots of rest before hand, eat a good meal before you start and find a comfy cozy place to hang out for the next few days.
3. If you have kids, find a babysitter or better yet, send them all away for the weekend! I was able to read New Moon interruption free because I sent my family on vacation that weekend, but when Eclipse came out I had to be a Mom and that was very frustrating.
4. Get dressed before you pick up the series to start reading. I thought I could stay in my PJ's all day reading Eclipse but of course that was the day every door to door salesperson came to my house.
Remember you only get one chance at reading a good book for the first time!
1. Have someone else go to the bookstore to buy the sequels...otherwise you'll never leave the bookstore.
2. Keep an open mind on Jacob Black, a lot of people don't like him in Eclipse which takes away from enjoying the books. As for me, I'm almost stuck between Jacob and Edward as my favorite for Bella..but still Edward wins.
3. Don't imagine the actors from the movies as the characters from the books yet. You'll be stuck on some ideal. Create your characters from your imagination, it makes reading them so much more enjoyable. (Not that I have anything against the actors)
Enjoy!!!
buy the books- its easier when you want to quote from them- referance info for a fanfiction. also, you cant take library books to get signed- you could but it wouldnt be yours.
read midnight sun to understand more of edward *i really like his battle/eating plans*
1.) So, please make sure you have cleared your evenings or weekend of all disturbances and other activities. Pausing from your reading will only be possible under the most extreme circumstances, I assure you. I am speaking from personal experience--I read all 3 in 48 hours. I became snappy with my husband when he suggested I "do something else." LOL.
2.) Expect to fall for Edward after chapter 13 of Twilight. You'll see what I mean when you read it. Don't fight the inevitable.
3.) Do NOT tell your husband, etc. that Edward is as perfect as Bella thinks he is. Your significant other will not appreciate this and will be emasculated as a result.
4.) Be patient with Jacob Black, especially the Jacob of late New Moon. He's still a child in many ways, but he takes care of Bella for us--that's all that should matter.
5.) Read with a highlighter handy. Meyer has created some wonderfully memorable lines in all 3 novels, and you'll want to make a permanent record of where they are located in the text. You'll more than likely end up reciting them to yourself anyway.
6.) Make note of Meyer's use of references to classical love stories, obviously those by Austen, Bronte, and Shakespeare. The story, however, is much more than a modern take on an old tale. The Saga is littered with archetypal themes, a tragically flawed male protagonist reminiscent of Romeo, and a heroine with a silent strength that only Austen could create, but Meyer did. I'm an English teacher and young adult writer myself, and I appreciate the depth in her novels.
I hope this helps your experience!
Enjoy the journey!
Do you think my sister would mind me robbing her copies while she sleeps?
1.) DO NOT GO ON ANY FANSITE UNTIL YOU ARE FINISHED. *they may contain spoilers*
2.) Be prepared to spaz about the books. my friends and family thought that I was udderly insane, so I made them read it, and they fell in love with it!
3.) Lastly, join me and the Twilight Missionaries! We tell everyone about the books and how amazing they are!!!!
have fun!!!
<3
-to go to the bathroom first;
-to eat first (no time to cook);
-silence (no people around you, no phones, no tv...);
-a big pillow (to hug when you're crying or laughing or even to punch. You'll understand
later.)
-to be ready to smile, to cry, to scream, to feel anger, to be dazzled, to be scared, to be
anxious, to be nervous...
-paper bags (just in case of hyperventilation.)
-to remember that you're in the REAL world.
After reading the saga:
-you're gonna get crazy until August, 2
-when you'll see some specific cars or places or clothes, you'll automatically think about
Twilight;
-when it'll be raining or very sunny, you'll smile;
-when you'll hear the names like Edward, Isabella, Jacob and others you'll feel happy and
you'll breath faster;
-you'll believe in love at first sight...
-you'll probably check the Lexicon, the Twilight Moms and other sites every two seconds
-you'll think you're getting crazy (well, I don't call it "getting crazy", I think it's more
"becoming a twilighter"... but don't worry there are a lot of people JUST like you,
including me!)*
-you'll want to have a lot of time to go to the cinema on December, 12 (don't forget
paper bags... you know, the hiperventilation thing...)
-and last but not least, you're life you'll NEVER be the same (even if you don't like the
books...) It will be BETTER. In all the ways.
Some advices:
-please, read the books slowly to catch EVERY detail;
-don't read them just once;
-forget the actors faces and voices. The books are the books and the movie is the movie.
-and don't forget to JUST read them and ENJOY!
