Film School Rejects: Mark Millar Set to Pitch Superman’s ‘Magnum Opus’

I would love this. If he doesn't get this made into a movie, it would make an awesome comic book/animated movie.

Goddamnit, he's still trying to pitch this? Leave it alone Mark Millar, it's not good.

Eh...the Sun will never go supernova. Once it becomes a red giant, Superman will turn into a regular dude and die of something silly, like starvation.

Umm, i wasn't aware Return of the Jedi came out in 1998

    Just. Shhh... hush child.
    Adults are speaking.

    Wow, this sounds absolutely awesome.

David Fincher perhaps for director? Edward Norton as one of the lead roles.

    @Wait, what?

Yeah, but isn't there something intrinsically sad about being human at the end of time? All alone, and without god-like power. Superman has always been alone, the last of his kind, but what Millar proposes would be even more depressing (in a good way).

The sun won't go supernova by natural means, but come on, this is a Superman story. Throw in a villain that could threaten both Earth and the Sun, and you could have your red planet in 2 hours' time.
  • Wait, What? · 1 year ago
@J: That's why I'd prefer he died from something silly. If the Sun became a supernova, then Superman is going out with a bang. That's hardly sad. I wouldn't mind being around long enough to see part of a supernova before I die. If he killed himself out of sheer hopelessness and depression, after having had been the Man of Tomorrow and a living god, you'd start pulling at heartstrings.

I could barely sit through Superman Returns, and they want to do a three movie LOTR style epic?

    Leave it alone.

I love this idea. A lot. A good vision goes a long way.

I personally think that Superman is the greatest superhero of all time. I thought Superman Return was weak an a disgrace to the late great Christopher Reeve and his works as Superman. Ever since the comics been transforming into movies I've been waiting on Superman and when it finally hit he theaters I was disappointed. Superman needs the same attention and money behind it as the Dark Knight movies. If not more. Mark Millar's idea is genius. MAKE IT HAPPEN CAPTAIN!

    JMoney,
I think he is saying Superman Returns is the equivalent of what would have happened if Return of the Jedi came out in 1998.

A lot of people couldn't sit through Batman & Robin. Seems like the Batman franchise is doing okay now. A new vision is a good thing and may be just what Superman needs right now.

wow. i really hope this comes through

I want this to happen, and I want Brandon Routh the be Superman. he was fantastic on Singers. he worked the role as a character study. I don't see a problem casting the same actor to play the same character in a new superman franchise. it might be a little confusing for 1 second but then people will realize they aren't retarded and be able to figure out what's going on.

This is such an incredible idea.A true epic story of the most important superhero of all time. And to portray the drama of his life, to have all these powers but still be ''cursed'' to end up alone at the end of his life (after outliving all that he cared about),this modern ''tragedy'' Godfafther style sounds brilliant. It even relates to what his mother said on Krypton in the first film (He will be isolated, alone). It just shows that in life there is a price to pay for everything and for everyone(even a superhero).Absolutely brilliant!
