Film School Rejects: Mike Myers to Explore Daddy Issues in Austin Powers 4

  • entertainmenttodayandbeyond · 1 year ago
People love piling on after a big name has a box-office bomb like "The Love Guru". I totally believe there would be high interest for a 4th Powers movie and Im confident that it will be good as Myers knows this world!.

I stopped caring about this franchise the moment the first film ended, so this one holds no interest to me. It'll probably make money, but right after it comes out, folks will be complaining about how the jokes were all ones they heard before from the other 3.

When will Mike Myers just give it up and realize he's not relevant whatsoever anymore. His comedies could not be anymore dated than they are right now. Do something different, switch it up a little. I guess you can't teach an old comedian new jokes.

If they made a Powers movie without Powers in it that would be a good first move. The character of Austin got so tired halfway through the 2nd film when people just wanted to watch Dr. Evil anyway.

People can hate all they want, i'll still see it.

I haven't seen the love guru yet, but i heard it wasn't that bad. When you go into a movie
like this don't expect Oscar material. Just go to have a good time.

People would embrace an AP4. Honestly, i got my first handjob in the theater at AP2.

I'd rather see Meyers return to something more...personal...for lack of a better term. Not that exploring his own father issues isn't personal, but the slapstick approach that AP uses isn't.

It would be awesome to see him play a real person for a change, like he did in So I Married an Axe Murderer. No crazy time travel, no ridiculous faux-Indian upbringing, just a normal funny guy dealing with an extraordinary situation.

Which, whoa, brings me to a deeper concern. I just realized that Meyers essentially switched his comedic method midstream, going from normal characters in extraordinary circumstances to wacky characters in normal circumstances. Both seem to have worked for him, but Christ in a handbag does he get annoying after a while doing the latter.

What a shock, Meyers has a big flop and then goes back to what he knows will make money. How creative!

First two Austin Powers movies were good. Third one was bad and now a fourth looks bad/desperate. Myers needs some new material.

I respect Mike Myers for what he did on SNL but let's be realistic. The guy has turned into a one trick pony. He has rehashed the "Fat Bastard" character a million times. Go back So I Married an Axe Murderer and the character he played as his father is the same as in AP2. Hell, he even asks Nancy Travis if she is "evillll" in Dr. Evil's voice.

Why not do a Wayne's World 3 at this point? Austin Powers 3 was awful, the Love Guru wasn't even worth seeing, and as it stands the shine has worn off of Meyers' career.

waynes world 3 would be cool but i doubt we would ever see it

And damn it, I read that misspell of Mike Myers' name so many times at the top that I did it. Grr. haha

The first film was the only good one out of the lot. When the second film came about, it just became way too over-the-top and goofy (not to mention rampant joke recycling).

Maybe if they could come up with some new material, hire some decent writers to steer the film in a better direction, then it could work.

Now that I've typed and read that last sentence, I realize that it'll never happen.

I think all of you have acted much to harshly in judging this movie.
I truly loved it and I have written several movie articles for my local newspaper The Cornish times. although the movie I must admit was not as snappy as Autin powers. I still find it to be better than Wains world which was so painfull to watch I nearly drilled my eyes out! in responce to Zilla's post I must say your comment on Mike Myres being non relevant was much too harsh as he is after all a fellow human being and none of us ever lose our shine but meerly misplace it even those of us who are resentful and spitful.