Welcome to the dark (but really exciting) side, darling! You've NO IDEA how much you're
life will be exciting from now on. You've NO IDEA what you're getting into. AT ALL.
*I'm not saying we, Twilighters, are crazy... we're just victims of an addiction. An awsome
addiction, btw.
H u g s _ f r o m _ P a r i s.
There's freakin' spoilers EVERYWHERE.
Good luck...
My recommendations...
Make sure you don't have anything much to do the next day. When I first read Twilight, I literally could not stop reading until I finished, which was rather late into the night. And then I had to go to school the next day! Not that fun.
Also, make sure you know a friend or someone you can talk to who has read the books. That was my other problem. I didn't personally know anyone else who had, and so I was stuck with amazing books that I NEEDED to talk about but couldn't!
Finally, once you finish, read them through again! The first time you read through so fast that you miss things. In fact, I still notice new things even after reading them...um...very large number...times! Stephenie is such an amazing writer that every little detail is enjoyable and significant, so make sure not to miss them!
And now, ENJOY!!!
Make sure you have enough time to read for several solid hours.
Also, make sure you've got plenty of tissues handy.
And if you find yourself reading late into the night, maybe find a spot where your shouting, laughing, crying out loud won't wake your husband/kids/etc.
Enjoy!
002) Make sure to warn friends, family, etc. that you're reading the books, because you will be overally happy, sad, depressed, estactic, etc. and if you don't warn them, they may think something is SERIOUSLY wrong with you. :)
003) When you're done reading 'Twilight' go to Steph's site and read the OUTTAKES (same for the other books) because it's not a fulfilling experience until you read EVERYTHING.
004) If you're obsessed with Edward after reading the books, and think of him as your boyfriend, don't worry...we all do it. xD
005) ENJOY the books. They are amazing, and I'm sure you'll LOVE them! <3
1. When reading Twilight in public, try to refrain from going "aww" if Edward says something sweet, or people will stare at you.
2. Try not to slip into "twilight talk" with your friends, because if you start going on about how you "love edward cullen so much," they'll want to know who it is. When you explain he's a fictional character they'll seem confused until you brainwash them to read it. Try to be patient with them.
3. In New Moon, don't hold back tears when it gets sad. Many fans have cried over this book (Myself included)
4. Do not judge Jacob Black. Everyone has their own opinion of him and they're entitled to it.
5. In Eclipse, try not to yell at the book if you get frustrated.
6. Don't let anyone borrow your copies of the book unless you don't want to see them again. Because if someone "borrows" it, they'll become addicted and try to steal it from you.
7. After reading the books, when you listen to music you'll relate every song you hear to the series. Don't worry, that's normal.
8. After finishing Twilight, if you don't own all three books you'll go insane until you find them. Like someone said earlier, buy all three at once. It will save you unnecessary suffering and anxiety.
9. You'll form a love/hate feeling towards Bella. You'll like her character, and yet be very jealous of her at the same time.
10. Enjoy the books, and try not to go completely crazy waiting for August 2nd.
and because the Lexicon told me to give it to you, here's my advice (*spoilers?*):
1. Be prepared to give up your entire social life while reading the books.
2. Also be prepared to not sleep at ALL - it's not the type of book that you read until 1am when you fall asleep... you don't fall asleep.
3. The "twilight talk" is definately a no-no, because your friends will think it's stupid because it about "vampires" and it's SO hard to explain that the Cullens aren't regular vampires!! Just tell them to read it. No explinations.
4. Before you hate Jacob too much (although I'm still totally team Edward), go to www.stepheniemeyer.com and extra story called "Being Jacob Black".
5. Go to www.stepheniemeyer.com and read ALL the extras/outtakes for ALL the books! :)
8. Ditto of Melanie - Enjoy & try not to go crazy waiting for 8.2.08 (or Dec. 2008!)
... and don't be embarassed of your obsession with Bella's life and your love for Edward... my husband has told me to "take a cold shower" a few times after I told him about different parts of the book, or movie clips :)
Welcome to the Twilight community!
1. the only thing better than Edward, is Edward + Chocolate. :)
Aside from the obvious reasons, the endorphines will have you giddy as a school girl. te-he-he I <3 EDWARD!
While reading the Twilight Series,
remember to continue to do the following::
drink (keep hydrated)
eat (don't starve)
pee (don't explode)
breathe (no hyperventilation)
:]]
That parenthetical bit is a joke, right? I couldn't tell from the tone but I'm quite sure there are more than two writers out there for this demographic who are popular and successful.
